  • @fidomusic Oh you like being poor !!!

  • Älskar ljudet garageinspelad rock <3

  • I paused it at 0;25 and thought 'what's Robbie Williams doing in this video'...then I thought 'oh, it's my old eyes playing up again'. Does look a bit like him though eh? Eh? Billy. UK. With bad eyesight probably.

  • Great post !Thanks for sharing !

  • ポーリュシカ・ポーレ?

  • THere's no way you can tell me that Devo Co-Founders Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerry Casale DIDN'T see these guys at some point before forming their band! Awesome Surf Guitar Arrangement of the classic "Cossack Patrol"! I just knew they were too edgy to be American! SPOTNICKS RULE!

  • Devo before Devo

  • 20 years ahead of their time... before Star Wars... before New Wave... before the Moon landing... before MTV! they were doing this.

  • This tune (good though it is) sounds a lot like 'cossack patrol'

  • @mj0428 its possible to use you tube converter to download this ....

  • I love this it is fantastic, if you have time at some point, it would be nice if you could upload a version that is clear enough to be on my mp3 player, because I would love to hear it everyday :)

Keep up the good work :)

  • pre devo and pre residents awesomeness. somebody owed these guys a check.

  • This is a Russian song.

  • these guys hould have sued Devo...

  • Ez a másik kedvencem többek között.Óriási!

  • This looks so devo-esque.

  • Go to Flickr.com, enter 'Spotnicks' and add your comments.

  • Wonderful. I wish there were more recent Spotnicks versions of this. Don't they play it anymore? Have they played it since?

  • aliens omg

  • mit dem modernen Gitarren-Sound !

  • is very good.i like this music a lot

  • @violetrose2552003 Amazingly cool band with stone faces dressed up in what may well be the cheesiest outfits ever made... Straight in to my top ten at number one!!!!

  • completely blows my mind everytime!

  • @smokeemonkee THE SOUND IS REALLY COOL...spotnicks nearly made it here

  • @smokeemonkee Me too!

  • Very cool helmets! I like the ears. Because of course you need ears on your space helmet! Not even NASA thought of that! This is like Devo, but back in 1962.

  • Полюшко - поле, ё маё!

    Спутники жгуть!!!

  • It's easy to see who Devo got their idea from This group is way kooler. 20000000 thumbs up

  • I dig this

  • five stars, but mine is better

  • Hilarious! It's as if a mad scientist has crossed The Shadows with something out of Bleep and Booster. Love it - five stars!

  • Great

  • Rockin Rocket Man.

  • Excellent.

  • this made my day!

  • What the??? i Wanna see the guy who designed those hell-muts!!!

  • For more info on The Spotnicks, go to the right hand top of this page and see "more info" and cut and paste the address. (youtube doesn't allow me to put a link in the comments). This is from an interview I did of Bo Winberg for the Outer Space issue of PLANET X MAGAZINE.

  • @planetxmagazine It's OK, I don't think I need (or want) the link to The Spotniks. It might just be that I am not up with the (1962) times, but this rendering of the genre would have to represent an embarrassing nadir.

OK, so Dick Dale set the bar very high, whilst the Shadows gave the pop audience an avenue in. But the Spotniks - what an embarrassment. To see a band that wasn't widely popular, but had genuine oomph, look up The Atlantics.

  • @yeah0thats0fine Thanks for the hint (Atlantics..Cool) but you're too harsh on the Spots,ok they were a square bunch, but you've got to see it with the eyes of the time. They made some interesting spacy noises. And don't forget ,these dudes came from northern Scandinavia. Both ends of the spectrum have their merits, sophisticated Shadows,to Dick Dale. Although, I tend to go more for the U K side of things ,like Joe Meek's Tornados. European instrumental outfits had more of a "widescreen" sound.

  • @PAULLONDEN Oh they weren't square at the time, guys in space suits using radio transmitters for their guitars instead of leads (which they pioneered) it didn't come any cooler !!!

  • 0:37

  • Light years ahead of DEVO

  • Spotnick is still going round in orginal

setting on tour in sweden :)

  • Originally this is the RUSSIAN folk song "Poliushko-pole"

  • @vadikas

    In Germany it's the "Kosaken-Patrouille" !

  • Cossack patrol is the name of the tune

  • the song they're playing is cossak patrol, a well known russian tune

  • awesome stuff didnt know that thank you ;D

  • 1:41 Is that Tony Hawk?

  • LOL

  • He'd have to be at least 60 years old now if it was... does look like him though, doesn't it? Weird.

  • Fantastic, love it. A drummer with a vibrating helmet is not something you see very often.

  • Exactly.. my fave part too, and what keeps me coming back for more. How he can keep a straight face and do that is beyond me. Also cool that these guys still gig today.

  • Lovee it :D

  • They looked like idiots!!

  • Those are some well goofy helmets =D

  • 4 3 2 1 launch me back in time . cool vid thanx for posting it

  • watch?v=5K7xIpuuhl4&feature=channel_page

  • Havn't seen this since 1963 or was it 4?

  • Looks like Devolution has been going on longer than I thought.. GREAT surf music!!

  • Bra Musik Från Sverige

  • Hi people, they play russian traditional folk song "poljuska pole" means something like "fields oh fields"

  • HEY does anyone else think that these guys may have given the band "DEVO" any ideas. They have kind of a Devo-ish look

  • Devo took on the "kitchy" look, just as bands like the Spotniks did!

  • the funniest faces of the 60's era. I've never seen some ears like the bassist eyes. Costumes ridiculous.

  • I really like the music and video,

thanks for putting it up here!

I'm worried about something, though - if you click pause at 1:18 the guy looks like that big fellow in the James Bond movies that had the huge pointy metal teeth!

  • Jaws?

  • Yeah, Jaws was that really tall guy with the icky stainless steel teeth who could bite through electrical cables and stuff.

  • This is so great; inspiring. It still thrills me as much as when I first heard it in the early sixties. By far the best Spotnicks track. Pity they don't seem to play it now. Thank you for posting it.

  • I GOTS to get me some of that Space Helmet!

  • Thank you, I2p, for the in-depth analysis of the differences between The Spotnicks and Devo. I do not mean to imply that Devo ripped them off. Lighten up. It was a joke.

  • Now we know where Devo stole their act.

  • You got guys doing pretty tame surf rock and some quirky moves thrown in. Devo was much more concept based. If you want to suggest that Devo ripped them off, that's fine. But there's no comparison considering musical influence and pure innovation in their respective times.

Besides, if all you think of is "spacemen with jerky movements" when you think of Devo, you've missed the point.

  • Hell yes, back when rock and roll was really fun and people didn't take themselves so seriously. Great sound.

  • Thanks!! i remember this so well I have the record but it is soo old. I love the movements of the musicians.. it is not al all like it gives an extra dimension to the music.

  • OOhh hehehe Nice heads.... XI)

  • fantastic.
