Wow.. what's with the anime of recent times? The quality seems sub par. Lesser frames, few 3 point perspectives and cheap character outlines (the lines that make character drawings before they are colored).

Sigh. There are too few high quality animations as of late :(

when i was 8 my aunt showd me a tape/casette with ghost in the shell and akira on it, from that day i became an anime fan.

personally the GITS saga is the most amazing anime saga ive ever seen

and AKIRA is the best anime movie ever made, period.

additionally: i saw the other list, ''best sci fi movies ever'' and was about to comment like ''where's gits?'', but then i saw you have an own list for sci fi animes.. awesome... additionally: where is patlabor 1 & 2 ? you should definitely check it out, especially the 2nd.its also by mamoru oshii..and then whats with Jin roh..? its not pure sci fi, but an alternate universe thing (which also belongs to sci fi in common opinions).. if you have included steamboy, then Jin roh is a must..check it

Putting one Ghost In The Shell in would count for the entire GITS collection. Though, I think Cowboy Bebop - Knocking on..., and The Sky Crawlers should be included - personally I think CB is one of the BIG Anime classics. Anyways, got a question. Been trying to figure out the name of an Anime Series/Movie I watched way back in the 90s. I cant remember that well. It has to do with Androids, and a protagonist is a blond girl with a red leather jacket. She tries to find out who build her, I think.

Lot of people might not know this but the reason anime looked cool in the first place is because they started to use the computer. i watched akira a few days ago was really looking forward to seeing it. Sadly wasnt impressed, dont get me wrong loved the artwork and the animation it was spectacular. But sadly the story was way to disjointed and all the characters where barely developed at all, i dont think there was enough dialogue in the film and barely anything is explained. Apparently alot is answered in the manga but a movie should stand on its own separate from the source material.

i saw vhd 2 twice back when it was in theatres 2001 i think. it was in a creepy old theatre too, with a stage, balcony and a guy that played a piano that rose out of the ground before the show. man it was awesome.

No i haven't seen it. Many people have told me it's a great movie, but i don't want to watch it until i see the series between the two movies. Maybe later i will add more movies. Some days ago i saw a movie called "Venus wars" and i also want to include it. Thanks for the comment.

The series isn't necessarily in canon with the Oshii films, my take on it is that they are slightly different interpretations of the story. Innocence is a magnificent film, definitely worth your time.

Innocence was released in a time where such visual spectacle was almost lost among the that of countless other movies doing the same things with the same technology. They are both great but in no way had the same in impact on the world.

We're talking about what's a better movie, not which one came first and thus is inherently novel. I agree that they are both great, but I stand by my point that Innocence is the better movie, especially visually.

I just come from seeing Akira... and it was great!, it shurely deserves number one, the animation was just excuisit, very great anime... but I would like to se ghost in shell... to be sure... I saw also D vimpire hunter... another exelent masterpiece... but most of the animes here are from the 80's and some relativly of our time... But looking at akira and many others I would say that the CGI Animation is not as good as original man made anime...
