Over there, over there, Send the word, send the word over there - That the Yanks are coming, The Yanks are coming, The drums rum-tumming Ev'rywhere. So prepare, say a pray'r, Send the word, send the word to beware. We'll be over, we're coming over, And we won't come back till it's over Over there.
There is sound film footage of him singing it as well as the "Carousel of American Music" available at Amazon that has him singing it at a live event in San Francisco in 1940.
Industrial legend has it that Christie's designs embodied most of the advances that later made the T-34 such a superior machine, but Soviets engineers vastly improved everything." Also, Russians are notorious for stealing technology from enemies and allies such as the Rolls-Royce engine for planes. Without the help of US steel manufacturing methods the Russians probably wouldn't have been able to make their great tanks like the T-34.
Russians hardly did shit in WW1 and the only war that they eventually kicked some ass in was WW2 after they got their ass kicked hard by the Germans. The Russians also relied on USA technology/people to help manufacture some of their great weapons such as the T-34. "The origins of the T-34 stretched back to the early 1930s, when Red Army planners supported a prototype tank designed by the American J. Walter Christie, its innovative suspension siring a series of Soviet BTs, or "Fast Tanks."
In WW1 Russia put 240 divisions in the field, as many as Germany did. Compare that to France 140 and UK 75 (US only 40) and you can see that without those men in the East threatening to overrun Prussia and causing all sorts of problems for Austria, Germany would have had the men to win the war in the West. OK, they were terribly led and were badly beaten but they kept enough Germans away from France and Austrians away from Italy to save the Entente's skin until the Yanks decide to show up-late.
Russians may have kicked some ass later on during WW2 but they barely have done shit in any other war. They got their ass handed to them during the Russo-Japanese War. Care to bring up any other wars the Russia actually did something in?
Yea near the end of ww1 they got busy in their own internal stuff. But in ww2 the difference between the eastern and western front was over tenfold. I cannot find the data now, but i remember that germany had like 300 armor divisions in the east, and like 10 in the west. And Berlin was taken from the east.
Even though I detest what America has become in terms of greed and stupidity (ie Madoff, Glen Beck, Pelosi) I couldn't leave my nation even if I wanted to. I love it too much. What would I do fight for a maple leaf flag. Never! Canada's great and wonderful, but I was just born with too much red, white, and blue.
Anti-war protests, when done on religious and moral grounds outside of anti-American communist and anarchist influences, have to be cautious in their approach towards everyone and everything. They can hurt all Americans (especially those serving), and they can self-destruct and make wars worse and longer. Remember the very strong protests before WW2, and how the protestors became demonized as Nazi pawns when the links between them & Germany became obvious after the Japanese attack on Pearl.
Fine song by a true pro.....It's a pity we don't have such influences telling our kids not to go and kill someone elses kids....or be killed themselves.....
Follow the trail of video responses back and you'll find the video called "WW1 Songs Pro & Con sung by Ann Gibson" -- the second of which is an anti-war song from the period.
Thanks for that lead .....they're wonderful performances!!!......And it's a crying shame, generally , they didn't invalidate my point - a great pity..........though there are some great anti war songs they're never delivered with that kind of urgenct ...and they should be I feel . Ann and co are great though.....why haven't I heard of them I wonder
Ragtime performers tend only to be promoted within ragtime circles. There are many people who enjoy the music (and more who would if they heard it) but are unaware of what's out there simply from lack of promotion. This is why so many performers enjoy having some of their performances here on YouTube where people who might not otherwise have known about them -- or even that there is a ragtime scene -- can discover them.
Ann is fabulous. Keep in mind this is at the end of a one-hour set of energetic performances, for the first half of which she had an army uniform over that frock. She must have been exhausted by this time, but one can barely tell.
Bravo! Thanks for posting - excellent!

It sounds like Broadway. Not a war song. If i was an enemy, i would say: "They are coming over here... but will they brink cake?"
If you want to hear what a real military song sounds like:

Yupp. They also won the war in Vietnam and brought democracy liberty and justice to Iraq.
You have to admit, the Russians kicked a lot more ass in the great wars than USA.
