Watch something like this and then observe the counterfeit impersonation that Kobe does. Kobe has never been on this level. Jordan did this for a decade, against real defenses.
Notice how professional Jordan and the Bulls walk off their own court! No beating their chest, no snarling, no gathering at center court and celebrating. Miami heat aren't on the same calibre and Bosh cries when they lose after he pounds his chest during a win! 70's 80's 90's Basketball is gone
John Starks probably do not sleep untill today because of these matches, he was like a punk kid the thought could beat everyone, but Michael was just reaping off his defense
@SwaggerLikeUz And that was then!!! Imagine Jordan playing against these teams today. Can you imagine what would happen to the Heat if Jordan had been sick instead of Nowitzki and those punks Wade and LeBron mocked his illness?!? He would seriously challenge Wilt's record of 100 and the Bulls would win by 30.
54 points in the playoffs against the best defensive team that year, and remember He had a 4 point play that got called an offensive foul too. Then the next series Jordan hit probably the best shot I ever seen to end the playoffs for Cleveland. This dude was phenomenal every year!
@BPTVReggae LOL, yes, today's Knicks might be fresh and young, but they lost the bumpy and tough play from the 1990's squad with Pat Ewing, Anthony Mason, Charles Oakley and John Starks.
Great video my man, ANYONE with a PS3 can download my rosters on 2k10 with THESE TEAMS that play LIKE this video, and a HOST of others great rivalries, check my channel, you wont regret it. Peace. 60% shooting with a bad shooting wrist vs the number 1 D in the league at that time, Starks was the only guy on the floor there that could d jordan decently, not like reley never tried other guys on him, They both fed off each other because they both like to talk off the court and during the game. God help any defender when jordan is feeling his jumper like he was that night.
His ability to take over a game at will when it really matters never ceases to amaze me. One of the greatest (or imo THE greatest) athletes in any sport.
This was a tough game for us to lose and I remember knowing that The Bulls were going to win the series because of the momentum they had after Jordan put on a show on my Knicks.
Jordan greatest ever no doubt any1 who thinks anybody is better than Jordan has brain damage. I love how MJ toasts and burns Starks every way possible
MJ greatest basketball player ever and is the greatest competitor I've ever seen in any sport.......
I know MJ has gone off with the jumper before, but the next time I hear some idiot talk about "you know who" having a better jumper than MJ I'll post this as a response.
The dude scores 54 points, 17 FG's on jumpshots, 6 three pointers AND 1 LAYUP...ONE!
And this is against the best defense in the league, in a 1-2 hole, in the ECF, trying to do something no team has done in 30 years (lead a team to a 3-peat)!
Who else shoots like this against that kind of pressure? Seriously...
This was right after a columnist published a piece saying that Jordan was losing his edge. I'm a Knicks fan and all I can remember thinking was "He's pist...and he's unleashed holy hell on us." I was 7 at the time. Jordan made kids think of such things, tbh.
To me this was Mike greatest playoff performance outside of the garden party...Why i say that? well let see...his team was down 2 to 1 and if they had lost then the knicks wouldve been up 3 to 1 and i dont think this bulls team wouldve been able to came back and forced a game 7 and the 1993 finals wouldve been suns vs. knicks instead....so he had to drop 54 cause this was a crucial game 4 and the knicks were the number 1 defense in the league which made it more amazing
i hope kobe is watching this at home, kobe this is what a man that can bring a team together can do, even IF you did get that 6th ring you will never be jordan!
What's funny is MJ almost seems a little bit slower than his normal self in this game. Seems like he was playing slow motion, and he still scored 54. Amazing.
do you think MJ wouldn't translate to today's game? Because he could, he wasn't far off from today in the first place, he dropped what 43 points in 2003 at the age of 40, and back then you could hand check, if all those hand checks were fouls he'd have dropped 20 more in free throws or allowed shots
2 things his spring his legs looked real strong this game esp on his first shot and second what is that song playing in the back ground after the game was over, it sounds like an old school Hammer song??
You'll NEVER see a matchup like Starks/Jordan or a performance like this under these defensive conditions again.
The offense and defense dished punishment. Starks clawed, pushed, and grabbed Jordan almost every play. On the other end Jordan dishes it right back. He slaps and elbows Starks hands out of the way to get free.
If this game were officiated with today's rules Starks would have fouled out, Jordan would've shot 25 FT's and finished with 70 points.
Starks was freaking great defender!! People dont know it untill they watch NY games.
Jordan's every shot was taken with the hand on his face. Starks was using great technique against MJs shots, something like Battier today, just trying to cover eyes of the shooter, if you consider the fact that he was not tall then the impression is even bigger. Starks was 6,4-6,5 according to different sources, so guarding taller and stronger Jordan was extremely hard
thing is people just start a conversation of kobe and lebron on a jordan page for no reason and theres always a lebron talk on kobe page and kobe talk on lebron page and these players dont give a shit about anybody
@mjoaquin23 Nobody in the history of the league could guard Jordan in his prime, and to be honest nobody could guard him at the end of his days with the Bulls either. Hell, he was still having 40 point games in his late 30's with the Wizards!

@HonoreT35 Add the tough physical D Starks and other guards like Dumars, Dennis Johnson, Michael Cooper and GP later on played plus the inside presence of shotblockers, like Patrick Ewing in this case, and voila...u got what many people consider the GOAT! And Im a Knicks fan saying that!

MICHAEL JORDAN: 54 pts vs New York Knicks (1993 ECF Game 4) HD
Phil took him out of this game with about 7 or 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble. Jordan had 50 at the time. He could've had a much bigger game than he had.
@rudeKiD fine MJ is the greatest...but how you can get 5 thumbs up for saying fuck kobrick, astonishes me....kobe bryant is without a doubt the best basketball player since MJ...so, being from L.A myself imma say this and feel good.....FUCK you...
@jonnyrisas hahah no FUCK YOU! i get thumbs up cause its true faggot...kobe is good without a doubt but why follow someone whos personality so fake n whack
GOAT, showcasing the gorgeous shooting stroke, and that incredible touch. Starks, as good a defender as he was, could do nothing. Stubborn ole Riley should have doubled or tripled MJ more.
They could have but the problem was that MJ wasn't even putting the ball on the floor maybe one or two dribbles then shoots it. Much to the idiot younger fans who claim that MJ only dunked and drove to the basket, this game is proof that those claims are false. He only had 1 layup in this game and unlike a lot of current players he didnt go to the Free Throw line 20 times
@sopa71479 Riley was also known to be incredibly stubborn, much like Sloan, in refusing to double players, and sticking with man to man. In addition, he had a 2nd team all defense guy in Starks guarding him. He would have been better served doubling and trapping MJ and taking his chances with the rest of the bulls.
John Starks' face at 5:11 is the definition of helplessness.

haha he had starks heated

Phil took him out of this game with about 7 or 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble. Jordan had 50 at the time. He could've had a much bigger game than he had.

THE MACHINE MAN

GOAT, showcasing the gorgeous shooting stroke, and that incredible touch. Starks, as good a defender as he was, could do nothing. Stubborn ole Riley should have doubled or tripled MJ more.
utfanatic2000 1 year ago
@utfanatic2000 even they do that i think MJ can score or MJ will past the ball to his free team mate like pippen .. or score on 3's
zendo09 1 year ago

I somewhat disagree. Doubling Jordan can often be a risky strategy.
Remember, MJ shot poorly in Game 3, but he had 11 assts as the Knicks doubled him quite hard, and the rest of the Bulls routed the Knicks.
In game 5 Knicks double teamed MJ more often. He had a triple double with 29 points in spite of the double team.

@PAZ0619 Doubling ANYONE can be a risky strategy, that's why some coaches refuse to do it unless absolutely necessary.

Whats crazy is that Starks played really good defense against MJ in this game, but it didn't matter. MJ was on automatic.

@cooljjjj all of that defense are called fouls in the NBA for the past 6 or more years lol
