It had nothing to do with that. It was because they picked Jecht for the Chaos side that Tidus was the better choice.

@AnimeAngel88 Other way around. hey wanted Seymour as the villain, but if they did that they'd have to use Yuna; they didn't want to, she isn't the playable character. So they decided to use someone with a deeper connection to Tidus, thus Jecht.

The villain counterparts are unlocked by completing the heroes' storylines (Destiny Odyssey) respectively

EX: Clear Destiny Odyssey VIII (Squall) to unlock Ultimecia.

Each of the villains cost 500 PP

To show the reason why Cosmos summoned the 10 Warriors in the first place. She was already losing, so she wanted to end the fight permanently. Gabranth taught her that as long as the Gods continue to exist, the fight will never cease. It was then that Cosmos decided that the warriors needed to collect the crystals, weaken her to the point of 'absolute death' and destroy Chaos in the end to end the cycle of battle forever.
