  • I wonder if it is possible for anyone to post the Season 2 closing of the Lucy Show???

  • I'm embarassed for Vivian Vance that Lucy could truly display what an "underling" she must've felt she was. This would be yet another reason I think Lucy sans Desi behind the camera was a VERY sad thing.

  • @rob4791 , Lucy did NOT think of Vivian Vance as an "underling." In fact, she was so reliant on her in the beginning that she nearly bailed out of doing The Lucy Show if she couldn't convince Vivian Vance to do it with her. She didn't think she could go on without Vivian and made that very clear. She praised Vivian's work and respected her artistic input. She also praised Gale Gordon and Desi, and her writers, giving them most of the credit for her success on television.

  • @rachelazw I didn't mean to ruffle feathers with my comment and so appologize for it anyhow. In my life I've wept over only two celebrity deaths. Lucy was the first and Gilda Radner was the other a short time later. I think Lucille Ball was a comic genius, but have also come to terms with the fact that she was human. She was a control freak that drove director's crazy after she had complete control of things. She even tried to show Jack Benny how some material should be timed.

  • I loved " the Lucy Show " The color was really nice and brought out her carrot red hair and her blue eyes. I wish they would rerun this series too. Here's Lucy was nice too but I didn't care for Lucie Arnaz's performance she always was "acting". Whatever character Lucy played even in the movies she made it look effortless and not forced.

  • @NFitalianGuy The Second Season of The Lucy Show is being relesed on DVD July 13, 2010! It's available for pre-order on amazon!

  • Filming in color was something Lucy did on her own. After the success of the first season, she knew the shows would be rerun in the years to come and she also knew that all TV would be in color in the not too distant future. She considered it an investment.

  • Lucy and Desi were always both extremely savvy about those kinds of things. When they were beginning "I Love Lucy", CBS balked at the production costs, and so Desi proposed that he and Lucy would cover the costs in exchange for ownership of the show. CBS agreed, never imagining anyone would have any interest in the shows after they first aired, and so it was Desi and Lucy (and Desilu) who profited, once syndication began. Lucy probably had that in mind when she was beginning "the Lucy Show".

  • No, this is the 1963-64 intro as stated by fromthesidelines below. It is incredible but true that, despite the series being filmed in color, CBS continued to broadcast it only in black & white until the fall of 1965.

  • this was when the show was in color for the 1965-1966 season.

  • Wrong, this is the opening from the 1963-64 season. CBS switched to largely color broadcasts during the 1965-66 season, although the Lucy Show began filming in color two years earlier.

  • Hopefully with the series now officially coming out on DVD, we will be able to see these openings fully restored!

  • There was another "Lucy Show" opening where a figure of Lucille Ball was animated in a jack-in-the-box - it was reported that Lucille Ball completely disliked that opening, but opted for the kaleidoscope opening for the run of the series-

  • Yes, and there was a copy of it on YouTube for a while -- not sure if it's still here -- but it was indeed freaky and surreal. (Not to be too graphic or morose, but it looked somewhat like a severed head.). It's completely understandable why Lucy disliked it so much.

  • At :14, Roy Rowan originally announced, "Brought to you by...", but it was edited from this syndicated version.

  • LOVE IT!!

  • This is the rarely seen second season opening title (1963-'64); it was the first filmed in color, although CBS aired the series in black and white until the fall of 1965 [they did repeat several second and third season color episodes (with a fourth season title) in prime-time in the spring of 1966, '67 and '68, before the show was repeated on the network's daytime schedule in the fall of '68].

  • Does anyone know what episode each square is from? I recognize the one w/ Cleopatra from the 1st episode from the 2nd season, but what are the other ones from?

  • The one in the top middle is a color still from the B&W "Lucy Takes Up Chemistry" (1st season) and the one next to it looks like "Lucy and Viv Are Volunteer Firemen." I'm not sure, but I think the one on the left is from "Lucy Decides to Redecorate" (2nd season), and the one on the right is from "Lucy and the Safe Cracker" (2nd season).

  • Actually the one of Lucy with her "distorted" face in the TV screen on the right is from "Lucy Puts up a TV Antenna" (but it was cut from the original broadcast)

  • Oh, and I have no clue about the Viv square in the center.

  • cool!

  • WHich episode is the one where Lucy has that fright wig on and looks like she's holding a knife? (It is the top center square on the opening.) Would love to see a clip of it.

  • thats from lucy and viv take up chemistry, a season 1 episode.

  • Thanks! I'll look for it.

  • Would it ever be possible to post any clips of episodes from Season 2 of the Lucy Show??

One example would be when Lucy and Viv portrayed Antony and Cleopatra.

  • wow...thank you... i knew this was still around, but i couldnt get it! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Wow, I am so thrilled to find the theme song/intro to Season 2 of the LUCY SHOW posted on YOUTUBE. Seeing this Season 2 intro/theme song has perked up my day. Thanks again.
