Markus has bad structure thick joints, wide hips, and thicker than ideal skin type. Big elbow joints really hide his triceps too.

Markus really played his genetic cards well.

On the possitive side he had a strong bone structure to support a lot of muscle, and obviously a great ability to gain and maintain muscle size.

So that is exactly what he did. Turned himself into a freak, and held a bodyweight of over 320 pounds with low bodyfat and maintained that for over 12 years!

I just don't understand. I lift double my body weight. I train like a work horse. Yet I'm still scrawny and small. People are amazed at what I can lift. Do I look that bad? I will not use steroids or hormones. Must one use these toxic substances to look like a bodybuilder?

Bodybuilding is all about genetics. Steroids are a very small part of it, you don't need to take them if you're not competing. Food and how you train are important and will get you as far as you can go but genetics is what determines how far that actually is. Time and consistency are also major factors. This sport is a marathon, not a sprint. Your problem could simply be that you're not eating enough or haven't been training along enough.

P.S. Steroids aren't "toxic" ;)

What you say is fully correct. I have pondered every point you covered. I do not have the genetics. And because of my family history. I should not strive for size. There is much heart disease on both sides of my family. I do keep my weight down. I fear (erroneously?) that excessive muscularity may contribute to heart disease.

I think, but anyone correct me if I'm wrong, that there are a few studies that show individuals who lift weights, especially bodybuilders, develop a slight increase in size of the right ventricle. Does this equate to heart problems? Hard to say.. but you can take it for what it's worth.

If your strong go for Olympic lifting or powerlifing. No one cares how big you are, just how much weight you lift. It's a hell of a lot more fun too IMO.

@tjmuller Well, if you enjoy lifting weights, you can protect your heart by doing cardio. Jogging for 30+ minutes each day should be plenty. Remember most bodybuilders are not interested in health, and they will be the first to tell you that. Bodybuilding is body art. They avoid doing high intensity cardio because is could burn some muscle, or even cause injury when they are 250+ at only 5'9". For the other 99% of us interested in health, doing cardio is the way to go.

@novice8814 I have the same problem like you man. its very similar. but as the time goes by it is almost impossible to make a good shape without roids. and I started to use roids but I only use roids 2 times a year (200 tablets total) dont use morethan that. the roid is just to maintain your muscle, well for somepeople its kinda addicting so be careful. ;)
