It's not entirely our fault that some of us don't value our traditions and cultures. 75% of the Chinese population in HK came from different parts of Mainland China, how are we not Chinese? And the communists destroyed a lot of our country's traditions and values during the Cultural Revolution. Somehow, in some ways thanks to the overseas Chinese in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the West to preserved some of our old traditional habits and values. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had anything left.

arrogant or not, hk people do have a higher class than most mainlanders. there is a civility and respect for society, laws, and environment and professionalism not seen in mainlanders. for example, I've seen many mainlanders spitting on the street when they have phlegm or cursing aloud publically. in one case I saw a mainlander changing clothes in the clothing store but not in the fitting room, nor did he fold the shirt when he placed it back on the rack.

If you know even a little bit of Chinese, Chinese, you can actually tell the difference between Mandarin(spoken in most of mainland china, and Cantonese.(spoken in HK) Even the Cantonese speaking mainlander, may have slightly different accent than HK Cantonese.

You unfortunately cannot grasp the simple fact that the mainland is many times larger than hong kong and is not simply a enormous sprawling urban space. There are many rural people in the mainland who have had no need to know of western societies rules. In the larger cities of mainland china there is more civility and respect as you say but even then there is still a large rural aspect in the chinese cities which is not so in hong kong. the opinion of class is invalid due to the size of mainland

Well, they are in China, and China's official language does NOT include English, Mandarin is the only official language. HK's official languages include English. HK people have absolutely no excuse for not speaking English perfectly since HK had been a colony of UK for a little more than a century.

Well not everyone in China can speak Mandarin either. And it's the official language of China. I've seen numbers of mainlander who speak Mandarin with a their thick rural accent. Mainland people have no excuse for not speaking Mandarin properly since it's been the official language for many decades.

Yes, Mandarin has been the offical language for many decades, not more than century. Speaking Mandarin with a dialect accent does not mean their Mandarin is not perfect. It only means they have a dialect accent, which is commonly spoken in their own provinces. Whereas for HK people, even without considering their heavy accent, their English is not anywhere near perfect.
