This performance took place on Tuesday, May 6th, 2003. I was there, and also saw him again in Pittsburgh back in October of 2000. I was fortunate enough to receive at least one headbutt from the man.
He loved to perform. His music was the only thing that kept the voices in his head at ease. In ten years no one will know who he was anyways. Yeah, I, too feel he was used by people, like Jello Biafra to make money. It is a fucking sick society.
which do you think he would've preffered? being locked up in some home and drugged up and ignored, or having people listen to his records and go to his gigs and appreciate him for who he was. just cause someone is mentally ill that doesnt mean they have nothing to offer society, or that they should be removed from it. He was ace and it's good that his voice got heard.
check out the documentary The Daddy of Rock'N'Roll it explains alot, and hwo much of a great guy he was rather then just a novelty act.. he wont be a joke to you anymore but youll understand more of what he went through

In answer to Masta Chance, it's a callous that appeared as a result of head butting fans in a friendly way after the show.

He should have been institutionalized and given proper medical care instead of parading him around like a freak. Fucking degenerate society!

The bruise on his head is in fact from headbutting people.
He did this with his fans all the time.It was his way of shaking hands.
