What's the difference between the official drivers and "modded drivers"?
And, will Intel drivers like these work in place of a "custom driver" from, say, a Dell Inspirion?
Also, what's "acceptable framerates"? Because, in Half Life 2: Episode 2 on an Inspirion 1750 with a mobile intel 4 chipset, my frames usually go between 30-15 fps on low settings.
So, I have the Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family fwith Vista. On the blog it said the driver for Vista OS's willl be out soon (with the blog being poster over two years ago). Where can I find the Vista driver and can my version of G965 even work with this driver?
Dude I play all my game in sofftware vertex mode and I get 20 to 25 fps in prince of persia 2008 and 15 to 25 in prototype, seriouly, I an not jocking
Me da un poco de miedo desinstalar los drivers que trae dell y reinstalar los oficiales, ya que me han dicho las gráficas de un portátil y de sobremesa son diferentes y no la vaya a cagar.
it's because, videos are recorded so it affects the quality.. but Intel's graphics doesn't sucks.. It is just the point that chipsets aren't that powerful enough coz of its low consumptions & cost as well...
I really think this is fake. my crappy intel GMA 965 can't play Far cry all on low in the jungle in a big firefight above a framerate of approx 10. however, here everything appears to be on high and the framerate is at least 30 fps. same for bf2. some1 plz reply and help me with this problem if it is fake or not.
Have you updated Drivers? Apparently for such a small highly tuned chipset, drivers make all the difference on performance. Maybe turn down the resolution, this chipset was probably made with small laptops screens (1280x800) in mind.
Otherwise, spam Intel for answers, I've got the same set-up and will be trying it out with some early 2000's games.
I have an Intel X3100 in my laptop and a GeForce 8600 GT in my computer. There's definitely a difference in performance and graphics, but the X3100 plays some games very smoothly. I can play Half-Life 2 with quite a few settings on high and maintain an extremely playable frame rate.
I think that farcry is using particles to handle the water waves. So I don't wonder that it's lagging when water is using high settings.. And the texture calculator is a little bit bad too... Calculates too much texture stuff so it gives a bad performance...
This IGP should run farcry at 50 or so but cause of these stupid drivers it's 20 or so..
PLEASE CREATE SOME NEW SIMPLE GOOD DRIVERS...
I can't play AOE3 because this IGP laggs when a ship shoots.. There are only some few simple particles but that IGP calculates them wrong.. and using DX7-8 there is a lagg with the particles.. the same thing. Few particles will give you a real lagging experience. And those particles don't even look good.. they look like big colored boxes..
I just checked if my laptop gathers the requirements to play Resident Evil 4.I checked at systemrequirementslabdotcom and it says i cant...well...i can play the game without any problems...how come? oh and btw...i just cant intall the new drivers for vista...any help? i've done almost everything
I really could've sworn this graphics card was weaker than the stock garphics card that game with my old Asus desktop PC from the year 2001! I got an Inspiron 1525 with this card and I returned it to Dell. I can see Intel is improving the drivers, but like it gonna really boost visuals up THAT high...
and I wasn't even able to play half life smoothly and the frame rate was like a 1940's movie.I had to replace the motherboard a 3 times because it crashed and never swithed on.Plus the JUMPERS OVERHEATED and failed to function.Soonafter I watched this video I went to the intel site and downloaded the latest drivers and now she's running WAY better.
I bought an Intel DG965RY motherboard from a local shop almost a year ago and assembled it.I soon realized that the driver CD was not that effective on my hardware.
My laptop has this Gpu.. makes me proud to know that it should play these games.. but doesn't.
Its got huge potential but its still not compatible with BF2 and COD4 for me..
I have managed to get superb results in 3DMARK06 I tested the pixel shader 3 test and get 6 fps on 1280x700!!! its a great chip.. Plz intel bring out the new drivers!!!
Well, my brother just got this chip in his laptop and I was surprised when games like COD4 and Bioshock (not as surprised) wouldn't work! another question...i downloaded the w.vista home premium 32 bits drivers but when i try to install them an error appears..."the driver that you are trying to install is not validated for this system"....and some other sh*t. can someone explain me WTF is wrong?
The OEM that made your system is restricting the kinds of updates you can do to it. (many system builders like to validate new drivers for overall system compatibility reasons). Contact your OEM and let them know that you want this new driver.
Well, I think Intel's IGP would have a new Image, but I am just frustrated that they deliver drivers too slow. I think they should hire more graphics and software engineers...
Somehow people here don't understand that this is very good for integrated graphics. Those things are cheap and usually very weak. Being able to play Far Cry on it at 20-30 FPS is very good.
I did notice the slow movement in Far Cry in the background which prevented you from seeing how low the FPS was, however, that was with the old drivers. Near the end of this video you can see the new drivers running the game at 20-30FPS.
i have a macbook with a gma950 and it lets me play unreal tournament 1 at 1280*800 around 60 fps! this is even better. Very good value for money your new chips!
The purpose of the FarCry comment below is that they are not moving the character fast on purpose to prevent viewers from seeing the GPU choke up on trying to render the scene at the a faster pace. If they were to run around normal you would notice choppyness.
This not very impressive at all. You'll note that the video gets very choppy when C4 is planted and blown up. This is due to a lack of the GPU being able to handle particles and other complicated effects. Also make note of when displaying the FarCry portion of the video, the character is moving very slowly and does not pan the view fast. Sure, it can draw the game... at 5-10 frames per second, your eyes can see 72 FPS.
Actually Far Cry runs at bweteen 20 and 30 FPS. Sure, BF2 gets choppy at times - but it is still playable. We are talking about a part that costs less than $5. Again - if you are any more than a casual gamer, you really want to turn to a discrete graphics card for your 3D needs.
Look people, if you are going to buy a laptop with any kind of gaming in mind, DO NOT BUY A LAPTOP WITH INTEGRATED GRAPHICS! Why? Poor graphics (see the video?) + chunks of memory going missing + extra processing = one idiotically slow laughing stock, the slowness will also increase and, by the looks of it, with the more updates for drivers you get. Clever software wizardry- yes! but still a poor show. There is NO reason for the hype. "...First step..." but you've had so many!
This is true. If gaming is your primary use for the machine - you should get a discrete graphics component. The G965 chipset supports a x16 PCI-Express slot for this very purpose.
Sure, if won't run crysis, not even Battlefield2 at full details but if one makes an informed purchase you can get a good business notebook that has the added benefit of running Battlefield2 at low details (and everything older even better), while still retaining all the benefits of an IGP such as low power consumption and low heat generation.
I'm a graphic designer and an occasional gamer and I need a notebook that allows me to do graphic intense work on the run, therefore I'm interested in a TabletPC.
The thing is, there is only one TabletPC that has a dedicated card but that one weighs 2.7kg and more, depending on configuration.
Looking from that angle makes the x3100 seem like the holy grail of integrated graphic solutions because it'll allow me to keep my 3-5 hours of battery life while also allowing me to play fairly recent games such as Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R., Battlefield2 + all those great classics like UT2k4 at fairly good settings.
The config included the new driver, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 E6600, 2GB of DDR2-800 and Windows XP with SP2 and all the updates. The games ran at several different resoutions from 800x600 to 1024x768. BF2 had some setting set to low including the terrain.
The new drivers allow for hardware acceleration through the chipset itself - doing it through the CPU is what the previous driver did. Hardware is faster in most cases - but in some games and apps - software (using the CPU) is faster. The drivers select the mode fastest for the application or game automatically.
"Add new features simply through a driver upgrade"?!! Do AMD and nVidia know about this?! They've wasted years with improving the HARDWARE. Man, are they going to feel foolish.
9-25fps My nvidia 6100 and my old ATI xpress 200 can do it using DDR400 in dual channel, for this video they are using DDR2 1333 in dual channel and a super fast processor, i believe.
But I'd really like to know the configuration of the computer it ran on, including screen resolution and the detail settings (high, medium, low) of the games you showed. (especially BF2)
So... what resolution were those games running at? Some LCDs are not 4:3 ratio so running at less than "LCD" resolution may provide higher frame rates it will also end up stretching the image.
Yeah, but it still sucks. For the amount of money extra you have to pay Intel for a 965 board, you might as well get an NVidia 8600 or an ATI 2600XT instead. That way you get better 3D performance, better video (granted not "best of class" like Intel, but then again they're not competing in a one horse race like integrated video chipsets are they?) and more frequent driver releases.
Intel, you'll have to do better than low 20's on a 3 year old game.
Also, even after you claim to have enabled hardware T&L and DirectX 9, my Call of Duty game still crashes in DX9 mode, and all I can do is to set it to DX7 :(
Is it really G965 on which you're displaying Far Cry. I installed the new drivers and downloaded Far Cry demo. The game auto detected and set setting to medium. When I started the demo, all I could see was PURPLE!!! Yes purple trees, purple water, purple sky and what not.
The only workaround was to set settings to LOW, at which game and water in it looked really awful, but atleast I was able to see greenary.

acceptable is, when you can play the game without becoming worse because of your framerate
best is about 40.

My 945gm can usually swing about 30 fps on average in hl:ep2 with 9xx soldiers modded drivers.
But tf:2 is pretty much laggy no matter what. It's playable if you absolutely butcher the visuals in the config, barring wide open spaces...
And the 9xx soldier modders claim COD:2 is playable with their drivers? Hard to believe.

The reason for choosing that Far Cry scene was simple - it is the scene that the old drivers performed the worse on.
IntelNick 4 years ago
This not very impressive at all. You'll note that the video gets very choppy when C4 is planted and blown up. This is due to a lack of the GPU being able to handle particles and other complicated effects. Also make note of when displaying the FarCry portion of the video, the character is moving very slowly and does not pan the view fast. Sure, it can draw the game... at 5-10 frames per second, your eyes can see 72 FPS.
Tech2Go 4 years ago
Actually Far Cry runs at bweteen 20 and 30 FPS. Sure, BF2 gets choppy at times - but it is still playable. We are talking about a part that costs less than $5. Again - if you are any more than a casual gamer, you really want to turn to a discrete graphics card for your 3D needs.

Tech2Go lol, cut it some slack, it is not a graphics card

For integrated graphics this is pretty damn impressive.

Running the 690G with much better video than that. Sorry :/

Haha, and I forgot. My driver is 64 bit windows vista (supposedly worse drivers than 32 bit.). This driver currently only supports windows xp.

I love his comment ... "Intel is committed to graphics for gaming."
Then why did it take you over a year to make 965g work!
DOH!
EditormanSC 4 years ago
Look people, if you are going to buy a laptop with any kind of gaming in mind, DO NOT BUY A LAPTOP WITH INTEGRATED GRAPHICS! Why? Poor graphics (see the video?) + chunks of memory going missing + extra processing = one idiotically slow laughing stock, the slowness will also increase and, by the looks of it, with the more updates for drivers you get. Clever software wizardry- yes! but still a poor show. There is NO reason for the hype. "...First step..." but you've had so many!
xiec 4 years ago
This is true. If gaming is your primary use for the machine - you should get a discrete graphics component. The G965 chipset supports a x16 PCI-Express slot for this very purpose.
IntelNick 4 years ago
Sure, if won't run crysis, not even Battlefield2 at full details but if one makes an informed purchase you can get a good business notebook that has the added benefit of running Battlefield2 at low details (and everything older even better), while still retaining all the benefits of an IGP such as low power consumption and low heat generation.
DerMietprediger 4 years ago
Let's take me as an example.
DerMietprediger 4 years ago
Looking from that angle makes the x3100 seem like the holy grail of integrated graphic solutions because it'll allow me to keep my 3-5 hours of battery life while also allowing me to play fairly recent games such as Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R., Battlefield2 + all those great classics like UT2k4 at fairly good settings.
DerMietprediger 4 years ago
The config included the new driver, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 E6600, 2GB of DDR2-800 and Windows XP with SP2 and all the updates. The games ran at several different resoutions from 800x600 to 1024x768. BF2 had some setting set to low including the terrain.

How much is actually HW accelerated on the G965, and how much is "HW accelerated" on the Core2 (SSE) ?
EuroGerbil 4 years ago
The new drivers allow for hardware acceleration through the chipset itself - doing it through the CPU is what the previous driver did. Hardware is faster in most cases - but in some games and apps - software (using the CPU) is faster. The drivers select the mode fastest for the application or game automatically.

"Add new features simply through a driver upgrade"?!! Do AMD and nVidia know about this?! They've wasted years with improving the HARDWARE. Man, are they going to feel foolish.

good job intel! better late than never :D
i am waiting for intel (and amd`s :D ) first high end graphic card!

peterweber79 oh my god, just get a real graphics card, some peole

@luke have 8months a 8800gts 640mb. not bad ;)

9-25fps My nvidia 6100 and my old ATI xpress 200 can do it using DDR400 in dual channel, for this video they are using DDR2 1333 in dual channel and a super fast processor, i believe.

Enhanced levels of compatibility = Management speak for "it works now"
gr8bluesgtr 4 years ago
Wow, this really looks impressive for an IGP.
But I'd really like to know the configuration of the computer it ran on, including screen resolution and the detail settings (high, medium, low) of the games you showed. (especially BF2)
DerMietprediger 4 years ago
So... what resolution were those games running at? Some LCDs are not 4:3 ratio so running at less than "LCD" resolution may provide higher frame rates it will also end up stretching the image.

why dont you guys make a console.
xF1sTx 4 years ago
Yeah, but it still sucks. For the amount of money extra you have to pay Intel for a 965 board, you might as well get an NVidia 8600 or an ATI 2600XT instead. That way you get better 3D performance, better video (granted not "best of class" like Intel, but then again they're not competing in a one horse race like integrated video chipsets are they?) and more frequent driver releases.
Intel, you'll have to do better than low 20's on a 3 year old game.
24randal24 4 years ago
Also, even after you claim to have enabled hardware T&L and DirectX 9, my Call of Duty game still crashes in DX9 mode, and all I can do is to set it to DX7 :(
anurag4love 4 years ago
Is it really G965 on which you're displaying Far Cry. I installed the new drivers and downloaded Far Cry demo. The game auto detected and set setting to medium. When I started the demo, all I could see was PURPLE!!! Yes purple trees, purple water, purple sky and what not.
The only workaround was to set settings to LOW, at which game and water in it looked really awful, but atleast I was able to see greenary.
