  • Thay were the BEST

  • the dynamic duo! i miss them so much!

  • Great clip of Mickey and Judy in their forties. They both still looked pretty good here, seemed happy, and mixed well. You can see here that Mickey was a pretty good dancer. It's sad to hear that his family's stealing from him. I remember he declared bankruptcy in the '70s or early '80s. The guy's gotta be about 90 now, and he didn't look too well the last time I saw him on TV. His family should let the man live out his remaining time in peace.

  • I love the friendship between these two.

  • great oldie.

  • pure magic!

  • Pure greatest! Mickey's family recently has been stealing his awards and trying to get at his money. He spoke to a Senate committee about helping the Elderly protect what belongs to them as well as be treated kindly as they age and need assistance. Judy was pushed much too hard by the studio as a teen and fame consumed her. Shirley Temple got out in her early twenties. Mickey had a rocky life with marriages and booze.

  • @HandwhistlerBen It's wonderful to hear about his speaking to the Senate regarding Elder Care. The abuses that go on are horrific.

  • i love how she kicked off her shoes!

  • This is magical! Two very talented stars enjoying the spotlight together once more!

  • Jeeze..Judy was only 4'11...How tall was he lol? They're both really short!

  • @missmuggledetector he was only like 5'2 its funny because when they did concerts together when they were younger Judy would have to take off her heels and would perform barefoot or in her socks or whatever so that she wouldn't be taller then him. haha

  • @NicoleLeighKarbowski Lol that's cute!

  • @NicoleLeighKarbowski That's not only the reason. She's afraid she might slip and fall when dancing in high heels.

  • @saolili i know its not the only reason...it was just a neat little fact, that SHE said herself in a interview.

  • Great, really enjoyed that!

  • Sheer magic. It doesn't get better than this. Even the fluffs are good, because they just kept going and letting their joy in each other show.

  • Mickey Rooney today looks like he has melted in the hot summer sun :D

  • these two are absolutley fabulouse together hahah

  • love it! what's the song called?

  • I love these 2 and what a great song and music!

  • "Sell it, Ma. Sell it!" How wonderful they were together. They brought out the best in each other. Always a pleasure to see them.

  • "Sell it, Ma. Sell it!" How wonderful they were together.

  • wow what a pair!

  • CBS should've aired this as their first show. I bett more viewers would have tuned in. Even though the Donald O'Connor show rated pretty high for the first show. It was amazing to see these two stars who really worked Magic at MGM. They made 10 films together and were the first teenage sensation combo. They were very in tuned to the other and it showed. They had a few stars who did the show more than once & Mickey Should've been one of them.

  • despite her addictions she looks way better than Rooney in this clip. I think I read he suffered too from teh drug pusing MGM. It seems to show here. He doesn't looks so hot comparatively speaking. Judy looks absolutely Marvelous! I think she had already gained and lost a significant amount of wight here, but you can really see the funs she is having and what great shape she is in. She is not winded at all when she sings after dancing. Great video thanks. She is gorgeous, and looks happy&healthy.

  • @lydee09 Yeah cuz she had no meat on them bones TO get winded from, teehee! But I totally agree with you.

  • awww they are soo cut together thnk u for putting this up :D

and i love herr dresss SO CUTE

  • awww they are soo cut together thnk u for putting this up :D

  • Thanks for the posting! A lovely partnership and best friendship. Thanks for posting! :)

  • I used to think rooney was so cute when he was andy hardy.......he got over that. so did i....LOL

  • This was from the first taped episode of the series [Judy insisted on Mickey being her initial guest], taped in June 1963, but withheld until it finally aired on December 8, 1963.

  • These two are the 2 GREATEST entertainers to EVER step in front of a camera.

  • What is the name of this song?

  • Awww love judy and mickey SO MUCH!!!!

  • I read, I believe in Mickey Rooney's autobiography of some years ago, that he *did* propose to her in 1968. She was ill and in hospital at the time. Anyway, it is said she refused. I've often read that their love for each other was more of the Brother/Sister variety than as lovers.

  • What an Icon ( Judy)

  • lovely and wonderful

  • MIckey really did have loads of talent. Fun stuff.

  • So cute when they kiss!! XD

  • This is so sweet, and I love them both so much....but Judy legs look so thin in this clip. She looks amazing but her legs... holy crap.

  • @KristinChenoweth1

Judy has always had skinny legs... but I noticed that too.....

  • Judy Garland was 41

    Mickey Rooney was 42

    At the time of filming.

  • i love how she kicks off her shoes!

  • Wowzieeeeeee great video..

  • After the musicals, they couldn't find the right vehicle for Rooney. It is a shame because he was so talented. Short and pudgy always, but boy he could sing and dance. Even here he totally outdances Judy.

  • gosh, I miss Judy.

  • classic i think they should have married

  • this is so nice,i LOVE it!

  • In their day, there was no one more talented, than these two mega talented singers, dancers, actors. Simply the best! There's not a female actor, singer , dancer today that could hold Judy's purse for her. Thanks for a great video.

  • Loving this x

  • judy and mickey were magical... love those 2 together

  • i love this song!!

  • She looked most attractive in those years......

  • BFFS 4EVER

  • MICK-N- JOOTS FOREVER

  • Two of Americas greatest national treasures. They will live forever in our hearts...

  • I see little girl facial expressions on judy when shes around mickey .....i think he was one of the few people in her life that made her happy and feel good about her self ....i hope they can meet again someday

  • I totally agree with you

  • You couldn't have said it any better. I enjoyed seeing them both having a good time just like they did in the old movies.

  • I agree- there is always a glow in her eyes when Rooney was around. I think they should have gotten married.

  • @BALLYJUNKIE Of course that won't be for another 80 years at least....:D

  • Those 2 were always so adorable together!

  • Woah, this is f****** mint

  • What song is this?

  • Real Talent!! Would like to see kanye West do this. hahahaha.

  • An i'm a gonna let you finish but Fred Astaire was one ov the best dancers of all time...

  • Well it may have been many decades, but this wonderful pair will never die. Mickey and Judy BFF'S!!!

  • My word. What lovely entertainment. They were the perfect pair.

  • LOVE at first note

    C:

  • THATS entertainment!

  • Those legs of hers....... wow =)

  • This was the first show they taped- and the feeling of hopeful jubilation is palpable. The Edith Head dress in inspired, fashion-forward, glam but kicky. (EH was dumped as the show's designer in favor of more "sequined" Ray Aghayan)). But, the number itself, their pure fun and showmanship is what makes it an infectious joy to watch. Two consummate pros doing what they do- to perfection. My favorite number from the JG Show dvds. Thanks, Chumpy for making it ever-ready to savor!

  • haha i love how she just kicks her shoes off lol

  • They were so adorable. (:

  • i love this classy clip, sensational!!!!!!

  • Judy looked SO GOOD at this point in her life.

I've always thought if Judy had ever been with Mickey he probably could've kept her more stable that she ended up to be with the others...

    To ME anyways.

  • @localibran . . . only in certain shots and with the right angle and lighting . . . she's MUCH too thin here but her magic is as prevalent and palpable as ever.

  • @localibran are you a moron?? do you know the slightest thing about Judy Garland?? did you know the studios had her working ight and day, starving her to keep her slim, they got her on drugs in her young years to keep up with the work, don't blame Judy for her life, blame louis B. Mayer who once said when Judy was real sick, "I tell her when she's sick, untill then she'll work" you should learn some facts

  • @ActionDramaAdventure Well Mickey got off of the pills & if she'd had him in her life a little more within her later years he could've probably helped her get off them & STAY off of them like he did & unlike all her attempts on trying to kick the habit.

But I always knew it wasn't at all her fault, her bitch mother & the studio kept pushing them on her not giving a damn about her well being even as they were seeing how it was taking a tole on her. No need for insulting me, it was just an IDEA.

  • @localibran she does look good but shes very thin (remember she was only in her early 40's here (she was still addicted to drugs at the time :()

  • @localibran i think she was always beautiful

  • @localibran Not kidding. I ship them retroactively. They were adorable together and he always seemed to make her smile.

  • @localibran i agree wish they had been married. his love would have kept her alive. he made her so happy and vice versa.

  • @localibran Without meaning to sound harsh on anyone, these two were made for each other from the beginning. Simply geniuses, and as long as Judy was alive, best friends in the world. And even beyond that.

And now Mickey is 90. I still think he's one of the greatest performers, and witnesses of Old Hollywood, that we have around. Jackie Cooper (who's also still around, and 88) said he gave up when Mickey Rooney took over.

  • @localibran totally agreed. if they had been together maybe shed still be alive. he wouldve been good for her. sadly he always jus saw her as a friend, even tho she was interested in him.

  • The old fart is still around and still kicking I've heard and next year will be his 90th decade in show biz.... God bless him!!!

  • i know! he's seriously been around since the very first movies. ever. that's insane! he's so great

  • @freshjuice2 , that's funny, "90th decade": quite a ; ) long run on the stage., lol

  • @freshjuice2 Mickie Rooney is 900 years old? He doesn't look a day over 90! lol

  • @Kailoa36

UM......a decade is 10 years, not 100. 100 years is a century. Didn't you learn that in school? He was making movies in the 1920's...these are the 2010's....do the math, that means he has worked in 90 different decades!

    Arguably the greatest actor ever!

  • @mazakman1957 You do your math. 90 X 10 = 900, not 90. He has just completed his 9th decade in life and show biz, and next year begins his 10th decade.

  • Mickey said in 1:28 "You gonna be a big star someday" ... and she became in a world big star!

  • they were amazing, i think they should have married, they were perfect for each other, the great love story that never was

  • theyr'e we go

  • Today is June 22. I believe it was 40 years ago today Judy Garland left us. Watching this leaves no doubt that she was the greatest! And Mickey was damn good, too!

  • I think they dated you should go to mickey rooney fan club thats where you need to know about him more one movie you should watch is It's A MAD MAD MAD MAD World

  • Mickey must have been devastated when Judy died. It would've been great if they really got married.

  • Its like there songs say all about wat they should've done or maybe wanted to do

  • I can't remember but he's still wonder full with that boyish charm

  • The publicity department at MGM sent them out on dates, they were never actually romantic, but they were very close friends.

  • I heard that Judy had a terrific crush on Mickey when they were teenagers making movies together. But she went on to more mature men quickly. She was in love with Artie Shaw, the bandleader, and he up and married Lana Turner, which broke her heart.

  • This is a gem. What a joy to see Judy Garland dance!

  • Silence! Legends at work! Thank you so much for uploading tihs rare video.

  • golly.

    the absolute best.

    :]

  • they r soooo KAYUTE!!!!!!

    i <3 it!!!

  • They dated before course he's a ladies man which he's my fav since I was a pup

He's still married to Jan anyways.

Once I saw a pic of the rooneys going to the awards cermony this year

  • they dated? give me the details

  • This is sweet and sad, why do we all have to get old?

  • fricken awesome!!!

  • Two of the greatest entertainers in any medium at any time. What natural and irresistible chemistry they had. And how blessed we are to have them on film and tape.

  • Amazing Voices.

I love seeing them perform together.

    :))

  • WOW!!! 2 of the Greatest!!

  • two great performers, when he dies they will be reunited in heaven 4 sure

  • i think garland and rooney were the 2 people everyone wished would get together and i'm one of them. they were like best friends and i feel rooney might have been able to help garland

  • I totally agree!! This whole reunion is too flipping adorable! :)

  • I used to think that for years: they were the great love story that never properly finished. But thank God they're reunited here, both older, wiser (?), and still in love with each other some 25 years later.

  • It's amazing that they each married so many times (him more times than her), but never to each other. And while he has said a million times that she was like family to him more than romantic, it's irresistible to think of them matrimonial. 25 years after their screen pairings, they fit right into place here, and seem to know each other better than anyone else did or would. Thanks for this.

  • That is what you call a true MOVIE COUPLE. When old friends reunited and people have that extra warm feeling they experience when they see them meet each other after a long period of time.

  • lol i just saw him in cinderella... he was soo cute he sang two songs but he could hardly get from one side of the stage to the other bless him. x

  • I saw the same pantomime! He was adorable. He looked like he was on strings, didn't he? Poor thing. But if you ask me, for his age, he's still a hell of a man.

Saddest thing though, was at the end of the show when everyone walked down the stairs, he had to enter stage right because there was no way that man was making down that long flight of stairs.

  • Now that's entertainment!!

  • No, that's called the good old days!

  • That's called professional entertainment!

  • I agree it´s splendid...

But her legs seem so skinny. :-O

  • Wonderful! Thanks so much!

I love it when she kicks off her shoes!

It's truly lovely to see the warmth they felt for each other.

  • Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney... gosh! They are a MOVIE! and here they are old but they still being Mickey and Judy.

  • Judy almost looked surprized when he kissed her!!

    How cute!!!!

  • i love this!!

  • They may have changed on the outside in their years of working together, but never on the inside!

  • It's so cute when Mickey kisses her at 0:29. Judy widens her eyes and gives that little look of surprise, just like all the kisses in their films. They're darling together. And Judy Garland has the prettiest smile!

  • The amazing thing is all the stuff that was going on behind the scenes of her TV series, as chronicled by Mel Torme in his book about Judy Garland. He was her musical director of the program (until he was fired). He pulls no punches in his book, boy. The truth hurts, in this case.

  • May I recommend the immaculately researched book, "Rainbow's End" by Coyne Steven Sanders? It is a companion piece (also avaiable separately) to the release of the complete video colletion of the TV show. It contains interviews with everyone who worked on the show except the ladies' room attendant. As producer George Sclatter says of Torme's book, "As an historian, Mel Torme was a great musician."

  • Great tip, Mom. Thank you; I'll look for it. Sometimes in retrospect, though, people give puff-piece "tribute" interviews, especially connected with retrospective product sales. Nothing wrong with tributes; Judy deserved them all. But, there surely was a terribly dark side of the rainbow, as chronicled by not only Mel Torme, but her own daughter, Lorna Luft, who confirmed many of Torme's points.

  • You make a very good point. Good food for thought. People are indeed getting a little soft on the facts as Judy's actual planet Earth years receed. However, I recommended the book because thanks to the extraordinary number of minutely-detailed interviews filled with slams, digs, praise and worship - as well as the factual evidence of the production logs and such, a discerning reader has the opportunity to make up his or her own mind. Also, it's a great read!

  • Sounds like a must-read to me. Thanks.

  • Brilliant piece.

  • "You're so right for me" written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans for the 1958Broadway musical "Oh Captain!" Great song, superior arrangement (Mort Lindsey, most likely). Dig the 16 bar vamp intro...hip stuff. Peggy Lee knocked this number out equally as well on her second "Latin-a-la-Lee album. Check it out.

  • "You're So Right For Me" was actually originally written for the television musical "Satins and Spurs" in 1954, which starred Betty Hutton. Jay Livingston and Ray Evans wrote the score for that production and later re-used the song for "Oh Captain!".

  • So joyous -- makes me smile. That's entertainment.

  • one of my favorite songs

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • These two were amazing! What does our generation have--Britney and Paris?!? not to mention all the other idiots that we have now to call our supposed stars

  • Amazing people that no one will replace, Hands down.

  • I completely agree. I've always said I was born in the wrong generation. People compare Britney to Judy Garland but there is ABOSOLUTELY NO comparison... maybe if she had talent... I wonder where Judy might be today if she were still alive. She was such an amazing entertainer.

  • that's just the problem...judy had too much talent for this generation...hollywood wouldn't know what to do with it...all they want are women who look good in bikinis and men who look good with no shirts on...it matters naught if they have talent

  • That's the truth!

  • shes beautiful here, shes like a ballerina in a music box!

  • It's so wonderful seeing these two together - their both so at ease (was Mickey actually shorter than Judy)?

  • I agree; I love watching the two of them at work! (Mickey was 5'3 to Judy's 4'11 1/2, but I think his slightly stooped posture and her hairdo may have something to do with the difference.) :)

  • enjoy and please comment

  • @inonemus DONE and DID! LUV IT!! ;)
