For the people saying it's 100% inspired by Animal Farm, could you please explain "the House of Pain"? Because that's from The Island of Dr. Moreau...
@cacamille Richard Gibbs and Kerry Hatch (bass player) left the band and formed Zuma 2 (or maybe Zuma II). I actually saw them perform in clubs in LA after they formed in that band. Timeline would be around 1985-ish?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong when they left Oingo Boingo. Not sure what happened after that.
@conjeel Nothing to do with Animal Farm--nothing. Both the phrase House of Pain and What is the Law are directly from H.G. Wells Island of Dr. Moreau.
I love this song, it always reminds me of Devo's song "Jocko Homo". Probably has something to do with Island Of Lost Souls, I wonder if there is any connection between the bands or they've both just seen the film coincidentally. Cause I know Devo saw the film in the early 70s from some horror movie host. Don't know Boingo's story, though.
I would have thought so, too. Plus, maybe even connections with some of Jack London's work. But Danny inserted a clip from the movie "Island of Lost Souls" (an adaptation of the H. G. Wells book The Island of Dr. Moreau) before this song in the '93 Halloween concert so he must have been inspired to write the song from that.
The lyrics to this song were inspired by the H.G. Wells book The Island of Dr. Moreau, which is about a mad scientist on a remote island who conducts horrific experiments on animals, turning them into man-like creatures. Devo's "Jocko Homo" was also inspired by Dr. Moreau.
perhaps this site will post the movie footage that shows some of danny's other inspiration for this song- the old black and white flick that had some nut case guy changing animals into wolfy types. Hey Boingo fan- gonna post it?
Island of Lost Souls, which is also based on The Island of Doctor Moreau, so it's not so much 'the other inspiration' as the more direct source of the inspiration.
this song really is not preformed as well as some of their other songs *check out insanity on their farewell concert they did a really nice job on that one*
wonder if jack london lived long enough to see his call of the wild and buck stories changed into this song- makes ya want to read these books to see the exact references danny is using.

Are you sure the inspiration isn't from Animal Farm?

Danny looks PISSED. Either the crowd sucked, or the lack of backing vocals got to him.
