But this movie was very wrong. Too much Hindu doctrines in a Muslim story. Laila and Majnu were ideal lovers but they were also true Muslims. They didn't say any kufar (disblief) against Allah. But in this movie, both Lila and Majnu have comitted Kufr (disblief) over and over again because of the influence of Hinduism.
Their pure love and belief in Allah is the reason why their stories are even mentioned in religious texts by Muslim saints and scholars.
It is known from Malfuzat-e-Mehria (book by Pir Mehr Ali Shah) that the mother of Qais was in fact a servant in the household of the Imam Hassan (Prophet Muhammad's grandson). Both Imam Hassan and Qais grew up as friends. It was during a journey together that Imam Hassan actually gave Qais the title of "Majnu" himself (lovingly and in a joking manner) due to Qais's "obsession".
It is also written that Qais's mother breastfed Imam Hassan. That would make Imam Hassan and Qais foster brothers!
...It would also mean that both Qais and Layla were "Tabi'ee" (person born after Prophet Muhammad passed away, but early enough to meet the prophet's companions.)

Religion is being discussed here because it is a religious story which modern day story-tellers and movie makers have corrupted for the sake of money.
And you saying that you would rather go to a bollywood movie for "solid evidence" instead of the Islamic scripture is just pure ignorance.
