  • fantastic

  • I guess I would be considered a "Tree Hugger" and I think this is great.

  • Such a beautiful area, the home of the platypus! We go back and forth about our stream---we don't have nearly the head you do, but about the same flow. Here in U.S., your viewers are right---environmentalists would sue you for everything you had if you did this here--they'd claim it was unduly bestirring a butterfly's wing, somewhere a world away. And they'd win in court. Congress is currently considering confiscating ALL standing and running water as "The waters of America". Help!!

  • awesome idea and cool how it works.

  • I saw u purchased the unit, can u say where and for $ ? I am fascinated by Hydro systems and truly enjoy the video thanks jason

  • Man, this is a beautiful set-up, in a beautiful place.

Looked like you were generating around 1.75 kW there, which is awesome.

Also, tree huggers would not have an issue with this. "Tree huggers" have an issue with damned hydopower, which is a fucked up way of getting power, though a fine way of storing energy if it's not being used. Tree huggers would like this even more because its decentralised from the main system, thereby causing self-reliance. That is good.

    Power to the people.

  • Great work M8! I'm thinking about moving next to you, use up the excess power you have LOL.

Nice looking area, here in the U.S the tree huggers would have us in court in no time! Saying we're killing the fish and disturbing the area. It's a no win problem here!

  • Very nice work..and location

    Is the system grid tied?

or how do you use the power and what about the extra?

  • good engineering!!!

  • That is a great setup. I want to make a small one to run our sump pump in our basement. We have water flow right in to a hole and then it is pumped out. I want to use the water coming as the power source.

  • wouldn't that be against the laws of physics

  • great setup.

  • I'm surprized that the tree huggers have not shut you down..

  • I am impressed , you are brilliant not just your talents but how you coordinate it all. fantastic!

  • That's a really cool setup you've got there mate.

  • That is some crystal clean water, nearly no worries for impurities there huh?

You have quite something there, do you have it on all the time?

  • Yeah...you can't get much purer!

It's on for 9 or 10 months of the year,I shut it down during the real dry part of the year, and run on a solar system for a couple of months.

It's been in for 7 years, and hasn't missed a beat.....one of the best things I've done around here!

  • I understand the Head, but what type of turbine is being used? Was it purchased, or is it home made, looks almost like a car turbo. What speed do you turn the device at?

  • It's a Francis Turbine.....It was purchased.

They are a common turbine used in hydro electricity production. The alternator is belt driven by the turbine, and spins at 1500 Rpm.

  • wow, that is impressive! So no more energy bills? Thanks for sharing!

  • how does the water get directed into the pipe?

  • It's what's called Gravity feed.....the intake is 50 meters above the Turbine....it works like a Giant Siphon hose!
