It's been 20 years since I played this awesome game, but if my memory serves me correctly this tune slowly developed a heavier base-line as the game progressed into advanced levels. No big deal, but i recall thinking that was kinda cool.

Does anyone remember being surpirsed by the unexpected dragon in the final stages?

Okay, I now know the name of this theme. It's called "Break a Trap for Yourself". It can be found on the Zillion anime soundtrack "Akai Koudan Zillion - LET IT ROCK!"
