  • the bass line on this if fuckin fantastic! this version is fuckin fantastic!

  • Sounds so much like Hendrix.

  • TURN UP HIS GODDAMN MIC.....SHIIIT

  • I was there @ Capitol Center which is now a fucking Mall!!!1 SHIT THOSE WERE THE DAYS

  • @Nasher145-More like deliberate sabotage. Their equipment was hijacked when they came to NYC.

  • Love it! Nice post.

  • we high on this mutha

  • The name of the song is "Cosmic Slop"!

  • "bad ass" perfect word!

  • oh man, that's bad ass how he fills in......that's a tight band. Most bands have one shredder, gary comes in and saves it. And a funky outro.

  • @kentthundercat

yep. i agree, looks like Mike pops a string, lost power r somethin. Gary fills in, then yells at George to come out.

  • @OrgenaII read the description yo, it says what happened

  • I was at this show, one of my favorites.

  • Sorry, it's the 6:57 minute mark.lol I luv it.

  • Comment removed

  • I actually taped this show on cassette and lost them. Probably stolen. I've been waiting to hear this versoin again for a long long time. The sound was balanced in every way except Gary's vocals. I luv it when Ray comes in for the second verse and when they come out of the last change back into the body of the song @ the 7 minute mark. Gary and Mike makin 'em sing. Gary did what he did best here covering for Mike. Rest in peace Gary, great solo.

  • ....and we were there to see it. That called this show the crossover show. Landover received them like no other....even Donnie Simpson said so....

  • I was there and CHANGED FOREVER !!!!!!!!

  • Saw P-Funk twice in Los Angeles during this period and was one of the very few whites in the audience. Brothers kept asking "Are you sure you're at the right concert? You really here to see Bootsy and P-Funk???'" Damn straight bro! They don't make 'em like this anymore.

  • OMFG! I WAS AT THIS SHOW! I didn't know there was any video available! I can't believe I'm just finding this. The smoke in the air gave us a contact high. The whole night was incredible!

  • Doc, u absolutely R I G H T on that 1 un funk'KAY person who obviously never been hit with a funk stick up side the head like all us Funkateer's :) This is R A W Nass'tay documented FUNK :)

  • One person didn't hear his mother call.

  • Father Father it's for the kids, any and everything I did. Please please don't judge me too strong...

  • the bass line is sooooo funky sweet funk oh sweet funk!

  • At 4:50 Shider is like "huh? what? alright, I got this....."

  • @6402680 I think he pulled off one of the better solos of any version of "cosmic slop". Long live Gary Shider!!!

  • no bad talk about other versions but wheeeeewwww this son of gun just takes me back to 74 in front of pats house just loving my close friends daddy was driving over the road and mama was at home makin chili kenny came to us and said you gonna love this new group and i still funk but i can't find chocolate city to save my life , we still doin the cosmic slop

  • All Praise to the funk Gods...

  • R.I.P. Garry Shider!!!!

  • R.I.P. Gary!!!!!!!!

  • where all my funkateers at

  • @aprilbunny808 Right Here!!!!!!!

  • a great flash back for me and all my dc friends . 1979 was a good year.

  • i love seeing these old clips when shit was golden n raw

  • This is a great fuckin song but, the BEST version of this song that I EVER heard is by

The D.C. funk group BLACK HEAT!!!! I don't

know how true this is but, I was told that a guy named KING RAYMOND GREEN sang

all the lead and background vocals on that song and did a rap, as a slap at George Clinton for stealing a song from him. Check out that version, because I think that version

    knocks George out the box!!!!

  • @Singer148 Black Heat...."No time to Burn"...was there hit at the time.....Did George really steal this..???

  • TO THE POST ER: ROCK MUSIC IS ORIGINALLY FROM THE BLACK CULTURE !! GET EDUCATED !!

  • The late Garry "Starchild" Shider singing and playing lead on Cosmic Slop in Chocolate City after Michael Hampton's amp went out. You will be missed Garry.

  • R.I.P GARRY "DIAPER MAN STARCHILD" SHIDER, ANOTHER LEGEND GONE TO SOON. HOPE YOU, EDDIE HAZEL, GLEN GOINS AND RAY "STINGRAY" DAVIS ARE ARE UP THERE FUNKIN & ROCKIN THAT SHIT OUT. ROCK ON BROTHA

  • R.I.P. Garry Shider

  • RIP Garry Shider, you will be missed! I want to get funked up! Make mine!

  • Starchild's funk will live on forever

  • Michael Hampton you are still the shit. Dude, you rock on. All I can say is "bad ass"!!! From your old friend, "Doll".

  • There is no one who can top this magnificent guitar playing

  • The version on Hardcore Jollies is the best. I heard they recorded it in a airplane hanger in upstate new york.

  • i have to agree to the poster on this one this was sloppy and the ALBULM P Funk live was BETTER sounding the the DVD that i also have it seems like the ALBULM was very much edited and also seemed like they made no mistakes as well case in point the song swing down sweet chariot but when you look at it THIS was BEFORE flashlight so its still impressive and they surley had the talent..says uzipolo king of decatur

  • wasnt there another version of this song but it was kinda faster??? and the intro and the OUTRO was LONGER??

  • @uzipolo Detroit '78 Home of the Funk is the one I believe you're looking for. My favorite version and they just explode with energy. It follows with maggot brain and they kill it on that too. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this is my 2nd favorite verson of this song. That bassline is funky for real

  • Funkadelic originally was like a fusion of soul and rock I think.

  • @PienseMi the bass line homie

  • who says a funk band can't play rock? ;-)

  • This is tha FUNK!!!!!!

  • This shit is still nasty as hell!

  • P-F are coming to the Rams Head here in Balt... I'm dying to go...

  • Where is that skull now?...lol

  • RIGHT!!!

  • @sheba1959 I am with you sheba, I would love to know where all of George's props are these days; the spaceship (big and small), the birdass yellow bird, the skull, some of the costumes. There will never be concerts like this again in history. I was at the capitol centre that night... as much as i can remember ~{ ;o)

  • I love the prominent bassline on this.

  • @pollywarrior agree , this version is the best ,

  • funk is coming back, hay if like this check out this band called icemosis. their pretty good too.

  • OMG! They took it off. I agree...why? THe Houston 1976 P-Funk Earth tour performance was the best ever! I have the video of the concert. Mike 'Kid Funkadelic' Hampton killed the intro! Why would they remove hat one?!

  • Love this song but the version done in Houston/1976 - was better! But they took it off YouTube... WHY would someone do that? Just rude!

  • i have also heard ANOTHER VERSION of this but the pitch speed was fast and the INTRO and the OUTRO guitar solos were longer do you have an idea which group performed this or IS IT the houston 76 concert?

  • Mike all way.s play lead, when eddie left.

  • That,s my home town, they was high at that

show, still ,best band there ever was!

  • Leave it to Garry to save the day. He is a great band leader.

  • Didn't Gary Shider play the solo on the original record???

  • no, hampton did

  • Mike Hampton wasn't with the band in '73 when the original came out & Eddie Hazel had left. I think it was Gary, but they had another guy named Ron Brykowski the "Token White Devil" so i'm not 100 per cent....

  • Yeah, when Eddie Hazel "left" to serve some time in prison. :-)

  • Eddie Hazel died, Asshole !

  • @nasty704 yes, Hazel died in '92. But he had been to jail in '74, in fact Michael Hampton replaced him as lead guitar then.

  • I always wondered who that was!

  • On the original version of Cosmic slop from the 1973 album the guitars on that track were played by Garry Shider and Ron Bykowski. The version played here was based on a version played by Michael Hampton for the P-Funk Earth Tour and it has become the standard way that they play it

  • @chiknfulio Also the whole "space ppl" intro is different from the album.

  • The "Space People" intro was meant to be on the album version, but it got omitted for some reason

  • @chiknfulio No kidding? Wow....that is crazy. I feel like they made the track lengths short (for the most part) on the Funkadelic albums after "Maggot" and before "One Nation" probly just so they could fit all the tunes on... The fade-outs always came too quickly for me but I love em anyway.

  • the song is sooo great!!!

    thank you for the video!!!

  • Amazing! I was bummed that Kidd's stuff malfunctioned, but Gary played it off nicely. I heard Mike come back in at the end! Wow! I love this band!

  • gary i sgreat!

  • I didn't know Gray could play that well.

  • Go Gary! I love his playing

  • Hell nah, aint' nobody fkin wit that boat no more. After Cornell and Raefel came out wit that snow white.

    It was a wrap Joe!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, I been on the boat, but not at this show. Being a musician I wanted to see it all. But boat, dam. Its been along time. I'm on da boat, you on the boat, errybody on the boat boat. You got me thinkin I wanna be on the boat now.lol

  • Yeah. We used to shovel snow off of driveways and jam to your live cassette tape of this show! MH

  • Yeah we did. This brought back alot of memories. Like walking down Wheeler while this was playing. And walking up to one of the very few houses with a fence on Wheeler. Seems like we made a few bucks that day.

  • Was there on that love boat @ that jont. Almost got but naked, but my pops would have killed me if he saw me cuttin up LOL!!!!!

  • Funkadelic representin' in CHOCOLATE CITY-WHAT'S HAPPENIN' C.C.?

  • INCREDIBLE

  • I Still Must Go With Da Funk.... May We Funk You..... This is True P-Funk "P=PURE"

  • I was at this and had it recorded, who knows what happened to the tape, but I used to love hearing Gary come in with something different and Skeet went into the thumping near the middle of the second solo and then Mike and Gary makem sing. I always thought the end was sloppy but bearable. Now I can listen again. Thanks to who ever is putting these up.

  • CATCH!!!! GARY!!!!.....love it when chemistry rayne supreme~

  • This is how it should be done. Michaels having problems so Gary steps right. in to get the job done. True Masters of thier craft.

  • He bangin that jont'

  • i catch this show in richmond va keep alive

  • funk n roll!

  • Whos this dude jammin on the guitar, hes awesome.

  • Michael Hampton or Eddie Hazel...most likely Hampton since this is '79 show.

  • Michael played the opening solo then the equipment malfunctioned and Garry Shider had to play the ending solo by himself. At that time, Michael and Garry traded off in the closing solo and then played together to end the song.

  • Thats true talent right there! Kept the grove and rose from chaos. =:)

  • love thar live version !

  • almost ALL of parliament/funkadelic live versions are better than their recording...think I'm wrong check aquaboogie dc 1979...lol If u don't have a funkasm...please call me LOL

  • i just had one lol!brilliant live performances are a sign of brilliant musicianship!no studio remix to hide behind!peace

  • I like still...percussion on display with tech-problem...you can hear the bass poppin'

    Peace

  • OHHHHHHHHHHH..I miss the Capital Centre :(

  • AHAHAHAH....AHAHAHHA! Hear my motha' call.....

  • Although distorted, this is great performance from Bennie Worrell and Gary Shider with his on the spot solo bring it all together for Clinton to come out with his Super-Fly Feathered costume. There will never be another....Parliament/Funkadelic! Cosmic Slop has always had a better sound performed live than the studio cutt.

  • My bad...Typ-o Bernie Worrell.

  • i think all their songs sound better live, the studio stuff, doesn't really bring out the guitars too much

  • I hear ya....I feel the same way... The live performances identify the band, in my opion...Peace and Prosperity!!

    G

  • still a great version of the song

  • Even though there's technical diffulculties, hearing bernie do his fill ins is strong, and for that cause'why not put up wit the tech diffulcult stuff .....fly on my space people

  • I love hearing Gary Shider play. Pity he couldn't have a solo like that on a studio track once in a while.

  • That was professionalism in the clutch. Weaker artists would have crumbled with so much not working as planned but the improv was funky!

    Great video!

  • @Calicard Yeah like when milli vanilli ran off the stage when the tape that they were lip-syncing to skipped. Or when ashley simpson looked like an ass when her engineers played the wrong tape when she was lip-syncing on Saturday Night Live!

  • wow.serious problems there but the feeling is strong.:D go on fly on !!!
