Great to see the tradition of music teachers the world over being continued here i.e. managing to be extremely boring and completely fail to demonstrate how the technique can be used to create something wonderful. Bravo.
For sustained sound two strings can be played. Three or four can be heard as one chord, but the technique of producing the sound involves crossing the strings too rapidly to be heard as a distinct break in the sound.
Hey mister, nice lesson thanks. I just had one question, since i play guitar and not the violin. Is it possible to make three strings sound at the same time with that magicstick? (i don't know what it's called, sorry) If so, is it also possible to make 4 strings sound at the same time?
ty help full im in a band play guitar and i never play vilolin butt do understand how cord work and scales for guitar what i see hear it works the same as guitar this will help me help im
violin is easeir because your fingers dont hurt as much plus you dont have to do all that stretching to get all your fingers down for a chord. The hard part is figuring out all those mystery notes, beats and decorations that never show up on the music.
I would like to start fiddle as well, to play Irish tunes, so I will definitely be coming back to all your lessons. Thanks very much for posting so much of your knowledge here!
@Grassaoelli good afternoon sir, im very interested in violins i know many major and minor scales in the guitar and i remember their tune... if i play my scales in the violin will that be ok?...
Extra strings? That's a new one for me. No one gets extra strings when they buy a violin. Take a close look at the seller when you are on eBay. Have hey sold other violins? Do they have good feedback?
@SweetSoundOfGrace If I'm reading this right....the first one is a G chord on four strings: G D B G, the second is G E C (or C#) E--could be a C chord or an A7, the last would be G D A F (or F#) don't know what to call that one.
yes, of course you have to stay within the scale of the chord, with all its flats and sharps, it was just to encourage using all of the strings for a change. you could easily figure out other chords as well... it's fun!
so, when you talk about chords...in the guitar a chord will have the fingers placed on multiple strings. are chords on the violin played like this much/ever? it seems like violin "chords" are like plucking the notes that go into the chord played simultaneouly on the guitar.
@codylawrence100 Yes to the notes being fingered at the same time as needed. Sometimes the note is an open string. On the fiddle we count two notes as a chord, even though it's not the whole chord.
guitars cooler (Y) but violin is a very unique sound. its awesome. to find the chord chart for both violin and guitar, use the guitar chord chart. and choose the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes. theyll be the same notes on guitar and violin because its the same sounding chord. then just find the correct finger position on the violin to play the notes.
violin is definitely more difficult. The violin doesn't have frets so you don't have any guides to tell you where the notes are...you just have to practice until you know where they are. Also, there is the added challenge of having to use a bow instead of simply picking the strings. The violin is much more versatile than most guitars (except fretless guitars).
"guitar is much easier to play than violin because its so difficult to make violin sound good"
That's really only true for beginning violinists.
After you develop your ear and muscle memory, intonation runs on autopilot, so it's no harder than a guitar after that.
It's just that you have to develop those things (and keep practiced on them) with violin, and beginning guitarists have that already done for them by whomever installed their frets at the factory.

I've spent a lot of time figuring out mystery notes. Decorations or ornaments at least have stuff written about them.

@vilepium Playing scales is a good way to learn how any musical instrument works. And that includes the fiddle.

Thanks alot for your time and your effort but I think as a beginner it going to be hard!
I think your lesson is for more matured individuals, as for me (teenager) I will be easily distracted and bored easily

@seoncope Yes, this is a bit beyond the beginner level. Try it again in six months. by the way, take these videos in order if you can.

Seriously, I don't have any clue what you are explaining. I'm trying to keep up but it's just too confusing.

Be sure to start with the first video of the series and take them in order.
If the first one is confusing, I would like to know the point where it gets hard to undertand.
