Anyways, it's not like we're ashamed of our language, but compared to most other Asian languages, Tagalog has many dialects and knowing Tagalog and English at least gives a universal way of communicating in the Philippines. Easy. Because after WW2,The Japanese economy was rebuilt with a focus on consumer electronics . eg. Sony.Massive investment from the US helped this and by the 60s the Japanese markets were opening up.. Same with SK. They invested heavily into their industry, Daewoo and Samsung are examples,

And so what if the Philippines doesn't have brands like those? Why compete with a country that does it better? I agree with toiletholder. The Filipino people have trifle to none when it comes to confidence in their (and their fellow countrymen's) skills, especially when it comes to music, so they only mimic other countries. It's really depressing, since, being a Filipino myself, whenever I let someone of another nationality listen to Christian Bautista or Sarah Geronimo, etc., they always, ALWAYS, say, "Hmmm. S/he has a good voice, but this song kinda' sounds like *insert old American ballad here.*"

This is bad. There is no originality in the melodies, the style of the singer, in the arrangements. There is no personality. These are just generic love ballads, patterned after American love ballads. They just take the most generic aspects of composing American 90s ballads and copy them. Filipinos are smart, witty and funny. But when it comes to producing movies and music they're horrible at it. I don't get why there is such a disconnect. I prefer the Kundimans.
