No, your abs will just adjust and get used to you performing 1000 crunches a day. If you want them to get bigger and therefore be more visible, you need to add weights - more specifically, dumbell excercises for abs. Use a decline board, 45 degrees if you have strong abs. There are a wide variety of excercises you can check on you tube. My suggestion, type in darin steen ab excercises.
why? it won't make the effect on the abs any different, if anything it'll present a slightly greater stability challenge since less surface area on the ground is being covered by the exerciser's body ;)

yep, try and space them out if your doing 1,000 a day (if you stick to 1,000 and not give in).
just do it 4 days a week otherwise the muscle tissue wont heal and wont develop.
