I actually taped this show on cassette and lost them. Probably stolen. I've been waiting to hear this versoin again for a long long time. The sound was balanced in every way except Gary's vocals. I luv it when Ray comes in for the second verse and when they come out of the last change back into the body of the song @ the 7 minute mark. Gary and Mike makin 'em sing. Gary did what he did best here covering for Mike. Rest in peace Gary, great solo.
Saw P-Funk twice in Los Angeles during this period and was one of the very few whites in the audience. Brothers kept asking "Are you sure you're at the right concert? You really here to see Bootsy and P-Funk???'" Damn straight bro! They don't make 'em like this anymore.
OMFG! I WAS AT THIS SHOW! I didn't know there was any video available! I can't believe I'm just finding this. The smoke in the air gave us a contact high. The whole night was incredible!
Doc, u absolutely R I G H T on that 1 un funk'KAY person who obviously never been hit with a funk stick up side the head like all us Funkateer's :) This is R A W Nass'tay documented FUNK :)
no bad talk about other versions but wheeeeewwww this son of gun just takes me back to 74 in front of pats house just loving my close friends daddy was driving over the road and mama was at home makin chili kenny came to us and said you gonna love this new group and i still funk but i can't find chocolate city to save my life , we still doin the cosmic slop
This is a great fuckin song but, the BEST version of this song that I EVER heard is by
The D.C. funk group BLACK HEAT!!!! I don't
know how true this is but, I was told that a guy named KING RAYMOND GREEN sang
all the lead and background vocals on that song and did a rap, as a slap at George Clinton for stealing a song from him. Check out that version, because I think that version
The late Garry "Starchild" Shider singing and playing lead on Cosmic Slop in Chocolate City after Michael Hampton's amp went out. You will be missed Garry.
R.I.P GARRY "DIAPER MAN STARCHILD" SHIDER, ANOTHER LEGEND GONE TO SOON. HOPE YOU, EDDIE HAZEL, GLEN GOINS AND RAY "STINGRAY" DAVIS ARE ARE UP THERE FUNKIN & ROCKIN THAT SHIT OUT. ROCK ON BROTHA
i have to agree to the poster on this one this was sloppy and the ALBULM P Funk live was BETTER sounding the the DVD that i also have it seems like the ALBULM was very much edited and also seemed like they made no mistakes as well case in point the song swing down sweet chariot but when you look at it THIS was BEFORE flashlight so its still impressive and they surley had the talent..says uzipolo king of decatur
@uzipolo Detroit '78 Home of the Funk is the one I believe you're looking for. My favorite version and they just explode with energy. It follows with maggot brain and they kill it on that too. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!
@sheba1959 I am with you sheba, I would love to know where all of George's props are these days; the spaceship (big and small), the birdass yellow bird, the skull, some of the costumes. There will never be concerts like this again in history. I was at the capitol centre that night... as much as i can remember ~{ ;o)
OMG! They took it off. I agree...why? THe Houston 1976 P-Funk Earth tour performance was the best ever! I have the video of the concert. Mike 'Kid Funkadelic' Hampton killed the intro! Why would they remove hat one?!
i have also heard ANOTHER VERSION of this but the pitch speed was fast and the INTRO and the OUTRO guitar solos were longer do you have an idea which group performed this or IS IT the houston 76 concert?
Mike Hampton wasn't with the band in '73 when the original came out & Eddie Hazel had left. I think it was Gary, but they had another guy named Ron Brykowski the "Token White Devil" so i'm not 100 per cent....
On the original version of Cosmic slop from the 1973 album the guitars on that track were played by Garry Shider and Ron Bykowski. The version played here was based on a version played by Michael Hampton for the P-Funk Earth Tour and it has become the standard way that they play it
@chiknfulio No kidding? Wow....that is crazy. I feel like they made the track lengths short (for the most part) on the Funkadelic albums after "Maggot" and before "One Nation" probly just so they could fit all the tunes on... The fade-outs always came too quickly for me but I love em anyway.
Yeah, I been on the boat, but not at this show. Being a musician I wanted to see it all. But boat, dam. Its been along time. I'm on da boat, you on the boat, errybody on the boat boat. You got me thinkin I wanna be on the boat now.lol
Yeah we did. This brought back alot of memories. Like walking down Wheeler while this was playing. And walking up to one of the very few houses with a fence on Wheeler. Seems like we made a few bucks that day.
I was at this and had it recorded, who knows what happened to the tape, but I used to love hearing Gary come in with something different and Skeet went into the thumping near the middle of the second solo and then Mike and Gary makem sing. I always thought the end was sloppy but bearable. Now I can listen again. Thanks to who ever is putting these up.
Michael played the opening solo then the equipment malfunctioned and Garry Shider had to play the ending solo by himself. At that time, Michael and Garry traded off in the closing solo and then played together to end the song.
almost ALL of parliament/funkadelic live versions are better than their recording...think I'm wrong check aquaboogie dc 1979...lol If u don't have a funkasm...please call me LOL
