@Simius01sure, sound design was created using an Access Virus KC for the initial creepy tone, St Speech for the robot voice, microphone for the reverbed whisper layered underneath the robot voice and the bass drop and white noise were done with a Roland SH3A. Sequenced in Ableton Live using Kjaerhus Classic reverb and delay plugins (free download) and Ableton's inbuilt Reverb and Resonator effect for the accented "nuts" tone. Seems a lot simpler when you just listen to it doesn't it ;)
@MusicGearNuts Haha I meant the plugin for the voice, so thats the ST speech from atari, how did you get it? Is there some sort of VST or emulution which you used to create it? Thnx for the help, appreciate it!
@Simius01 its the actual st speech recorded to audio. Give it a google search, there should be emulators around, but probably not in VST form as its not something you can "play" or sequence via midi...
I'd be happy to record a line of text and upload it on youtube for you... new video series: ST Speech requests ;)
people need to stop sucking the 303 and 909's nuts. its 2012 people! make new and exciting shit and stop idolizing such an overused sound. evolve......
@h2ophilter is 2012 supposed to mean that we are all making futuristic sounds??? loosen up guy, the 303 will never get old as it has still not even gotten popular yet, and never will. dumbass... make music with whatever makes it fun for you.
@branasaur 303 not popular? have you heard of this small band called New Order, or Prodigy? Or this song no one has heard called Ray of Light? Im just commenting on its over-use and almost saint like praise. its limiting tonally, from a musical prospective. I say make whatever music you want, but Im entitled to my opinion, as you are too.
@orphee1337 no the claps are samples (you're right I forgot about the claps), as are white noise, pink noise and green noise which can be used to program claps from scratch.
The Tempest is very much a hybrid analog/digital drum machine. On the whole I wouldn't really compare it to a 909 but people asked to see the Tempest used in a similar way... It's like comparing an Elektron Machinedrum to a 909, It can try to emulate one, and sound good in the mix but it still isn't a 909...
@jazzlicka it does use digitally controlled oscillators and analogue filters along with onboard samples, so yeah, its definitely hybrid. I think "analogue" as a marketing term needs to be dropped already...
Do the bass/303 synth lead and pad type sounds cut it? Is it similar to the evolver x6 with a built in sequencer?
Im seriously considering selling my monomachine and a few of my old analog monos for this and really want to hear some examples of the Tempest doing nice bass and synth pad noises.
@aikighost I'd still keep your favorite oldschool analog mono as they will almost always sound fatter than DSI gear, but for poly synth sounds like chords, strings/pads etc, the Tempest does a nice job... the sound is a little different to the Evolver.
At this stage, the poly synth feature is a beta release of the software.... The current "official" version of the Tempest only works as a drum machine...
You can get the beta updates from the DSI forum at dsiforum.org
@aikighost It can't do a 303, if I were you and you really want to buy something new go get yourself the Xbase 999 and a Tetra4 at the side from DSI. Then you have the best from both worlds. Don't fall for the flashy lights, the xbase is way more banging than the tempest and with the tetra next to it you still got a 4 voice DSI machine for pretty much the same price as only the tempest.
@M3sslah The 303 sound was a VST. The Tempest is an amazing drum machine, far more capable than the Jomox drum machines. Whether or not it's worth the price tag is up to the consumer.
haha soo cool at 1.13. video effect u sue is so fitting :)

Beautiful organic sound. I'd buy this over a JoMoX.

@MessyJatador I do like the Tempest, but I'd still augment it with a Jomox for the kick drum...

The 9real 09 clap isn't a sample, it's analog. Only the HH, OH and cymbals are samples on the 909. Can it emulate the clap as analog?

@MusicGearNuts you are the first on the tube to point this out correctly A/D hybrid
analogue sounds with digital remodeling technique.

just a note, 909's don't have a "shaker" sound, its only in there to add some flavour...
