Wait, I'm confused, did Gilgamesh kill Odin, or did he just take his sword when he died? I always thought Gilgamesh tossed his sword at Odin and sliced him to save Siefer.
I was lucky to have a guide book on this game and when part about this fight says "Odin will appear at the begining of the battle if you took the time to find this semi-GF earlier. don't get too confident tho, Seifer has a nasty superise instored for Odin." and I was wondering what it was, then when this happened, It was unexpected to see Odin's own move used against him.
when this happened of course like all of you i was happy as fucking hell Odin, but probably unlike most of you when Odin got shitted on by Seifer i took the disc out and in my blind rage, snap that shit in half (i was 8 at the time). couple years later i bought (stole) ff8 again and decided to redo it all, when gilgamesh came out and saved my ass, i was so fucking happy and mad that i actually would've won if i just kept my cool, lol
I remember when I first played this, I put the controller down once I saw the clouds and rain thinking Seifer was dead. Then my jaw dropped as Odin died instead.

And 0:18 sure as fuck doesnt mean REVERSE ZANTETSUKEN. It probably means " You're fucked/ You got fucked on/I have bigger balls than you"
@Geoxile Oi, if you really want to *Keep* Odin, just don't get him yet. When you finish that fight & the time you finally are free to roam on your own -- you can get odin. Though that is like, waiting for a while. Just thought I should let you know, if you really wanted to keep Odin & not get Gilgamesh.
Why in every FF game that odin exists has to die, or to desapear in some way? The most recent thing I can recal is in FF6 where you get his Magicite and something happens later and you lose it...
@SwordSkill2 In Final Fantasy IX he's used once in a cutscene and then vanishes just like a regular summon (most likely returning to the Dark Matter that was used to summon him) after an attack.
@LegendFightX The battle simply continues as it would be with every other battle in the game.. Only you might have a hard time defeating Seifer since he'll use his Limit Break "BloodFest" when he's near death. Also this is the only way to get Gilgamesh in this game, but aparently.. Gil sucks if you compare him to Odin cause his attacks might miss...
So it's up to you to decide if you don't want to have a hard time defeating a boss (Seifer) or to keep your strong 'Summon'.

@LegendFightX Odin come randomly if you get Odin before Seifer fights so you can't summon Odin. If you don't have Odin, he will still come against Seifer.
Btw you guys while you fought Seifer I did zero damage to him i just draw his magics "AURA", at a certain time Gilgamesh will appear (you don't need to fight you just wait ^^)
@LegendFightX My bad it's been a long time since I played FF8. I thought it was like that but its not. Actually you can have Odin in disc 4 instead of Gilgamesh. Simply Dont get Odin on disc 3 (before the fight against Seifer). If you want to get odin in disc 4 while fighting seifer you just have to defeat him. In disc 4 there are 3 gates that allow you tu go back to the worldmap i think its the middle gate. Go into Odin's place and get him from there..
Seifer will always rule. If only they had him break the sorceress' spell and become a good guy in the end. I hope they bring Seifer back somehow. In another game or something. There's always hope.

The writing says Zantetsuken or "iron cutting sword" which is Odin's attack. The last one added means "reverse" because Odin got cut instead of his opponent.
So Zantetsuken/iron cutting sword reverse or return.
Isn't it also an attack in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, or RE:CoM? If I remember correctly, this technique nullifies a card from the opponent and makes it useless for the rest of the battle (In KH)
It's all been so long for me but I loved to find out that Edea was the wife of Cid in FFVIII. But what was Edea's connection again with Ultimecia and the idea behind it?
Yes Edea is the wife of Cid, and it was her idea to come up with the seeD concept. That why Cid created Balamb GARDEN, knowing that he would have to fight his wife. Her connection to Ultimecia was that, after Squall defeats Ultimecia, right before she dies she gives her powers to Edea.
It's like a never ending cycle.If you beat the game spoiler........ before Squall goes back to the present he and Ultimecia are at the orphanage in the past were she gives her powers up to Edea before her death. And Squall tells Matron(Edea) about seeD and this is how the cycle of times continues....it quite complicated but hope this helps.
yeah im sayin that also but they said he would be too much like squall which was a fail on thier part but they do reffer to siefer in dissidia by squall fighting one handed like him instead of two handed
@XZoneCiderpowered So true... However they put a HELL LOT of similarity to Squall's battle style to seem something like a combination between Seifer's and Squall's... I mean since Squall wields the Revolver one handed in Dissdia but in main game he barely could handle it with both hands...

Well don't expect a DLC of any character that has already a DLC without having the non-DLC characters get one anytime soon... As for the voice data.. I might have to disappoint you, but the DLC can only provide music and Costumes, so whatever sound effect outside of music session is what you only hear. It's really pity that the only appearance Seifer made outside of FF8 was in KH2 with more or less sucked since he was the first boss of the game. Not only he is much younger than Sq but was also a
@SwordSkill2 not to worry, better I know that voice data's an impossibility now than later. shame, it could've been particularly cool for Shuyin. and don't get me wrong, I want the non-DLC characters to get theirs first (Kefka, Ulty, and Golbez DLC plz) before any more popular characters get a second one. but I am expecting second DLC outfits for certain characters. XIII-2 Lightning being an obvious example.

@noasdsaatana Being swept away by a tornado isn't same as being killed... Not even defeated, although Squall and Co gain the Win at this one.. At any rate, I'm glad they put Gilgamesh in, he's awesome! XD! And I'm able to perform his Ultimate Illusion FF12 Ex-burst almost every single time XD!
@SwordSkill2 he was defeated...tornado IS a high ranking spell.....and i think being swept away by tornado is enough to kill just about anybody....but anyway gilgamesh is good but somehow since my first impression of him was from ff8 i would have though him to be more serious charater....still he is ok.....
@noasdsaatana I guess someone didn't see that ending scene of FF8... Not only Seifer wasn't killed, but he also was trying to catch Pokemon fish with a Pokeball like Rod along with Fujin and Raijin. Also Gilgamesh didn't use tornado. he used Aera, His trademark Wind move from FF5 which I can't understand why did they changed the name in Dissidia.. Maybe for the same reason they changed Maduin to Madeen in FF9.. Translation error as usual. Gilgamesh makes a minor reference to Butz in FF8 btw.....
And yeah you are right... He was killed by Aera... That's why he doesn't give Rinoa to Adel and you get to fight Adel alone without Rinoa Junctioned onto her... AND THEN YOU WOKE UP, you seriously need to replay the game (If you already have.) and refresh your memory a bit.
Another option is to cut off the weed cause it just ruins you man...
What I don't get is that Seifer's all, "I'm gonna scar you again!" But the funny thing is, Squall could do the same, just as before. This is funny, I never got Odin.
Man, I'm on the fence about FFVIII but the more I think about it the more I realise that, the rest of the game aside, Seifer is a badass. He's a really interesting, well-developed character, it's too bad Edea and Ultimecia keep him down to second banana the whole game.
Agreed. My biggest complaint with FFVIII was that Ultimecia was the most stereotypical and ill-defined villain the series ever had. You know, "Mwahahahaha, I want to take over the world!" There was a theory going around for a while that Rinoa was Ultimecia--and it had A LOT of evidence to support it--but it has since been disproven. That was an epic dissapointment for me. One of the simplest villains was on the verge of becoming one of the most complex...but no.
No... Basically if you watch closely Odin deos this to every enemy, Seifer used a barrier or something like that just a sec before he takes the damage... It is official from SquuareSoft that Seifer has the ability Anti-Zantetsuken

The writing says Zantetsuken or "iron cutting sword" which is Odin's attack. The last one added means "reverse" because Odin got cut instead of his opponent.
So Zantetsuken/iron cutting sword reverse or return.

Isn't it also an attack in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, or RE:CoM? If I remember correctly, this technique nullifies a card from the opponent and makes it useless for the rest of the battle (In KH)

It's all been so long for me but I loved to find out that Edea was the wife of Cid in FFVIII. But what was Edea's connection again with Ultimecia and the idea behind it?

Yes Edea is the wife of Cid, and it was her idea to come up with the seeD concept. That why Cid created Balamb GARDEN, knowing that he would have to fight his wife. Her connection to Ultimecia was that, after Squall defeats Ultimecia, right before she dies she gives her powers to Edea.

It's like a never ending cycle.If you beat the game spoiler........ before Squall goes back to the present he and Ultimecia are at the orphanage in the past were she gives her powers up to Edea before her death. And Squall tells Matron(Edea) about seeD and this is how the cycle of times continues....it quite complicated but hope this helps.

@XZoneCiderpowered So true... However they put a HELL LOT of similarity to Squall's battle style to seem something like a combination between Seifer's and Squall's... I mean since Squall wields the Revolver one handed in Dissdia but in main game he barely could handle it with both hands...

what would be epic imo would be if they made it a little more expensive but added in some voice data... I'm sure it would make alot of fans very happy if they also did that for Shuyin/Zack... but this is pure conjecture on my part as I somehow doubt SE would go to such effort XD

Well don't expect a DLC of any character that has already a DLC without having the non-DLC characters get one anytime soon... As for the voice data.. I might have to disappoint you, but the DLC can only provide music and Costumes, so whatever sound effect outside of music session is what you only hear. It's really pity that the only appearance Seifer made outside of FF8 was in KH2 with more or less sucked since he was the first boss of the game. Not only he is much younger than Sq but was also a

@SwordSkill2 not to worry, better I know that voice data's an impossibility now than later. shame, it could've been particularly cool for Shuyin. and don't get me wrong, I want the non-DLC characters to get theirs first (Kefka, Ulty, and Golbez DLC plz) before any more popular characters get a second one. but I am expecting second DLC outfits for certain characters. XIII-2 Lightning being an obvious example.
and yes, sadly Seifer in KH2 made KH Selphie look threatening... :(

But you know what? The main reason that they didn't put Seifer in is because Square-Enix wouldn't be so idiotic to put a guy WHO CAN KILL A NORSE GOD IN DISSIDIA!!! That would be HELL OF UNBALANCE!!!
It would be like putting a from Yugioh with it's Attack and Defense to Magic the Gathering which has single digit

I mean they let a certain flare spamming troll in who can destroy the solar system with the power of maths...

@XZoneCiderpowered You have a point on what according Sephiroth, anyway, I too believe that Aizen's death was a bit... Quick.. Everyone expected it to be much more bigger when Ichigo and Aizen met.. And so far no anime (With few exceptions.) as ever let the "final boss" if we can consider him as one, be beaten in only one and a half episodes...
By the way, do you know if what we are currently watching with Nozomi and the evil Scientist who looks like Cid from FF6 are Fillers or actual episodes?

@SwordSkill2 he was defeated...tornado IS a high ranking spell.....and i think being swept away by tornado is enough to kill just about anybody....but anyway gilgamesh is good but somehow since my first impression of him was from ff8 i would have though him to be more serious charater....still he is ok.....

@noasdsaatana I guess someone didn't see that ending scene of FF8... Not only Seifer wasn't killed, but he also was trying to catch Pokemon fish with a Pokeball like Rod along with Fujin and Raijin. Also Gilgamesh didn't use tornado. he used Aera, His trademark Wind move from FF5 which I can't understand why did they changed the name in Dissidia.. Maybe for the same reason they changed Maduin to Madeen in FF9.. Translation error as usual. Gilgamesh makes a minor reference to Butz in FF8 btw.....

And yeah you are right... He was killed by Aera... That's why he doesn't give Rinoa to Adel and you get to fight Adel alone without Rinoa Junctioned onto her... AND THEN YOU WOKE UP, you seriously need to replay the game (If you already have.) and refresh your memory a bit.
Another option is to cut off the weed cause it just ruins you man...

Man, I'm on the fence about FFVIII but the more I think about it the more I realise that, the rest of the game aside, Seifer is a badass. He's a really interesting, well-developed character, it's too bad Edea and Ultimecia keep him down to second banana the whole game.

Agreed. My biggest complaint with FFVIII was that Ultimecia was the most stereotypical and ill-defined villain the series ever had. You know, "Mwahahahaha, I want to take over the world!" There was a theory going around for a while that Rinoa was Ultimecia--and it had A LOT of evidence to support it--but it has since been disproven. That was an epic dissapointment for me. One of the simplest villains was on the verge of becoming one of the most complex...but no.
