then cut the strips into the segments that you need. (and you can snip the corners all at once with a grinder, hold them together with rods and bolts (you put holes in them anyway, this will be a cinch)) - At this point you can probably take the liberty of rounding off the points while scales are stacked.
Bang-bang its like simplified a 3 step process in my mind, would this not equate into reality?
@Postghost Your right that would work, but the sheets is got where to large, 5ftx3ft. The sheers would go so far before they stop, espically with the 16 gauge, they could never slice through the whole sheet. As for the grinding, you're right about that. I just got so use to snipping them with the hand sheers that it became habit. Next time I'll try it. Thanks
@Adrast tried that once. No matter how tight I thouch I had the clamp down the whole sheet would still vibrate all over the place. After ten minutes I just gave up on it. Wished it worked though, because of what you said.
@Polymarkos "Mail" comes from "Maille", which comes from the Latin word "macula". Macula translates into "mesh" or "net". Scalemaille or Scalemail is the proper word.
@BigMac762 Show me in ONE SINGLE MEDIEVAL manuscript actual medieval people referring to scale armor as 'scalemail.' That's a ridiculous modern affectation stemming from role playing games, and NOT any kind of historically contextual term.
@Polymarkos Well If you have $700 plus dollars to give me to buy a throatless shear I will gladly buy one. Your right Scale "mail" is a D&D term for Lorcia Squamata but the mistermnology got me 4,000+ views for this, which I want to thank everyone for watching this small video. My video I can babble on for as long as I want if you don't want to watch it you don't have to or fast forward through it find the parts you like.
This is a very nice tut, you speack clearly and explain why you do and do not do things things 5 stars! One thing is though you said there is going to be more tuts about cheap armour other then chainmaille. Just wondering what other tuts will you be making?
@Camronas Thanks for the comment. I put one up on how to make Lamellar armor, I'm planning how to make maille rings from scratch before the winter. Because once winter comes I'm doing anything until spring, it's cold in that garage :).
@Schuler001 Cool iv made some chian maille before was pretty fun, was hoping to move onto somthing bigger, only issue is money :( cant afford things like the drill press or anvils. Still love you videos and cant wait to see what else you make, there are some crazy armours out there
@metalgear523 Honestly man. I don't know. I was lucky enough to know people that got me my metal. I wish I could help you.

Why don't you just make the scales this way--
cut the plate into the strips the width you need,
then cut the strips into the segments that you need. (and you can snip the corners all at once with a grinder, hold them together with rods and bolts (you put holes in them anyway, this will be a cinch)) - At this point you can probably take the liberty of rounding off the points while scales are stacked.

Good tutorial! One thing though- clamp the steel! It will make cutting it a lot easier, safer and will give you better results!

A) Get to the point.
B) Scale 'mail'? Get out of DnD.
C) Beverly shears. Look into 'em.
