I trained Thai with Master Sken and Phil Nurse (George St. Pierre's coach)way back when in the early 80's. I also studied JJitsu with Gordon Warfield( who trained under Kenshiro Abbe) this was also in the 80's. I have tried MMA, but it's not for me...it's pretty good, but will never be real - even though it's tough. Don't get mixed up in your own hype...Real is real sport is not....Quite happy to train with any MMA or WC fighters. personally never ever had a problem with either...: )
Shit what kind of wing chun fighter did your sifu fought?.. such a lame ... that wing chun fighter does not even know how to block the kicks and the punches .. and he didnt also used the theory of the centerline ... thats what make your sifu to win because of the stupid opponent...i started to study and learn fighting styles of wing chun ... a true wing chun warrior does not put their arms and hands down they always head up their hands at chest levels...
I trained with Dan Inosanto (most believe to be Bruce's No 1 JKD apprentice) back in 1984/5 also his European rep. Bob Breen for a few years later...he offered me an Instructorship in JKD way back then...my point is Bruce would definately have said to do some Full Contact as you learn so much when fighting Full Power, also he would have said to fight other people from other styles, as this will aid your own development as you will be learning different ways of attack and defence.
If you train something hard...and when it comes the time to use it...and it doesn´t come out of you...forget it. Keep things simple and combat practical. Forget fancy stuff. Martial Arts need the continuation of Bruce Lee´s work...a never ending adjusting system, reality based with no stunts and acrobatics. Even the martial arts i mentioned before in another post, have flaws..all do and so does everyone! Perceiving them is great and eliminating them from your training is the way to go.
I´d rather cross train Krav Maga with Muay thai or Sanda/Sanshou. Anyway, I still think that Jeet Kune Do,Kajukenbo,Yoseikan Budo,Chinese Kempo,Jujutsu are the most practical MARTIAL ARTS (street/ true combat orientated). What I see on Youtube is lot´s of guys from different martial arts, fighting like kickboxing and/or muay thai style with just a little few of techiniques from their arts. Why waste time doing them then ?! LOLOLOL To become enlightened ? Meditate and read books!
Someone said below in the comments that "Good Wing Chun ain't pretty", and thats true.
I mean you can spar, and do drills in your normal stance, but when it gets down to actually fighting, depending on your body type, you'll moves will slightly differ, I know that my Jik Chun Choi looks different from my sifu's, my stance is different as well.
But i still do my Siu Lim Tau, Dummy and Chum Kiu forms the same as the rest of my Kwoon.
wait which one is wingchun?

At one point the wing chun fighter looks more like a brawler 0:50 i think.
well done sifu :)
suntzu53 2 years ago
dude which one is your sifu/? the wing chun guy?
gqplaya2000 2 years ago
The Wing Chun fighter's Sifu is Anton from London - he did many many articles on the style in Combat magazine in the late 1990's.
The FYS fighter who won this fight 'No Top' - is Sifu.
