@M4riusBstr4nd I agree that when shooting a massive number of pictures, RAW isn't practical. Shooting JPEG when you know you're going to have your finger on the trigger most of the time is a better idea.
P.S-I use RAW for everyday shooting. Jared Polin drilled that into me. :P

@bendingsnake Soccer is a sport? not in most of the 50 states. ..is an activity that little girls play before the find a real sport to play, and drunk college students play on spring break. . . .
in the US we have real sports to play. . .and shoot. ..
@Semprasectum stfu cockucker, the whole world plats football, american sports are shit and all taken from 'girly' sports. no american sport requires real skill, using your hands is a piece of piss!
@SuperWeng10, it depends where photographer is doing his job :). In Slovenia is definitely not a good payed job, but somewhere else, like USA if u are good u can earn big money :)
@luckyazian13, For what? For shooting JPEG? I shoot football in jpeg but some other sports I also shoot in raw (skiing). And then I told Reuters, AFP, AP, ... photographers I shoot skiing in raw thay said to me: WTF??? WHY??? They shoot everything in jpeg because they don't need raw files.
It's hard to understand but once you will have 1000 images and 10-20 minutes to sort and send them you will understand :)
@MrAlinush43 most professional sports photographers shoot in jpeg due to the high amount of images they capture each game. Many images are sent from the field with no time for editing. The images should have proper white balance / exposure already so no post processing should be needed for these images. It's a race to get their photos to editors.
@gggrrreeennneee. I don't have recipe for big games and becoming a pro.
My advice is try to make good and strong portfolio/photos on your local games. Try to find something else on the field, because game is not just players and a ball, there is a lot of other interesting things or perspectives.
When I work I make 20-30 photos that I need and then I play and sometimes those "play" photos are bad but when I need right place photos are awsome.
When you will have portfolio send it to local media
Thanks for the really interesting post! The camera angles were kick ass! Ive been looking for videos just like this one! I'm 21 as a part timer at a local news paper .and its really inspiring to see a young guy like yourself shooting out there with the other pros. Keep posting if you can :D
hi i am gonna be shooting soccer in a few weeks my first time, can u pls give me some adivse, like wht mode should i be in A or SP. i would like to knw if in A mode wht is the best F# to be in and if in SP mode wht speed should i be in to freeze the moment and have the background blured. any advice will be helpfull. thax
@ipoddunk, no I don't shoot Champions Leauge, I don't shoot so much football, because I'm not football fan :). I shoot ski world cup in winter, handball champions leauge and sports like downhill in summer. I really like doing sports that are not so easy to get the position to shoot :)
@schumionbike, If footbal is important and I use 400mm + 1.4 then I take around 500-600 photos because I am long enought to shoot to the other side of field.
My sports photos are in 90% JPEG, because there is no time to edit raw photos. I shoot raw if client wants raw files or the game is really important.
nikon sucks at sports. go get a canon, douchebag

You must be living in the 1980s if you think thats true, Nikon has caught up with Canon, they're pretty much on par, maybe Nikon slightly better

@Alexandahls, it's not technique but when I have to work for 10 hours it can become "disturbing"
