  • im glad you said. If you don't know what an arpegio is its this? and then you played a sample. An arpegio is the indiviedual notes of a chord played in succession as in a scale. Like A C major arpegio is C E G. That would be a 3 note arpegio, A six note arpegio is a C E G C E G. and so on so on. A drum beat is not an arpegio. Good review otherwise. Thanks for the comparative. Youtube needs more videos like this. Im playing on picking up a Motif.

  • Hi Chaos!

what are those table top monitor stands you are using?

    Thanks ahead!

  • great tutorial very useful information your a king. do another one on how to connect the whole set up with the interface and the Avalon 737sp please?

  • I have all three!

  • U say u don't need the keyboards cuz they take up space yet u still need a keyboard in order to use the racks lol.

  • @Dadee3 yup.... thats what i said in the video... glad you were paying attention :)

  • THANKS DUDE!! I liked the way u explained Merz and BMW

  • Can I use the Rack also for Logic ?

  • @KoRnithemasterr yes you can. you can use any instrument in any software. you just need an interface

  • If you ever bump your head 1 day & decide that you don't want that Avalon vt-737sp anymore, LET ME KNOW!!!! lolol

  • DUDE THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING VIDEO. YOU HAVE SAID A MOUTH FULL

OF GOOD TIPS AND ITS APPRECIAITE MAN . I HAVE PROTOOLS 8 SO THAT IDEA ABOUT GETTING THE RACK IS GONNA SAVE ME SO MUCH MORE MONEY THAN BUYING A BETTER BOARD AND MORE PLUG INS......

    gOOD LOOK!!!

  • Motif XS7 and this is the best for me

  • i have the motif 8, two motif racks, the motif xs7 and the motif xf8 and the yamaha ex5 for me the best is the first motif8 for live and the xf8 for studio

  • Install this security thing. LOL mac rulz

  • You have an avalon... u better be makin some monster tracks.

  • If you're comparing workstations you should check out our StudioBLADE keyboard workstation. Its built around a Windows 7 PC and can do more than any other workstation for less money. Our keyboards have up to 10 inputs for instruments, vocals or any other audio source, support for 2 additional monitors, and can be expanded with any Windows compatible software or plug-ins. Not to mention the ability to customize your control surface to work the way YOU want. Check out the videos on our channel!

  • @musiccomputing Windows pc based daws suck big time. save ur cash and get a Mac please.

  • @MACKGORDONJR - Well there's also a MacBook / PowerMac keyboard production station dock that can be used if you don't like Windows.

  • big thanks for comparison!

  • The motif is the winner.. I own the yamaha and the roland, and played the triton.. IMO the XS wins :)

  • @ikkejick I only use the motif for the bass other than that you expand your fantom with the srx cards and it's hot. stop being cheap and upgrade to a v synth, or kronos board. Thats, AP, and Open arch technology. It's a major difference once you step up to these flagship boards. And I sequence with the MPC a much better way than the protools. I use protools for vocals only. Lazy producers use that thin sounding software cause they don't kow what they r doing and r looking for the cheap way out.

  • I appreciate you video.... some of the comments others have made are totally uncalled for! It is like you said.... Your opinion.... Your video has been a part of helping me make up my mind on which way I want to go. I've have the opportunity to purchase whatever I want, and some of your comments have been quite helpful! Take care!

  • @Lakeside54321 glad i can help you.

  • Yamaha all the way.

  • You can search by category in Triton in Combi and Program mode, by clicking on that rectangle box on top. and turn off "auto arpegiator" in Global mode.

  • No man press the actual category rectangle located at the top center of the "combi" and "prog" screens this will display strings, brass, woodwinds, and even drums. No doubt Timbo and all famous producers use multiple boards but for the majority of his career his main piece was the Triton Studio

  • Here's why you get no credibility in my eyes. In the Triton Extreme you said its hard to find an instrument you want. You pointed out the category button all you have to do is press that and all the instruments in that category will show up. You obviously havent even learned your equipment! 2nd the drums in the Triton are ridiculous Timbaland and Pharrell's main board is the Extreme and enough said!

  • @nodnarb3187 yes all you have to do is hit the button then the categories come up, but theres 2 different categories, you have comb and prog... both have different instruments... theres no drum kits in programs only hits. normal keyboards have it categorized nicely. doesnt mean its a bad board tho, just means more work. Timbaland actually uses all different boards... not just the triton.. right now he uses one called Neko. youtube timbaland in the studio.. you dont even see a triton

  • @IphoneChaos you're completely wrong... the combinations are what they say they are, combinations of sounds but the programs are the sounds themselves... i mean, how can you not work that out, you can hear the difference??? there are hundreds of drum kits in programs, what are you going on about??? they are grouped into kits; most producers wouldnt want drum loops but would want to write it themselves, hence the reason they're one sample sounds

  • @IphoneChaos For the Trition all you have to do is hit the sequence button then on the touch screen choose drums catagory # 15 and all of the drums all listed. Also if you haven't figured it out by now you can turn of the arpeggiator in the settings. Your right about that it's annoying and that was the first thing I turned off. I'm shopping for a motif rack now to add to my gear.

  • @j2smooth30 yea to turn it all off its in global settings. huge pain. i got the korg M3, its a huge improvement over the triton!

the motif is a great piece of gear, your gonna love it. make sure you get the XS not the ES

  • Just one question since you said you dont need your triton extreme do you plan on selling it?

  • Thanks, that was a really helpful video it answered many of my questions without even asking!!!!!!!! GOOD VIDEO!!!!!!AWESOME

  • hey did ur motif xs come with a software?

  • @detox85 no, you dont need any software for the XS. just plug it into a synth and play.

  • thats whats up i love the motif...thinking about getting the xs board....

  • Wow where did you get those racks for that price??

  • @SBFKLICK eBay..... 620 for fantom and 850 for motif, I got lots of my gear on ebay. atleast 85% of it

  • 4:13 get an mpc an can hook EVERYTHING up into 1 sequencer and switch devices by just turning 1 or 2 nobs. invest in an mpc ant c how gud it is. plus an mpc has thousands of drums and sets preloaded on it, since i c u like ur drumkits

  • @lilwaltdh thanks bro, somebody actually did tell me that MPC's can do that. I considered getting one but honestly its not really a problem switching back and forth. all i do is go behind the racks and switch 3 wires, takes 5 seconds... i might get an MPC anyways just for the sounds.

  • I must add... between my s90 and triton, if one caught fire I prefer to have to replace the triton. The 90 has the most beautiful sound quality I've ever heard. The triton is operating on a 16bit level so that is fine for more synthetic feel (which i use for that), but It does not deliver realistic acoustic feel. And the piano? I still can't believe my 90 is a keyboard and I've owned this beauty for over 5 years now. True confessions, I've kissed it good night a few times.

  • I use the S90ES in and Triton Extreme for all my work exclusively. I midi them together and don't even turn on the computer until the entire composition (excepting the vocals) is done and ready for master. The Triton plays the 90 and the 90 plays the triton. It's a beautiful marriage that has allowed me to produce everything from Country to Hip-Hop to Electronica, etc. over the last 6 years. I will say this, the triton is buggy and has it's weaknesses, but the the advantages far outweight them.

  • @JustSignOut really? i'm surprised... the triton is known for being solid... it is buggy with its memory cards i will say that, but the os upgrade usually clears that

  • I also have the Fantom XR

    (some demos on my channel)

  • Nice video. But i think it would be great if you compared the xs with the latest flagship of korg and roland. The M3 and Fantom G :-P

  • @idleminds1 i did check out the M3, i liked it but the guy at the store told me theres no point of getting it if you have a triton already. i guess he meant they are very similar

  • I disliked the same things on the Triton as you did so I returned it. The Triton is an excellent board, but it wasn't for me. I still can't believe Korg has a sound disorganization problem after all these years.

  • @TomZentra i dont think it has a sound system problem at all.... it's grouped into pianos, basses, guitars, synths etc... i mean, what part of that dont you understand?

  • Dude, I mostly have to agree with you. I have owned the X6, Motif 6 and the Extreme 76 keyboards. I too have replaced the X6 and the Motif(now the ES 6) with the rack modules. I kept the Triton as the main board for both of those 2 rack modules. I did add the MOSS board so that is a nice addition. For the "old school" sounds, I own a Juno 60 and Jupiter 6 boards. The only real difference is that I midi the ES rack to the Kurzweil K2600XS I own as the main piano board. BTW...these R my opinons :)

  • @caddood juno and jupiter are bad ass boards, never messed with them but i heard what they can do.

  • lol...dude...all u have to do is press the little arrow to the left of the name of the sound....then everything is catagories and u can switch between only drum sound.....u can turn off the AUTO ARP on the GLOBAL SETTINGS so it wont always turn on....learn ur stuff before u review and give those type of comments

  • @LFOBeats Lol yea your right but the drum kits they categorize are the basic ones like standard kit, standard kit 2 and rock kit.... All the good ones like the hip hop don't show up in there you have to Find them yourself then manually do it. Even when you catergorize the other sounds like piano and organs... They still don't give you all the sounds.

  • @IphoneChaos....lol...wrong again buddy....keep scrolling to the right and you will see the rest of the drum kits...they are all available whichever way u decide youd like to browse......you really think Korg would over look somethin like that?...dont make me post a video reply proving u wrong..haha...i kid...i kid..

  • @LFOBeats Did you get yours used? All my kits are the basic ones. Standard kit 1, standard kit 2 orkestra kit. Only way the hip hop ones get put in that catergory is if I manually put them there. And the kits that already exist in the drum catergory suck. I never used them. Either way man I been using the motif and the sounds on that are way better then korg, korg needs to make major improvements

  • @IphoneChaos lol...ok...i posted up a video reply now so u should see what I'm sayin....and i got my Triton Extreme new Brand Spankin New from GC. My fantom X6 was used....I actually found someone on Craigslist who traded me the Keyboard for the Rack...haha....I thought it was too good to be true...I hated that rack...but it works for some people

  • @LFOBeats yea, you're right, it took me 6 months to learn the triton inside out... cant believe people just comment on here without knowing their kit

  • @slapmyfunkybass i know the kit, its not a bad machine, just unorganized. if you like starting up your machine, going to the global menu, turning off the arpeggio then thats fine, i dont.

  • @IphoneChaos i have to confess and say it took me a while to get my head round the way korg group their sounds... your best bet is not using the banks at all and just going into the programs from the menu and selecting a group of sounds (ie. piano, basses, strings etc)

  • @IphoneChaos why dont you just save your global settings. Duhhhhh1111 DID YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU WERE BUYINGONG. MY 4 YEAR OLD KNEW THAT OUT OF THE BOX

  • @slapmyfunkybass YOU USE ONE YOU USE THEM ALL. tHEY ALL COME WITH THE SAME PRESETS JUST ABOUT OUT OF THE BOX. tHE ROLAND CAN BE EXPANDED A LOT MORE, AND THE MOTIF EXPANSIONS SUCK. THE TRITON IS A VERY OLD BOARD. i GOT MY FIRST TRITON IN 1997, AND BEFORE THAT I HAD A TRINITY, AND BEFORE I HAD A T3, AND A N364 ALL KORG BOARDS. I also had a roland xp 60.

  • Nice vid Brother! My set up is similar and Im just starting out, have Motif and korg m3 and using protools! My question is what is that iLock wave you recommend? What is it for and how much $? Thanks Bro!

  • @musze3000 The ilok is like a "USB" but only used for waves. Waves are plugins you can throw on each track or the master. I use the platinum edition and I'm considering the V series. For you if you are just producing you can get away with the platinum. I also record vocals so that's why I'm looking at the v series.... If you do both and you have some spare change get the mercury. Those plugins will make your quality amazing.

  • Your problem with the triton is a easy fix.If you wanna get a catorgarized selection of instruments tab the little tab that says catogory and you will get it.thought you would have figured that

  • @dnlfacundo nice, i heard of that method but i never tried it. i will do it tho, if i have any question i might have to get back at you. thanks for the help

  • motif xs is te best :)

  • mac rule

  • @widerule1000 what.... as in why?

  • @slapmyfunkybass I don't remember

  • what software is that on your mac? protools?

  • @EmceeGeek Yea thats pro tools.

  • Nice video, could you make another one where you play some of your favourite sounds ?
