Seriously, it's a shame that Japan never bought Tomcats. I think they wanted to, but McDonnell Douglas (who created the F-15) had a bigger lobby in Washington.
Ace Combat 6 Fires Of Liberation is one of the only good games on 3sh#%&y. Sorry man but I'm a huge fan of Ace Combat fan but was pissed off when it was on 360. But yeah fun game. They where the third Squad to transition to the F-18E/F, around 2002-03. The flew early block F-14As though not F-14Ds like in the video.
The Black Knights were beast over Iraq, the became one of the few F-14 squads that were dedicated to close air support and were detached on land as well.
Depends on who you talked to. The F14 was designed around the Phoenix missile platform, it had a revolutionary radar and weapon system for it's time, it had a Rio to handle weapons, radar, and visuals behind them, giving the pilot freedom to concentrate on piloting and seeing what was ahead of him, oh and there was that movie Topgun... Not to mention that even the Japanese were in love with the F14 and designed a fighter in one of their anime series after the F14.
A close friend of mine said that the F14s were the direct opposite of the Su-37 Terminators; F14s focused on stability as opposed to the agility of the Su-37s.
Of course, I'll acknowledge both at any rate. The sight of the F14 in both fiction and real life equals the Su-37 demos I've seen here on YouTube. But I doubt that the F14 would be able to hold its own in a real-life dogfight against the Su-37.
Unless there's something which proves otherwise. Stability VS agility. Who'd win, I wonder?
Topgun pilot in the F14, the Tomcat would have a chance. Otherwise, the Su-37 would probably win. However, I already said the F14 was designed around the Phoenix Missile system, and was a Fleet Defender. It's a 40 year old design that did it's job well, and was manageable in a dog fight(though not superior to many fighters). There isn't anymore F14's flying in the U.S. military for a reason. Still doesn't mean, it's not my favorite aircraft of all time, and will remain so for years to come.
I don't remember if it was in that series, but in Macross Zero, the main character piloted one for the UN in the beginning of the first episode before getting shot down by an unknown transforming fighter(took out I believe 4 migs though in the process and put up a bit of a fight considering).

トムキャットの可変翼は最高なんだが、あの重量と整備性能・・・・まぁそれを除けば誰もが好きになれるような機体なんだろうけどね。けど、この改良型で「スーパートムキャット」っていうのが出てて、兵器搭載性能や、索敵性能が大幅に向上した機体もあるね

親父の知り合いのパイロット曰く、ホーネットよりも整備が大変で２人より１人のほうが色々と好都合なんだって。
ホーネットは小回り利くからトム・キャットにでも遅れをとらないらしい。五分五分で安いんだったらホーネットなんだとさぁ。
後トム・キャットはコックピット臭いんだってｗ

やっぱり、トムキャットは素晴らしい。
ただ、アキレス腱の１つである乱気流吸入によるエンジンストール問題は、改良で多少は良くなったが、結局根本の解決には至らなかった経緯がある。
そのせいで、トップガンでもあったように殉職者が多数出たわけだが。
その点と維持費に目をつぶれば、現状でもトップクラスの傑作機であるのは間違いないです。
