The point is that they are electrified. With approx 6000 volts (but low amps for safety) It gives them a hell of a whallop and is effective. If not electrified, they would just skip through it.
We run 6Kv fences to keep horses at bay, when we first put them up my boss bet me £10 I wouldn't touch it...suffice to say I got my £10 once I finally got enough feeling back in my legs to stand

2 wires wont keep any creeter out , i just installed four on mine and all them critters are gone!
