This jam was made for Blackmore. He pays extremely difficult pieces and is a technical genius on the axe. Satriani does and excellent job. T. Bolin, I totally dig his work but this solo here is probably not the best representation of that. He did more in his young life than most do in an entire lifetime. Had he been allowed to grow older with his axe, EVERYONE would be talking about him (more than they already do)! He wrote some really awesome stuff. I am still sad he is not here. Sweet style!

Blackmore; because his is the most natural sounding and made it feel like he had time in his grasp (like Dr WHO)

Tommy ; for creative interpretation and his unique improvisational ability(great given very short prep/rehearsal time)

Morse; flawless playing however awesome rhythm section backing also made it easier for him to sound great, maybe a bit too technically tight.

Satriani; a failure due to lack of subtlety and feel in phrasing.

2. Blackmore - I have to give him credit for being such a huge influence...without him, no Yngwie, for instance.

3. Satch - uninspired in this clip, but a modern feel oriented player. Even though he plays a lot of fast stuff, it's not really very technical.

-4. Bolin - hard to listen to in this clip. his intonation is so bad. Worse than guys in most bar bands that I've heard. Amateur time all the way.

look at the tools ritchie and tommy had, old strats, not very well made back in the 70's. but the speed ritchie plays is highway star sols is phenomenal.

satch can play that fast but he needs distortion to cover mistakes and a 5 piece wizard neck that is ultra smooth and has a very low action, need i say more?

Not a very fair comparison as Blackmore wrote this.

Interestingly, Blackmore never really played it the same way (Purple always tried to improvise..everynight, that was their thing!), so Satriani & Morse are just copying the original studio version.

Bolin on the otherhand, is putting his own spin on the solo and of course, he claims never to have listened to the original tapes Coverdale gave him anyway.

I'd like to hear them all have a go Owed to G or Wild Dogs.
