I love OTIS but it get's so old so .....I hate! The point is I give up on her! I carry my heart to heaven! Fuck it! She can not make me hate! I am good! I carry my heart home!
Otis had a Voice that made you right with God!!!! I don't care what he sang, it was "Chu'ch" all up in it!!! Heaven must sound like this…. Sing In Peace Otis Redding ;o)
When Otis Redding died in an airplane crash he was organizing a lot of singers who were unhappy with the existing record companies taking large profits from their songs. Otis was planning to start a record company to give performers a better deal. Then the big crash killing him and all the members of the Barkays except one. Coincidence?
6Hills..this is some of the best audio and video on "Otis" that I've ever heard or seen..please continue to publish more of these great oldies...thanks a bunch....:)
I heard this song on NCIS tonight. It made me stop and listen, not watch. Otis didnt sing he flowed the music, the lyrics, the meaning on the song. They dont make them like that anymore.
Thanks to music like this( for me anyway) there are dreams to remember because music is like a time machine and you can revisit good times, family that has gone on. Songs just like smells and taste take you back in times where dreams live forever.
I'm 26 and one of not many young people who appreciate true soul music... Brings me back to when my father would throw this record on and I would break down as if I was Otis himself singing. Otis didn't share his music with the world... he shared his soul.
I remember the tenant in our basement used to play this song every Sunday morning.I have been listening to Otis since I was five that's almost forty years now and I still love him. Timeless music.
This mans music transcends time. I was born many years after his death, but am a fan. The words of his songs are so incredibly heartfelt and ...you just don't forget them. Thanks for sharing.
This was the saddest song I heard from Otis Redding...I know I'm young but I can relate to this song, I been listening to soul since I was 10 years old. I'm 20 and soul music is still the best thing that a young person can listen to. Otis Redding you are a wonderful writer and musician...wish you was still here.
@bigfish173417 It is...He's another inspiration of me writing music. I had a downfall last year, I'm really trying to pick up the pieces to my music. But it's like no matter what I write it's not getting no better. I hate giving this up, because I been writing music since I was 12. Gotten alot better growing up, all I wanna do is just make more good music for the world. Meaning lyrics a song that can touch you..Trust me, music is my life that's all i wanna do man...
How sad. My parents were inlove with Otis Redding when I was a child and cried the day that he died in that plane crash. Now that I am all grown up and can listen and understand the words behind the music the fact that he's dead is making me mourn him each and everyday. I just don't understand why things like this happen to good people. There are no answers to why god took him so soon. Then you see people like Charles Manson and say "What The Hell"? I love you Otis. This is just not fair.
Why do people hate when other people cover good music the on;y reasonI even looked up this song is because of John Mayer. He did it justice of course now that I heard this version I think of JM's version differntly I never understood what dreams had to do with Gravity but now it make sense of course he has nothing on Otis but it is still good.
The ultimate way to bow out gracefully - when all you can think is "fuck you, bitch", Otis steps in and makes you the man...Hope you hear this, Ginny. LOL
this song just made me a better man. good lookin out O....this mans dna is living through his songs. i could only imagine what u could learn from speakin to this man face to face.
@HarsonFive5 TOTALLY AGREE.THAT FANTASTIC VOICE OF OTI'S & THAT FANTASTIC GIRL BACKING VOCALS.WHAT A FANTASTIC RECORD.THE BEST OF EVER.COMPARE THIS WITH THE WATERED DOWN "SOUL" OF AMY WINEHOUSE---NO COMPARISON.
John Mayer is the only one keeping this amazing music alive.Fuck everyone that is talking shit about him...you obviously don't know what music is all about.
OTIS!!!! he would have been the king of soul if he had not passed away at the age of 27. Ive heard people imitate acts like james brown but no voice is as distinct and SOULFUL as otis. damn shame those plane crash acts.
I would be remiss if i did not also give credit to the superb musical arrangements and talented musicians who played for Otis Redding. I am a musician and i truly appreciate the music behind Otis- it was done very tastefully and with soul and feeling. " Together they were awesome!"
Otis forever. Never old- always current. Such soul that touches the heart and cause one to sing, pat your feet, clap your hands, and even shed a tear. He was able to put into his songs what many of us want to say- he said it for us with such feeling and conviction- can't help but appreciate the God given talent of this man, he was born to sing love songs.
Otis left us way to soon, to be seventeen again....We would listen to him and make out in the back of my 1967 GTO...then youth was interrupted by WAR and youth was lost forever...
If john mayer covered it he must have been inspired by him. I don't understand why anyone holds that against him. Under that logic jimi hendrix, eric clapton, robert johnson, jeff buckly etc. are all garbage because they covered a song that they liked.
@streetcornerjames Please listen to "Out of My Mind" or "Stop this train" by John Mayer, if you still think he is "whack" then you have no appriciation for talent nor soul. And what do you mean "weak ass name"? He's played with slowhand, bb king, and buddy guy, I don't see any videos of you with these legends. If he has a weak name yours must be pitiful.
@dextermijit totally agree. John Mayer covering this song says openly to all the Otis fans, that John Mayer is a fan too. Wow...a musician being a fan of good music...isn't that an uncommon scene
otis' voice and soul is not in question here... but when you listen to any of his songs, particularly this one, the instrumentation and rythyms are an amazing accent to his impeccable timing and tone. when the song changes key in the middle and the brass flutters... "girl, you just satisfy me, ooo-wee!"
so sad there's so many great voices out there, can we get another Mr.Otis Redding?may be yes but we also got to find soul!! so many great voices no soul... Oh! got one person in mind, MR. R Kelly.....

This song is amazing, one of my all time favourite songs, playing it loud....his tone of voice.....chills and tears me up, oh to meet a man with a voice like this, who also loves the soulful blues, I'd marry him the day i met him :)
brings back memories of when i was a teenager back in the day and grew up with otis,percy and all the great soul singers there where then. don't get no better than that and believe me they sounded just as good in person as on a record man i really miss those times something that will allways be in my heart and soul that was music that was soul
belle music ,depuis mon enfance jai tjrs aimé otis et pourtant je comprends pas langlais, surtout emen satisfaction samreppel ma jnesse la miser sous loccupation du negre hassan2 fils desclave le sorcier, vive la republiqe du maroc
Anyone saying John Mayer is above Otis Redding can go dig a grave and cover themselves up with their own bullshit. John Mayer can play guitar, but he's a stone cold ripoff of Dave Matthews. Otis Redding is in another galaxy of vocal talent.
This era of soul songwriting is also almost never equalled, so just give it up.
@TheRealCritique Stone cold rip off of Matthews? Wow. You either dont listen to Mayer or you dont listen to Matthews. Its one of those. They sound nothing alike. Not the voice, not the music, not the lyrics, not anything.
@TheRealCritique Bashing someone's opinion because yours differs isn't cool bro. Just enjoy the music , if you think otis is better thats fine , both artists are unique in their own way.
@TheRealCritique Wow John Mayer is not a stone cold ripoff of Dave Matthews by a longshot. He plays acoustic pop sometimes, and vocally he's not the most impressive (unlike Otis Redding) but there's no reason to put him down like that he deserves respect.
@TheRealCritique Or you can not be judgmental and try to say one artist is a piece of garbage just because he isn't your favorite.
The preponderance of the time I hear someone insult John Mayer's music all they have to go on is Your Body is a Wonderland or various other songs form his earlier acoustic-pop days. John's sound has changed with every album, and his songwriting and lyrics are magnificent.
I love and adore Otis, and I love and adore John as well. I just don't see the need to hate.
@TheRealCritique REALLY???? Lets see Dave Matthews play some SRV or Hendrix, or BB KING or Clapton in the SAME way that Mayer Plays it... You know NOTHING about Mayer obviously...
@sngncwby yeah, ok, go drink some more raspberry wine, yokel fool. Sorry, I'm not a faggot or even gay, but nice attempt at investigation. I won't be able to get you off, but I'm sure you can go back to your pet goat. He'll do anything for you. Yeah, Mayer can play guitar. He also stole Dave Matthews vocal style, which frankly I could give a fuck about. Apparently Mayer is a country yokel, cuz he's brought out the tea party moron crowd. I didn't know he had such a nazi following
Did anyone actually mention Joh Mayers name in the same conversation (let alone breath) as the Great Otis? I think that warrants someone have their head examined.
@TheRealCritique i agree john mayer isnt better than otis redding... but you honestly dont know anything about him? Dave Matthews? Wtf? They dont even sound a little like eachother..? You should do your homework (;
@kevfulchester I agree, Otis Redding had the perfect voice - with that there is no doubt. I guess it is how you interpret and define Blues and Soul. Today, R&B and Soul is just an insipid watered down version of the 60's Soul music and compared with today's Soul, Otis Redding truly does sing the Blues - brilliantly.
I Got Dreaaaaaaaaaaaams To Remembeeeeeeeeeer :) wow WoW WOW THIS IS A REAL MUSIC

John Mayer is a piece of garbage in comparison.

@TheRealCritique Stone cold rip off of Matthews? Wow. You either dont listen to Mayer or you dont listen to Matthews. Its one of those. They sound nothing alike. Not the voice, not the music, not the lyrics, not anything.

@mcbm1991 yeah, I don't listen to anything. That's why I made my comment.

@TheRealCritique Really,Dave Mattews ? I don't really like Dave Matthews too much. And I don't think Matthews comes anywhere near Mayer on guitar.

@TheRealCritique
Did anyone actually mention Joh Mayers name in the same conversation (let alone breath) as the Great Otis? I think that warrants someone have their head examined.
MrBluesrules 4 months ago
@TheRealCritique i agree john mayer isnt better than otis redding... but you honestly dont know anything about him? Dave Matthews? Wtf? They dont even sound a little like eachother..? You should do your homework (;

@6hillsway Soul? This is unadulterated pure blues man! Redding had the PERFECT voice. End of story!
kevfulchester 1 year ago 5
@kevfulchester I agree, Otis Redding had the perfect voice - with that there is no doubt. I guess it is how you interpret and define Blues and Soul. Today, R&B and Soul is just an insipid watered down version of the 60's Soul music and compared with today's Soul, Otis Redding truly does sing the Blues - brilliantly.

@kevfulchester dude this is soul
