Estas candidatas de Finlandia e Inglaterra quedaron luego ese mismo año de 1era. y 2da. finalista respectivamente en el Miss Mundo. La de Alemania también compitió en el Miss Mundo de ese mismo año pero sin figuración. La de Aruba y la de Islas Cayman, que aquí no clasificaron, en el Miss Mundo sí quedaron (entre las semifinalistas). La de Australia que aquí no figuró, quedó luego 2da. finalista del Miss Mundo pero de 1984.

Not a very spectacular MU in terms of contestants. The judging very questionable. I don't understand why Brazil was not in the top 5. I'm not too convinced Uruguay, USA and Peru deserved to be semifinalists. Top 5: Brazil, Canada, Greece, Italy and Guam. Greece and Italy were attractive but lacked a certain magnetism. Canada seemed well rounded. I would have chosen Brazil. Beautiful, great body, stylish and strong personality.

Destacaron Canada por su dulzura, Guam por lo segura y fresca la chica de brazil bella pero muy sobrada lucia como arrogante debio ser mas humilde su pasarela no fue muy buena! Saludos desde chile

jajaj siiiii uruguay camina como potranca enloquecida, se acomodó el poncho y bajo las escaleras torpemente, tampoco vió las marcas del piso, se paró y miro para donde le dió la gana, pero si lo miran de esta otra forma esas mujeres eran naturales "sin cirugías" ahora la mayoría estan ultra-mega-hiper producidas y comienzan a posar a penas detectan una cámara, son mas falsas que sosten de maricón

There must be an error in Miss Africa's score. Someone must have forgot to input the score,thus bringing down the overall average. There was no way she deserved such a low score: after scoring the highest preliminary swimsuit score and did so well in the interview and evening gown in the final.

Miss Universe 1982 was a wierd contest. I never understood why Miss Guam was first runner up. Germany, Uruguay, Peru, and USA did not deserve to be among 12 top. For me the most beautiful were Greece, South Africa and Canada. Brazil was beautiful, but she thought she has already won the contest. Miss England was a cold beauty. I would choose Miss Greece as Miss Universe.

Canada: Camina sin gracia, cara y cabeza inmensas y piernas sin forma...Brasil: Una mamacita!!!, le dieron un puntaje mezquino teniendo uno de los mejores cuerpos, porte y cara...Italia no es bonita pero tiene un "tipaso" super interesante y sexy...Sudafrica cuerpaso y linda de cara, puntaje mezquino tambièn...Finlandia muy grande, no tiene mal cuerpo en todo caso...

Andrea Stelzer was Miss South Africa 1985 but when she arrived at Miami Airport Immigration did not accept her entrance to Miami.Reasons: Radical protests by American Anti-Apartheid activists.after...like many South African, she became German citizen. In 1989 she won the Miss Germany Title. She went to Cancun and was semifinalist at the Miss Universe...Bye

Notice how the really tall girls (5'10+) were marked low, even though they looked incredible? If they competed today they would be marked very high. Also, Guam looks much shorter than 5'5' as they said during swim. she looks 5'2'

It's weird because SA did well in prelims but she was scored so low in swim, and people would say it was to keep her from winning (politics), but then she did finish 1-2 in interview and gown, so this makes the politics theory weak. But if it were different judges on final night, that could have been it. 7.225 is possible because there were others (like Uruguay) who were in the 7s. I think SA's low mark was the cause of error.

South Africa was totally robbed. She would have won had she made the top 5. I bet the judges themselves were all shocked she didn't make it. Either there was a scoring error or some judge scored her very very low.

when did they start discarding the highest&lowest scores given by each judge? maybe in 1982 this wasn't applied yet,& a judge, whether intentional or not, gave south africa a score low enough to pull down her average swimsuit score.remember the extreme case when ms. phil.1999 got a 2.0 from a judge during the interview competition?that would've pulled down her score if not for the rule.

9.225 is too high. Please also notice that Miss England who is only second to South Africa in the prelim swim suit also only score 7.8. But of course, even if Miss South Africa only scored 8.225, she would be placed in the top 5 and won Miss Universe. I think for political reasons, they do not want to have 2 Miss South Africas winning Miss Universe in less than 5 years.

Miss South Africa was not won for the Apartheid. She was big favourite...Certainly, Odett Scrooby was disqualified..After 1984,Miss Universe company did not accept South Africa contestants until 1995,when Namibia was host the Miss Universe

I think the computer scores were wrong for South Africa,,it should have been 9.225. She was truly robbed.

Apparently, some of the judges who supported Miss South Africa in the preliminaries didn't vote here.

After Swimsuit, South Africa was First Place in Evening Gown and before that, Second place in Interview....

She almost made it to the Top 5 round.... 6th place.

Miss USA took her spot.
