  • me fav DP song of all time!

  • On the drums, Iannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Paicccccccccccccccccccccce!!!!

  • LIVE----one of purples best and most original songs----everyones playing flat out!

  • 5*****

  • Ian Paice is freakin Drum Royalty !!

  • This is whats it´s all about, Ian behind the drums is just a powerhouse!!

  • Indeed! The drumsolo in 'The Unwritten Law' is one of the most powerful and best Ian ever did in my opinion. A shame, they shelved this song, but even for Blackmore, the guitarwork was apparently difficult, and it took it's toll on Ian's voice, kind of like the same with 'Gipsys Kiss' from the 'Perfect Strangers' tour.

  • I was there in Helsinki, so nice to see it on the tube...

  • ....only 'Dead Or Alive' was played each night in 1988, and 'Hard Lovin Woman' was only played now and then. In 1991, no songs from the album was performed, with JLT, and not during the third MK.II reunion in 1993, or ever since. Though, the intro for 'Bad Attitude' was played as the intro to 'Perfect Strangers' at one of the 1994 shows with Satriani.

  • The band themselfs being "embaressed" about it, is shown when they removed more and more songs from it from their setlists in 1987-88. 'Call Of The Wild' was played as encore at the first 8 or 9 shows or something, before being dropped. 'Bad Attitude' was played every night until the middle of the tour, when they only did it occationa after that. 'Mad Dog' was played only once. In 1988, 'The Unwritten Law' was gone from the set, as well as 'Bad Attitude'. Only 'Dead Or Alive' was played...

  • House of Blue Light is, to my mind, an awesome album. Really can't understand why the band themselves are so quick to dismiss it.

  • I think one of the reasons were because they weren't recording it as a group effort It was Gillan, Glover and Paice recording some parts one day, Blackmore, Lord and Glover another day etc. Ian Paice has described the album as a real downride after the success of 'Perfect Strangers'. Gillan has said there are some good songs on it, like 'Dead Or Alive', 'Strangeways' and 'Black & White'. Ritchie liked it when it came out, he thought they had done a good album.

  • This has to be THE most powerful song off the album, and certainly one of the best. Why the hell did they drop it from the set in 1988??? Most fans like this album...

  • the stage setup is strange, with these closed, flat walls around them^^ but stunning great performance! this was the first show after a short break in the tour, so the weren't bored at all!

All of them didn't tink HOBL was a good effort, and they dropped its songs really fast. maybe bad memories of it's sessions which are said to have been difficult? sad that they do not revive some of its songs today, they play songs from all other albums gillan was involved in...

  • Indeed a strange stage setup, but the lighting and projection is pretty cool. Ian's drumsolo is amazing during this song. Theb and was getting along fine it seems in 1987, but 1988 wasn't so good. I would love se see the band perform a number off this album in present time. 'Bad Attitude' perhaps. Steve Morse said in an interview that he would love to try that one out. Not even the band's 1991 stint with Joe Lynn Turner did any songs off this era. I love the album, though some songs are dated.

  • Thanks. Killer tour in my opinion.

  • Indeed! The 1987 leg of the 'House Of Blue Light' tour was great. In 1988 Ritchie was getting bored sort of, the playing wasn't so good anymore, plus most of the 'HOBL' songs had been dropped from the set, except 'Dead Or Alive' and occationally performed 'Hard Lovin Woman'. They ressurected 'Hush' though wich was great, but the set was much shorter than in 1987.

  • Awesome!

    ★★★★★

    Thanks!

  • Takker! :)

  • A shame no pro-shot videos of any of the 1987-88 shows exsists. The stage, effects etc. looks much better than in 1984-85, 1991 and 1993.

  • Fantastic song off the 1987 'House Of Blue Light' album, about sexual diseases. :)
