Zieh doch von mir aus auf unsere Sonne, dann weist du warum ich es als unwahrscheinlich erachte, dass auf Alpha Centauri Leben war.

Meine Güte was soll das denn? Diese Diskusion das in Deutsch alles scheiße klingt ist doch Schwachsinn. Es kommt immer drauf an was man zuerst gehört hat. Ich z.B. find Two and a half men in Englisch voll scheiße, aber wahrscheinlich nur, weil ich die ersten 7 Staffeln alle auf Deutsch gesehen hab. Bei Englisch wär das wahrscheinlich genauso gewesen. PS: Star Wars ist der Hamma!
I don't get people crying about how dubbing sucks. Are you mad? No it does not. I don't want to read a movie just because I don't understand the language it was filmed in.
And most of the time the movies don't sound bad in German. There are even a few examples were the German dubbing is superior. Just think about how Arnold Schwarzenegger sounds in English. ...nah! I stick to German on that one.
I agree with DonMario, Stopped watching movies in german a long time ago. Thanks to DVD´s... The german voices always tend to be way to high! Star wars is an exception. And the Simpson! Nobert Gastell is THE BEST Homer voice ever!

And I am glad, that the guys in germany put so much work into dubbing. In Poland, for example, or Norway, they show the movies in original language. And in Poland, one guy dubbes the whole movie;) that sounds creepy!:D

Dubbing sucks. Into any language. Subs rule. This is an exception, tho. But only because the acting in Star Wars is so crappy to begin with, that the dubbers didn´t have a very hard time getting more out of it thru good voice acting. But like i said- BIG exception. There are only three movies that are as good as the American original in German dub: Full Metal Jacket, Star Wars and interestingly enough, Schindler´s List.
@EbClectic German Dubbing only sucks to those of the original language. As a German I have to say our voice actors are far superior to our actual actors. I've never seen a badly dubbed hollywood movie. Sometimes they may not be as good as the original performance, but more often then not they come close enough. And on many occasions they even save a bad movie from it's crappy original actors...Keanu Reaves mainly. But I gotta say we suck at dubbing Anime. The jap. Seyuu are unreachable.
@TheSKORPION117 there is nothing wrong with german :) that language sounds a little bit more violent than english or french or any other one, and this violence in his voice makes Darth Vader more "realistic". this is why Star Wars with german audio is especially exciting :)

@MrFerreti When they made Empire and Jedi they had the original voice actor do dubs for many countries, that actually him, Popular bands singer etc do their whole albums in many langauges, case in point Avil Lavine did her album in 10 langauges.

I studied German 7 years (high school and college) and was 10 when Star Wars came out - knew the lines by heart, and ALWAYS wanted to see it in German. But they have a different video system for VHS - is it possible to get it on DVD in German for U.S. viewing? Anyone know?
You should be able to watch a PAL movie in NTSC on a computer, just download it somewhere or see if some website offers a purchase through a download. Alternatives would be buying a german DVD and watching it on the PC, that might work, but I am not quite sure.. Once I get the time, I'll look into it.
Yes there is one way, order it from germany. than you can install for example Power DVD and say that the country is germany, and now you can watch German DVDs. Sorry if this is not soo good to understand, I´m German ;)
I´d say: if nothing else helps, just watch the PAL DVD on your computer! It plays all versions! But i know ,that watching StarWars on a 52inch plasma is way better... haha
In total, the (old) German Voice of Darth Vader is even better as the English original. Just watched Episode 4 again and I am still not impressed by James Earl Jones. He doesn´t sound as intimidating as the German one. Altogether, Star Wars in total is a perfect movie to show how a good dubbed version should sound like. Except for "So jung und schon bei den Sturmtruppen"... Even as a child I kept asking myself: How the heck can she see that through all the armor???

Die USA tragen solche Helme wieder. Sie nennen sie sogar "Fritz-Head", weil sie eine enorme Ähnlichkeit mit den deutschen Helmen des zweiten Weltkrieges haben.
James Earl Jones is the original voice and in my opinion the best, most of these other languages used filters to make them sound more to the original.
I never heard another voice of Vader. I grew up with the German, so it is normal for me. But I think, that's other languages sounds still good or even better

@StahlhandSoldatTurk Alpha Centauri ist ein Doppelsternsystem. Proxima Centauris Zugehoerigkeit ist nicht geklaert. Alpha Centauri bezeichnet NUR die Sterne, nicht die Planeten. Zieh doch von mir aus auf unsere Sonne, dann weist du warum ich es als unwahrscheinlich erachte, dass auf Alpha Centauri Leben war.

Meine Güte was soll das denn? Diese Diskusion das in Deutsch alles scheiße klingt ist doch Schwachsinn. Es kommt immer drauf an was man zuerst gehört hat. Ich z.B. find Two and a half men in Englisch voll scheiße, aber wahrscheinlich nur, weil ich die ersten 7 Staffeln alle auf Deutsch gesehen hab. Bei Englisch wär das wahrscheinlich genauso gewesen. PS: Star Wars ist der Hamma!

I don't get people crying about how dubbing sucks. Are you mad? No it does not. I don't want to read a movie just because I don't understand the language it was filmed in.
And most of the time the movies don't sound bad in German. There are even a few examples were the German dubbing is superior. Just think about how Arnold Schwarzenegger sounds in English. ...nah! I stick to German on that one.

And I am glad, that the guys in germany put so much work into dubbing. In Poland, for example, or Norway, they show the movies in original language. And in Poland, one guy dubbes the whole movie;) that sounds creepy!:D

Dubbing sucks. Into any language. Subs rule. This is an exception, tho. But only because the acting in Star Wars is so crappy to begin with, that the dubbers didn´t have a very hard time getting more out of it thru good voice acting. But like i said- BIG exception. There are only three movies that are as good as the American original in German dub: Full Metal Jacket, Star Wars and interestingly enough, Schindler´s List.

@EbClectic German Dubbing only sucks to those of the original language. As a German I have to say our voice actors are far superior to our actual actors. I've never seen a badly dubbed hollywood movie. Sometimes they may not be as good as the original performance, but more often then not they come close enough. And on many occasions they even save a bad movie from it's crappy original actors...Keanu Reaves mainly. But I gotta say we suck at dubbing Anime. The jap. Seyuu are unreachable.

2. it isn't funny to listen to other languages at all... yep I'm jealous, I just understand 4 languages..

I studied German 7 years (high school and college) and was 10 when Star Wars came out - knew the lines by heart, and ALWAYS wanted to see it in German. But they have a different video system for VHS - is it possible to get it on DVD in German for U.S. viewing? Anyone know?

I think you can buy it online on german, most of the DVDs also got language selection.
(German, English, Spanish etc)

You should be able to watch a PAL movie in NTSC on a computer, just download it somewhere or see if some website offers a purchase through a download. Alternatives would be buying a german DVD and watching it on the PC, that might work, but I am not quite sure.. Once I get the time, I'll look into it.

Yes there is one way, order it from germany. than you can install for example Power DVD and say that the country is germany, and now you can watch German DVDs. Sorry if this is not soo good to understand, I´m German ;)

I´d say: if nothing else helps, just watch the PAL DVD on your computer! It plays all versions! But i know ,that watching StarWars on a 52inch plasma is way better... haha

In total, the (old) German Voice of Darth Vader is even better as the English original. Just watched Episode 4 again and I am still not impressed by James Earl Jones. He doesn´t sound as intimidating as the German one. Altogether, Star Wars in total is a perfect movie to show how a good dubbed version should sound like. Except for "So jung und schon bei den Sturmtruppen"... Even as a child I kept asking myself: How the heck can she see that through all the armor???

It's really not that funny when your sober but its just that im used to hearing a certain tone and way he talks.
When I first saw it i laughed because it all sounds like gibberish to me as i can't understand German.
Im sure Germans who can't understand English may laugh when hearing someone sing a traditional german song in english haha.

Soweit ich weiß, wurde Darth Vaders Helm (zumindest auch) von den Kopfbedeckungen der japanischem Samurai inspiriert.

As far as I know, Darth Vaders helmet was inspired (at least also) by the helmets of the Japanese Samurai.

Ich hab mal irgendwo gelesen er basiert Gasmaske aus dem ersten Weltkrieg (sogar dass es wirklich eine war). Aber ich weiß nicht, ob das stimmt.
I've read that the helmet is based on a german gas mask from WWI (even that it actually were one). But I don't know if that's correct.

Warum glauben eigentlich alle, das Imperium soll Nazi- Deutschland darstellen? Jedes totalitäre System ist gleich und das Imperium ist ein Paradebeispiel eines solchen.
Wenn überhaupt, dann ist das Imperium eine anspielung auf das totalitäre Regime der englischen Taxifahrer, denn die Imparialen uniformen sind alte Taxi uniformen aus England^^

Nein, unsere Soldaten tragen nciht solche Helme, sie haben nach dem ersten Weltkrieg nie mehr solche Helme getragen und sie werden auch in Zukunft niemals solche Helme tragen.

Die USA tragen solche Helme wieder. Sie nennen sie sogar "Fritz-Head", weil sie eine enorme Ähnlichkeit mit den deutschen Helmen des zweiten Weltkrieges haben.

James Earl Jones is the original voice and in my opinion the best, most of these other languages used filters to make them sound more to the original.

I never heard another voice of Vader. I grew up with the German, so it is normal for me. But I think, that's other languages sounds still good or even better
