The music was played in the theater by a live piano player. It's only later that they added the music tracks to the movies. As for having the people talk over the lips.Some of the actors didn't have very good speaking voices and that's why quite a few never made it in movies once the talkies started.It was all about the face for silent movies.

It's made up of numerous different tracks from a CD of silent movie music. The CD is only available to people in the TV/radio/film business, it's not possible to buy it in shops.

Hilarious bit of parody from a show that did a good job of parodying itself. Apparently, Fred "the Show Killer" Freiberger* has a sense of humor. I admit it, I've loved this show since I watched it debut at age 5. It's always been this bizarre combination high and low production values. Beautifully built & crafted sets, often amazing sfx with wretched costumes & frequently bad writing. *(he'slammed by Leonard Nimoy in "I Am Spock" and by "Tribbles" writer David Gerrold in an ep commentary).
