I keep expecting green slime or water to be poured on everyone. You Cant Do That On Television was also a Canadian variety show, although for teenagers and kids
Ah!! Canada in the 60's where you didnt have to be worried about being drafted and going to die in Vietnam.Only problem is that you would be in a natural freezer box for most of the year.
Yes, this was a CBC specisl. Too bad, the color CBC logo of the butterfly isn't seen. That was their version of NBC's peacock. And remember kids, there were just two Canadian tv networks then and just 3 American ones. Truly a time on another planet.
People like to characterize this era as a time when all the young people were part of the counterculture. They forget that there was a mainstream being rebelled against. Everything in this video comes from and is quite squarely (ha ha) aimed at that mainstream. They went so far as to include a couple people of color, but that was it. Thanks for posting this!
@cpowers94 Canada (and the CBC) started broadcasting colour television in 1966, but obviously was still producing programs in black & white ("Wojeck" easily springs to mind) for a period of the mid-to-late 1960s. Not positive but I think the first CBC show to broadcast in colour was "Hockey Night in Canada".
Why do the men all have to were mint green suits? Is this a Canadian costume custom?
