I wonder why she is against endorsing Shiseido in the US or Europe. It is a very reputable brand and we know she donates all her commercial earnings to charity anyhow. She can make them donate a large sum of donation to one of her charities by fronting the brand in the Western Hemisphere - just like what she did with Louis Vuitton.
@calaftheeast Hollywood has a long history of considering mega stars doing product commercials as downgrading the celebritie's star status. Huge stars have been doing commercials in Japan for decades, for the HUGE paychecks and to avoid marring their reputation. My personal guess is that Angelina got paid more for these few commercials than her paycheck for one movie.
Yeah, I know and I'm aware of the fact that she today is the empress of Hollywood. But everyone knows Brad sells denim, Clooney sells espresso etc. in Japan. And many actresses sell cosmetics all around the globe like fashion models including the domestic market for brands like Lancome or Revlon, not to mention all those perfume ads with actors.
Jolie worked for St. John and LV for the American/European markets. Shiseido is not any inferior to St. John.
@calaftheeast Hi! Thanks for replying. Of Shiseido's sales outside Japan, the Americas represented 7.5% of sales; Europe, 11.5%. 63.3 % of their sales are in Japan. It probably makes little sense for the company to spend such money where they have such a tiny market share, not that successful or well known, etc. Angelina in Japan sells units, Angelina in the USA would only help establish the brand (maybe).
You're right. But still; I would never begrudge, blame or resent her for backing some cosmetic name in the domestic markets, because the woman donates huge sums to legit charities. The 10-20 million she demanded from LV has all been donated to charities - just as the obscene sums those rag magazines paid her for sharing her baby pics.
She can singlehandedly make these brands/corporations donate enormous sums by just backing them. She is beyond influential.
