  • my mom used to always put this on for me as a kid when I was sick. and here i am now, 22 and sick as a dog in bed and loving this as much as i did more than 15 years ago. thanks for uploading!

  • watching this now for the first time :) Just finished A Shine of Rainbows and I loved it, when i googled "similiar movies" this came up, looks good! I want to move to Ireland so bad ;)

  • just watched this again tonight, haven't seen it in a couple of years but i forgot how much i love it, and, like every person has previously stated, you WILL want to live on the irish coast after seeing this film

the one thing i am curious about though is what happened to jeni courtney, the little girl. i tried searching her everywhere on the internet and nothing. i bet if she had continued acting she would have become very talented, but if she's doing something she enjoys, then even better!

  • the sea has filled my senses ever since i first saw this, wen i was a young lad. im an american but im irish by roots. and the sea calls too me.

  • the first time i saw this movie i fell in love with it . im now 12 and still cant get enough of the story and i love folk lore and the concepte of selkies

  • I remember watching this with my mom when I little!!

:D i was hoping someone got it on here :) Thank u!! :]

  • Mick Lally R.I.P. He's great as the grandfather.

  • i swear i read a book once that this movie was based off of :) great book and great movie too

  • Amen! and Thank You.

  • i want to live in a cottage on an island in ireland now

  • i remember watching this for the first time like one or two years ago and ever since I was trying to find the movie and i found it and got really excited and happy

  • When my son was very young, he loved this movie. When he was 5 his sister was born and he named her Fiona.

  • Happy St. Patrick's Day!! I love this movie!! <3

  • such a beautiful movie

  • Anyone understand what this movie is about?

  • @Tempe1962 it's about a family's history, irish culture, and finding the lost baby brother.

  • @AnimeLover12321 Not helpful.

  • @Tempe1962 Well, what part don't you understand?

  • @AnimeLover12321 Its so complicated I cant even say and now thats its been awhile I cant remember the movie clearly. The whole movie is confusing and whats with the kid floating in the boat? How does he relate to the girl? Is he the baby that was sent off in boat by the couple in the beginning? And why did they do that?At the end he seems to be her lost brother but that doesnt make sense. Dont even know how her brother got lost.I hate movies that confuse me.Its no pleasure to watch them.

  • @Tempe1962 You my want to re watch it, because some your facts are off. The "kid floating in the boat" is Fiona's little brother Jamie. He was the child who was lost in the beginning, but his parents didn't sent him off. They were distracted by seagulls as it's implied the local seals pulled him out to sea. They tried to row after him, but there was a storm coming and they couldn't catch up. The seals took the baby because they didn't want the humans to leave the island. ...

  • @Tempe1962 ... It's said that that family is descendant of a selkie, a half human half seal creature from Irish legend. They all left the island when Fiona's mother died and jobs opened up in city. Fiona lived there for a while, but wasn't happy so she moved in with her grandparents who lived close to their old home. Most of the movie is about Fiona learning about her ancestors and finding her brother and learning how the two stories merge. ...

  • @Tempe1962 ...When she learns her grandparents are being evicted from their house she and her cousin repair all the houses on Roan Inish (seal island) and convince their grandmother that Jamie is still alive. When they move back in the seals return her brother.

  • @Tempe1962 There was a couple in the beginning who put a baby in a cradle and sent it off. What has that got to do with her lost brother. She wasnt related to that couple and their baby.Too confusing for me and watching a 3rd time wont help.

  • I love it...

  • I like the little girl. She's a sweetheart.

  • Nice movie. I love anything thats filmed in the most beautiful place on the face of the earth: IRELAND!!

  • nice movie thanks

  • Thank you for posting this, I remember it from my childhood <3

  • This is my favorite movie of all time. ^__^

I really wish there were more wonderful movies about selkies. <3

  • @Ainurah The Seventh Stream and that recent movie Ondine are also about selkies. I haven't seen either though, so I can't tell you how good they are.

  • @Ainurah Cartoon Saloon, the studio behind 'The Secret of Kells,' is working on one right now, called 'Song of the Sea.' There's a teaser trailer for it somewhere on youtube :)

  • one person has yet to find the secret to roan inish

  • I love this movie.

  • I went to Ireland for two weeks this past summer for study abroad. We stayed a night at one of the Aran Islands. I loved this movie since I was a child and now it makes me think of my trip. I wish I could go back so badly. It truly is a magical place.

  • I love this film... I just love it, reminds me of scottish places near the sea. where I grew up. I know it's Irish but it's similar.

  • @Rowan07001484 I agree. I would love to see both Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. Whales and England as well for that matter. Im American but im of British/ Irish decent and would love to see the land where my anchesty came from. I have alot of respect for British and Irish people.

  • @destroyer8604 well if you want to go to ireland it looks a lot like america you have to go to the country side for what your thinking of and i went to st andrews in scotland and most of the highlands it is very beautiful

  • @bernbar My Aunt went to Scotland to spend the day up there. And she brought me a little cute Teddy Bear that has a blue shirt and it has the name of Scotland on it. I slept with it every night to keep me calm while I was sleeping. How my throat feeling yucky while I was trying to sleep.

  • Thanks for posting this. I needed to watch this movie again for my homework... and I also think it's great. Thanks!

  • Does the person who put this up own the movie?

  • Do you own this movie?

  • favorite line, "you'd like that, living with the old people" hahaahah this is a great movie but like...really?

  • If you like this, you'll probably also enjoy "Waking Ned Devine"-- also Irish and fabulous music and story!!

  • This is my favorite movie. Fiona is just a darling child and the other characters are gems. The whole movie is quaint, wholesome, rich in culture and family values. It really makes the audience want to be there and spend the rest of their lives being neighbors to these wonder people. I tell people all the time about this movie and where they can go to buy it. Now, I've sent all my email contacts the You Tube link in hopes that they will want it themselves. TWO THUMBS UP!

  • At our local Target, we sell it for $5-- I buy extra copies sometimes to give away-- I love it so much!! I swear I must have seen it 50+ times and love it now as much as ever. It's my all-time favorite film!!

  • the music is sooo nice :)

  • After watching this, you all want to live in a cottage, on an island.

The sea will fill your senses, till there is room for nothing more.

Then go watch "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and you'll want to be haunted at the same time.

  • Surely you can't mean the old TV series-- do you mean some modern film based on that? I'm having trouble locating something recent.

  • I'm referring to the movie with Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney, 1947.

  • @dkerris i lived on a cottage on an island until the sea filled my senses.. kind of drove me mad! And i was haunted too ;) You get some kind of 'cabin fever' after a while.

  • @dkerris im a little irish

  • @dkerris yup! thumbs up! i agree!... actually, even before watching this, i've really wanted to live in a cottage on an island where you can see, experience and enjoy the beauty of nature and away from pollution... hehehe... i also have the interest for paranormal stuffs (and fantasy too ei. mermaids, fairies selkies)... hehehe.. ^_^ call me crazy... but i really am!..... hehehe....

  • @dkerris The ghost and mrs muir is an awesome movie!
