Too kewl!! Now this has to be the 'Fairest' way to thin out the Rabbit population, enjoy a very tasty meat..and Piss off at least 25 People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals!! Can't wait to see the next one..thanks for making these..and I'm being truthful when I say..I found 21" of wire..just watched this 2nd vid..and am gonna set one in a bit..we got 10" ...at least of Snow yesterday and last night..and I want to eat a rabbit..been a while...never snared before..again..thanks
I've set a few snares of my own. The problem is something keeps hitting them it and knocking it to the side of the trail. I dont know what I'm doing wrong?
this might sound dirty but i always rub my fingers in rabbit droppings and rub my fingers on the wire the string and near the snare to hide the smell of humons! lol
The suggestion wasn't to get naked and roll around in it.
You get fecal matter on your hands all the time. It's all around us. Especially if you move around in the woods.
If you really need to catch something, hiding as much of your smell as possible is a good thing. A snare smelling of soap is less likely to give any result compared to a snare that smells more like its environment.
there i live we have a big meadow and i have see some rabbits there. but! on the same meadow it also goes sheeps and they do trails that looks like rabbit trails and their droppings looks like rabbit droppings
I guess when it comes to finding an area where there are rabbits you often got to do some footwork...in different parts of the world their habitat can vary immencely...where I live, they are usually found in thick wooded areas.
When looking for an area that has rabbits, always check for rabbit droppings (you can google to see what they look like), beaten down small trails, or if there is snow where you live, they leave a very distinctive print.
i love your how to vids =) there really helpful. Is it ok to snare them by the foot? becase thats what i always thought a snare was used as, but im gonna try it like this first. thanks!
The rabbit walks or runs along its path, its head goes into the snare, as it continues to go along its way the snare will tighten around its neck, the more the rabbit struggles to get free the tighter the snare will become. quickly cutting off oxygen to the brain...
alot of people thinks that the animal suffers...in reality it is quite painless and over quickly for the rabbit.
No you dont need bait the rabbit walks into the noose part of the snare and as it moves for word the snare tightens around its neck as it does the rabbit panics and pulls it tighter. so theres no need for the bait since the rabbit does all the work, except for having to place the snare
hey this is a great trap this is what i like to use in the winter when the rabbits turn totally white and you cant see them. and i agree with kickass when i kill something i use almost evrything of it, its fur and meat the only thing i waste is gophers but there is way too many of them so who cares
Would this snare method go alright if you attatch it to something firm and have it suspended in front of a rabbit hole? Thanks

I think dialog would be much better than the music, too distracting. Otherwise a great learning tool, thanks.

make them a little bigger.
set it about 4 and a half inches high.
make the loop 4 inches round
his head will go through his shoulders will stop the snare and cause it to tighten.
let me know how this works for you .

codykillincoyote 3 years ago
It would be a little large but still may work :-)
northernpike56 3 years ago
my wire is brand new and its steel, im pretty shure there rabbit runs there to small to be any thing eals
yamahanick15 3 years ago
hey, my wire keeps breaking when i catch them
i use 22 guage wire
yamahanick15 3 years ago
What kind or metal is your 22 gauge wire? How old is it? What condition is it in?
Coyotes or other preditor/prey could be suspect here...But I would be more inclined to suspect the broken wire on the integrety of the wire.

do you think i can cath a squirrel at my park with a similar technique but using a wire snare on a pole thats leaning on a tree?
slingninja82 3 years ago
Should work if set up properly...
northernpike56 3 years ago
so how big should the diameter be of the snare wire im going to put and how high should it be off the pole? should the diameter be fist size????
slingninja82 3 years ago
I would make the diameter no more than 2 3/4 inches, and set it no more than an inch and 1/2 high.
Oh and use a light wire no bigger than 24 guage. :-)

thanks you guys have been a lot of help,
sorry for being impatient, but can you post a video of how to make a bird snare, it would be awesome,
i don't know if those are legal though are they?

i'm still confused are you supposed to put bait near the snare. sorry i am a beginer pleasehelp me northernpike
559tbone559 4 years ago
No bait, just place the snare in a very well defined rabbit trail...
northernpike56 4 years ago
nice dude, but can you show a video of it in action.
