  • @wrokjon The bar is across the top of his deltoids, not below them on the scapulae, but not on the traps, so that makes it more high bar than low bar. His feet are where you'll see any olympic lifter's feet would be in a squat. His knees go forward over his feet with very little 'sit back' in the descent. While they may not be absolutely orthodox olympic squats, they nearly are and don't really resemble powerlifting/'low bar' squats at all.

  • @56mikeo Actually, low bars are positioned in the intermuscular crease between the bottom of the traps and the top of the rear deltoids. In terms of bar placement, Kirk is doing a low bar squat.

  • maulstar1..the idea was that most olympic lifters are stingy with their praise for powerlifters because of high squats bench shirts etc....since our standards are stricter(right or wrong) positive comments from us are scarce and more noteworthy(I guess).

  • @garbagepants Stan Efferding outlifts Coleman,and he's a pro bodybuilder.. Stan has hit 820 RAW in the squat, and 610 RAW in the bench @274lbs bodyweight..I agree with the general point you were trying to make..

  • Actually Stand Efferding is stronger, Kevin Levrone was on Ronnie's level of strength about 10 years ago, Branch Warren is stronger than Ronnie was, and Ben White used to be able to bench far more than Ronnie. Ronnie was a strong guy, but not THAT strong. And he trained rather heavy, so while he trained for size in many regards, he also trained with long rest periods and heavy weights on major compound lifts and that's how you train for strength. So it's not like he didn't try to get strong.

    I used to work out at the MARYLAND ATHLETIC CLUB, I remember this day I was in the back room where the TV was, the stretch room. People from all over came out for this day. Ian the owner is an awesome guy and his gym was great. When I was going to Paint Branch and Montgomery me and my friend Will Hill use to workout there. I remember one day after Kirk's training when he use to get nose bleeds, intense.
