throw some reverb or delay on there and that would sound pretty good. im thinking about doing the same thing with mine but on the bridge id have a tone zone. sounds good tho keep at it.
Cool dude, thinking of getting a hsh myself. Btw u got massive hands, you gotta have a pretty nice reach? Hitting the subscribe button now, keep shredding!
It depends. If you just want the Humbucker and two single coils selectable, 3 way works. IF you want to coil tap either of the humbuckers you could make use of a 5 way.
hey i forgot does fender do an hsh routing on the strats? i heard somewhere that even though they fill it with all single coils they still route the neck and bridge positions to be able to fit a humbucker. do you know if this is true?
It depends. I have a mexi strat...it wasn't routed for a humbucker, except in the bridge, so I had to take a drill and carve out the wood to make it a swimming pool route.
Just take off the pickguard and check...I think it varies depending on the make...model...production date...
the american deluxe series are hsh routed, not sure f the standard american series though... mis talso want to check out the new charvel so-cals, they are hsh routed as well
dude, u did the exact same thing i'm doing right now, i can't believe i found someone else whose doing it! i was gonna get a black strat, throw a black pickguard on for a badass look, but i didnt want the rosewood neck becuase i wanted to look sort of like gilmours black strat, then i was gonna do a hsh config because i want a more rockin sound. and if people ask why u got a strat, just say its one of the most comfortable guitars in the world to play, or at least it is for me anyway
Ah, that's the easiest part. It's easiest to imagine when you've got your whole circuit complete...The killswitch has 2 prongs...it doesn't matter which is which, but one needs to be wired with the hot signal (run the wire from your switch that goes to your jack to the killswitch, then to the jack.), then the other to ground. All this does is when you press the switch it grounds out the signal, not allowing it to pass to the jack.
THANK YOU!!!!! i have Strat and are putting in a super distortion hum and everyone at school in my music class thinks im crazy cause im " ruining the vintage of the Strat ". Thats all bullshit, its more then the pickups, and i dont even understand y everyone loves the single coil.
That's true. Also, I have this thing coil tapped in pos. 2 &4, so it's not like I don't have single coil sounds available to me- I do. I also have the single in the middle...that's 3 single coil options, and 2 humbucking options.
Im gettin a hum in the bridge and leavin my other 2 single coils on the middle and neck. Ordered the pickup just the other day and should comin soon, Gonna be sik
That sounds really good dude. I like what youv'e done with it but it doesnt even look like a Strat anymore (not a bad thing). Im gonna change my bridge pickup to a super dist dp218. I was gonna get the hums but if i only change the bridge it might be to powerfull with a hum and 2 single coils. Keep it up, sounds great.
It sounds fine, though, I usually switch to my mid pickup when I'm doing cleans. It's more "smooth" with such a hot humbucker, but it's manageable especially if you roll down the volume a bit.
That guitar reminds me of Glen tipton's(Judas Priest) strat the one in the video of hot rockin and on the cover of Unleashed in the East only difference is that he got white knobs and no single coil and the super distortion in both the bridge and neck
sounds good man. I'm about to install an air norton S in a maple fretboard strat. Going to try the 250k setup though, it seems to sound okay with a hot-rails in the bridge.
It bums me out that the camera distorts the sound. From what I can hear, it all sounds great. I particularly like the YJM. I was expecting to like the Nortons more... but good stuff man. How do you even go about installing a killswitch?
It's actually really simple. You just put a switch between the hot that's going from the vol pot to the jack, so that when you press or flip the switch it bleeds the signal off to ground.
Yes, I did. It was routed for H/S/S, so I did a sketchy routing \myself. I used a drill and a saw. It worked, but it's not very nice cosmetically. This is a MIM strat, I'm not sure what kind of routing MIA's have.
Haha, I don't get a lot of comments, so whenever I see a new one I try to respond.
If you don't care about doing a sketchy job it's not too difficult to route it yourself, but you can take it to a shop and get it done, for a bit more money. All up to you man. IF you got any questions about the schematic I can hook you up.
Okay thanks a lot. I'm also thinking about just doing an HSS setup with a PAF pro in the bridge and two True Velvets in the neck and bridge. Your videos on modes is really good by the way.
Cool choice. Was there a specific reason you went with those 3, or were you just experimenting? (I'm still struggling with what to put on a couple of old Ibanezes I have).
I originally bought a YJM and HS3 to replace in my strat, so it was still S/S/S. I really liked the YJM so I stuck it in the middle in this guitar, because it has a very warm sound. I chose the Air Norton, because it is a popular neck pickup, and the Super Distortion, because I really wanted something that could bite in the bridge. It has fairly high output, so it does that job.
Honestly, I think the best way to find out if you will like the sound is toaskpeoplethat havethemandaskquestions
Well I definetly think I'm going with a SuperDistortion on one of my Ibz Prolines on the bridge. You've got me thinking about the Air Norton...thanks for the reply! Oh, by the way, you put the YJM in the middle, where was it before? Which position sounded better?
I originally had the YJM in the neck, however, I think it sound about equal in both positions. Obviously there's a tonal difference, however, the pickup still retains its identity, it's really warm and creamy sounding.
I like the looks of your guitar. Great color combination: an all-black style with cream colored pickups which match the maple scale. It shows me personality.
I would like to listen to any composition of yours.
Your sound is very well built. I'm into DiMarzio pickups too and I plan to put an Air Zone on the bridge position of my MIM Strat. What's your Strat, by the way?
And congratulations for your guitar skills. Both the shredding and the fingering were great.
Sorry my mistake, I meant 'Neanderthal'- an unenlightened or ignorant person; barbarian; a primitive, culturally and intellectually backward individual.
thats pretty sweet man could u tell me how much your killswitch cost...i got a js 1000 and want a sustainer and kill switch and the shreddy blues thing u should have got a floyd rose
I'm about to try and put a killswitch into my strat. Any chance of a little wiring diagram of how you hooked up yours? Just a quick sketch in paint would do. Thanks.
hey man, how does that momentary kill switch work, is it just a signal cut out like a standard switch or does it require batteries? reason i ask is it sounded like it faded in and out with volume...couldve just been the recording though.
I just have a normally closed momentary switch...two prongs on it, wired one to the hot, and one to ground. so when you press it just runs the signal off to ground, killing it.
Im looking to mod my strat and you have almost exactly what i want, can i get a schematic and a relative price for this project? that would be awesome.
I got the idea to do that to a strat today. Its cool to know that other people have thought of that. Ive never seen one with two humbuckers and the single coil mass produced.

Why buy a strat if you want that kinda setup? Nothing wrong with the setup, But why buy a strat if you don't want a single coil arrangement?
matrags 2 years ago
Because...there's more to a guitar than the arrangement of pickups.
