  • I HATE when they say it's a "motion picture event"... it's a movie damn it.

  • Who gave joan veljean a second chance? hehe

  • aaa the time when they had deep voiced narrators

  • an epic book and an epic movie

  • Who has time to read a 1,400 page book the movie gets to the point a thriller that forgets secondary stories, Great Movies why wasnt nominated for an oscar?

  • @INS0LENTEEE The movie doesnt get to the point. From the moment that Fantine dies, the whole story is distorted. All the depth of the caracters is lost. The meaning of the story is ruined. 95% of the content is missing. Not a bad movie, but not even close to the book. And what is this idiotic question: 'who has time to read a 1400 page book'? Millions and millions found the time to read it. Maybe you should to.

  • WHERE IS EPONINE?!

  • I loved this movie and I love Liam

  • Why Javert did that 1:59?

  • @xStalkerxx My take on it is because he knew that he was obsessed with this man and he could never be free from it. After all of these years he finally caught this man perhaps that was his life's goal and now it was fulfilled. I dont think he could ever be free from the hate he felt for this man. Maybe someone else has another take. It was an excellent movie...

  • @lavvy2585 SPOILER ALERT No, he did it because he cannot do the right thing. He believes that Valjean is guilty and must be arrested, but he also thinks that he is a good man and that it is wrong to arrest a good man. He says that he tried to live his life without breaking a single rule. He would be doing wrong if he did either, so he killed himself and told the police that he killed Valjean. This means that he is no longer on the run and is free.

  • @tg72211 Thanks for explaining but I am confused than ever.

  • @lavvy2585 You may need to read the book.

  • @tg72211 Thanks funny my coworker told me to read the book but it looks thick. I will order one from ebay thank you so much.

  • @lavvy2585 In the book its crytal clear. Javert is in dilemma. His whole life is about maintaining order. Order of law, moral order. For him the two never collide. The movie depicts him as a bit sadistic, filled with hate. Thats not in book. It misses the point. The dilema is the following: The crime of arresting this man or the crime of letting him go. It isnt a personnal matter. The order of the world collapses with this dilemma. Its fuckin epic in the book.

  • @LesageMathieu I hope there is an audiobook I would love to get the whole story because I loved the movie

  • im surprise maruis wasn't in the credits, he was a main charcter.

  • currently reading the novel, its really great and sad at the same time.

  • does this movie have the songs in it ? :s

  • the pronunciation of les miserables is soo american :D

  • @helyhey les mis is french and it will always go back to france. my worst fear is that everbody will think its american

  • this is the latest cast list for the 2012 musical movie version

Anne Hathaway asFantine (as long as she is BLOND maby ok)

    Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean

    Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert

Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier (i can see her as a perfic)

Geoffrey Rush as Monsieur Thenardier (rumored) played javert in 98

    Eddie Redmayne asMarius (rumored)

    Jonathan Groff as Enjolras

now who i think shuld be gavroch Asa Butterfield (Merlin, nanny mcphee, reterns and hugo)

  • Comment removed

  • get real here. this movie had so much potential with all the shit load of talent, but sadley it wasn't them or the directors fault it was the screenwriters...i mean who the hell decides to make this script into a movie??? the whole point of les mis is its about all these different characters who are all connected and who's actions effect each other's lives. they took out eponine. hardly used the thenardiers and changed the ending. next time ur gonna ruina movie mr writer dont chose this one

  • So it looks like we have Quigon Gin, Captian Barobsa, Beatrix Kiddo, and Juliet, Nice!

  • i've red the book! I wanna watch it!

  • sure just take out Eponine and Gavroche as well as other characters! Clearly they did not contribute to the original book at all. I appreciate that made a movie of this wonderful story but to remove important characters is terrible

  • @illsen12345 no they both contribute in the book so thay need to stay eponine was the other woman in marius' life and Cosette life when young girl gavroche is the one who delivers Marius' farwell letter and fights along side and gathers more ammo for the baacade theanders need to stay becus to show the darkside twisted side if the story have you taken the time to read the book all 2000+pages?

  • @illsen12345 gavroche is in the movie.

  • Wheres Gavroche??? D:

  • @ElderstonecloakHallo he is in the movie, but not in the trailer.

  • I loved the film, would have loved to see the musical and know i will love the book when i get around to reading it!

  • @madyb94 yr in for a rude awakening,.while good, the movie just tells you half the book. better save some kleenex for the final chapters, i'm just saying...

  • @Fenrir2901 thanks for the tip! :)

  • currently reading teh book, just as a bit of light reading ;)

  • ''He is not Jean Valjean becaus I am Jean Valjean''

  • Saw the musical LOOOOOOVED it, Saaw the movie, thought it was awsome.... Reading the book..... ITS OVER 1000 PAGES!!!!!

  • i'm upset by the fact that a scene in the trailer showing Jean Valjean falling on his knees and tearing his yellow passport was cut from the film. At 2/1/2 hours, the movie simply does not do justice to the novel, niether has the well-regarded 1935 version starring Frederic March and Charles Laughton. whoever wrote the screenplay obviously did not read the novel thoroughly.

  • reading this at the moment amazing and looking forward to watching the movie :)

  • I saw this movie in last year's english class. It's actually really good. (: book is alright too.

  • I'm watching this at school. I cried during class haha

  • WE HAVE 2 DO THIS AT SKUL REALLY ???? OH COME ON :|

  • @costar28 Sounds like you need to stay in "skul" for a long time...

  • this movie looks sad, and dark...

    im not watching this...

  • @Darkmaxmuk not really its a fucking wicked movie

  • @Darkmaxmuk AHAHAHA i don't know why i got such a hoot out of your comment.

  • 00:29 Deleted Scene

  • Can you please the Les Miserables 1998 teaser trailer?

  • lol 1:30 "I KNEWWW ITTT!"

  • @Moppa824 I love that! lol

  • watching this movie is like experiencing salvation. just beautiful :)

  • @iMayEatYourPeople I think Victor Hugo had salvation much in mind when he penned the novel.

  • Wow, if you saw this trailer then and were a fan of the musical they so would have trolled me thinking this actually was a musical film version :P

  • our class watched this last week...now we have to make a movie review.....

boy classmate: favorite line in the movie: "i want cash this time" XD perverts!

  • After this book (Les miserables) I am ready to stop watching movies and start to read only books. It's way better!! Movies are always not good enough if you have read the book.

  • @DarkKiss92

Forget the book (It's free on itunes, btw), go see the musical!

  • @icheckhockey

The book is the foundation on which the musical exists.

    It can never be forgotten.

  • @ivlfounder

The musical still pulled off the story better.

  • @icheckhockey

Since it can only be compared to the original I'm not sure we can say that.

  • academy award winner Liam Neeson, academy award Uma Thurman, academy award Geofrey Rush, and... claire danes.

  • @kyba74 Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman are just nominees, not winners. HUGE difference.

  • @kistajk Uma won with Kill Bill. Fuck it, know-it-all

  • @danielmondana Yeah, not with this one and not before this one.

  • @kistajk She didn't even win with Kill Bill, bastard. FUCK YOU.

  • @danielmondana ok, guess you know everything about Uma then, good on you pathetic hater. Ta.

  • @kyba74 do you mean claire danes didn't act well?

  • @MrYahya0101 He/she means that when they were saying the actors' names it sounded kind of funny because all of them had won/been nominated for an Academy Award except for Claire Danes, which kind of made her sound inferior to the other actors.

  • @MrYahya0101 claire danes is a great actress, she is in lots of movies!

  • you gotta be kidding me. I didnt remember the story, but after watching this trailer I dont even need to see the movie cause it shots everything.

  • valjean is my favorite character in literature. period. this is the first film adaptation that i've ever se.en Liam neeson will always be jean valjean for me and geoffrey rush will always be javert. the musicals are great...but this movie got me interested in the whole les miserables thing to begin with. i got it for my bday lol.

  • reed the book, this is shit

  • @karajun1 you mean read the french version, this & the english version are nothing!!

Read the Epic French version.. too long but it worth it!!

    Best story of all time!!

  • @ryan24h

I might just take it on

  • 1:30 = epic Javert moment! haha! i laughed out loud!

  • OMG! i didn't know clare danes was cosette in this! i saw her in romeo and juliet and in stardust and she was amazing in both of those! two of the most amazing things in the world; care danes and les mis put together= pure epicness. now i have 2 see this movie even if Eponine is not in it and i don't like uma Thurman as Fantine (who is the best character in my opinion) this is awesome!

  • This movie sucks

I think it's the worst representation ever made cause there is nothing like in the novel

  • Javert was never a despicable character to begin with. He lives by a strict moral code an acts as an avatar of justice, something which few can actually claim... And personally, I'd hunt the man who tried to escape his sentencing four times, as well.

  • Geoffrey Rush will last forever in the memory of those who love cinema because of this breathtaking performance as Inspector Javert; thanks to his class and talent, he managed to turn a despicable character into an appreciable and respectable character..

  • What about Gavroche?

  • Why would they make a Les Misérables movie and not put Eponíne in it?!

  • @lauren4561001 idk i love her story and part in the story but maybe becaoues it has to do more with Jean Valjean so they didnt add her .... in the play she is with marius ... idk know why???

  • @finaltorment it's FANTINE

  • GEOFFREY RUSH <3

  • @RosieAlaska

Geoffrey Rush will last forever in the memory of those who love cinema because of this breathtaking performance as Inspector Javert; thanks to his class and talent, he managed to turn a despicable character into an appreciable and respectable character..

  • I KNEW IT!!!!!!

  • @ars23enal there is no eponine in this version

  • @hannahmontana0161 Isn't that Foncine ? (Uma Thurman)

  • where's eponine?

  • Estoy leyendo el libro veré que tal la pelicula

  • it's strange, but i LOVE Javert!

  • this version is awful and i'll tell you why:

They cut out Enjoras and Eponine, they made Javert evil and Marius some revolution looney. Javert was never evil in the book, and Marius wasn't really into the revelution, Uma Thurman makes a terrible Fantine and it doesn't end right. This is the most innacurate version I've ever seen. Thenardier's only appear up for one moment. Javert is evil up until he dies, which makes no sense. Goddamn it, this movie is for Les Mis haters only. Not a fan movie

  • @allthemusic111 actually enjoras was in the movie. he just didn't have big part.

  • @dirty06maggot don't care, it sucked anyway, lol. Enjolras still wasn't done well, and neither was any of the characters

  • though eponine is sadly not in this i think it looks good. wud have never have thought of uma thurman ar fantinea

  • Geoffrey Rush is an art in that movie!

  • @stevesangkim no he's not! He plays Javert like he was evil or something. Javert was meant to be a stern police officer which is only trying to help the greater good. Maybe he would make a good Javert, but I don't see it here.

  • They're going to make Valjean into the hero, when we all know it's Eponine(; lol but seriously, is Eponine even in this? If she's not, I'm not watching.

  • lmfao this is bull shit. this isnt the 1 by cameron macentosh, sry. i dont really care. thats why its funnaaayyy

  • is Eponnie in this version?!

  • @PrincessBelle104 no, she's cut out.

  • I wish they could've included everyone (Éponine, Enjolras, etc...), but I have to stay I still enjoyed the movie. I believe it was possible to have everyone... except it would've cost them a lot... :/

  • Liam Neeson FTW

  • Marius guy in this movie is HOT

  • @JoeJonasLover989 i know hes beautiful, gorgeous! i love all the actors in this, especially the bad guy who i hated so much, hes such a good actor!

  • "I kneeeeew it!" He sounded like a little kid xD

Love how they didn't mention any of the other MAJOR characters. Psh, the musical is way better.

  • @Mysteryand i wonder if there's some dvd of the musical available...

  • Yay! Claire danes

  • Everyone always freaks out because Eponine's not in it, but when you think about it it's way better that they left her out. The movie is long enough already, you don't need to throw the Marius-Eponine-Cosette love triangle in there (it's not really even a love triangle, just Eponine pining over Marius) and to have her show up randomly and then die dramatically does not work. In a shorter film version, you want the audience to be rooting for Cosette and Marius anyways, not the evil stepsister.

  • @daffodil977 Personally, I love Eponine, but I didn't even miss her in this version. Yeah, I would be made if she was somehow cut from the musical version (On My Own and A Little Fall of Rain are two of my favorite songs), but this was fine. It makes Cosette more likable anyway.

  • @PhantomSongbird Yeah, and it would have been really awkward to introduce her as the mean stepsister and then later have her back in (but not mean anymore) and then have her stalking Marius. Everyone would hate her because they would see her as the girl who was mean to Cosette as a kid and then comes back to ruin her love life. Besides, there isn't enough time to give Eponine the development she deserves. She's not essential, therefore gets the chopping block.

  • @daffodil977 You have a point there: I myself loved Éponine(though Gavroche and Fantine were my favourites), so while I might have cried bitterly when she died, I don't think the movie could have given her the deep and complex persona that she deserves.

  • @PhantomSongbird It's funny how in the book I think Gillnormand actually has a larger part and yet he was cut oh well. They go for the lovesick 16 year old and not the hardy old 90 year old I guess.

  • Great movie, very happy that I saw it before watching the trailer.

  • muy buena.

  • muy buena

  • Is this any good? I've seen the play many times and always wanted a version to watch at home, maybe this could be it?

  • @aquarioshinso read the book? haha do you really want someone to spoil it for you on youtube? cuz i could, but i'd rather not

  • the shot of Javert's face when he says, "An honest man has nothing to fear from the truth" and the shot of Javert yelling out "Valjean" and firing at Jean Valjean and Cosette are not in the film (instead, the shot of the first bit is from behind, and we only hear the shot of Javert's pistol as he yells out "Valjean.") Also, the scene where Jean Valjean falls on his knees and tears up his passport is not in the film. Why were these bits cut from the film?

  • @BibleJoker2Face um because it got cup in post-production? Not everything they show ends up in the final cut you know.

  • @laurapoole1989, yea, well I wanna know why these bits were cut from the film in post-production.

  • @BibleJoker2Face you'd have to ask the director, producer, executives, whoever makes those decisions. I wouldn't think too much on why things get cut from movies it's just standard. You just can't fit all the months or years of filming into an hour and half, two hours, or however much time an audience is used to. The audience drives the industry and vice-versa. There's always cuts. It's hard deciding what has to go and what gets to stay. Just enjoy the final product.

  • is it still the sam story line as the

    musical

  • @homunculi0408

    The miserable ones.

  • What does Les Miserables mean?

  • @homunculi0408 The Miserable

  • this movie touched my life to a point where my heart beats faster everytime i hear the name les miserables

  • I've seen the musical and it was WONDELFUL!!! Probably the best musical I've ever seen with beautiful and majestic songs.

  • can someone tell me what this movies about just a quick review about it i want to watch it..seems interesting...but not sure

  • @BibleJoker2Face I have seen the whole movie and they changed so much of it. I was so excited to go see it and left so disappointed. the put some stuff in that was not in the book. If you only seen is what you said in my message than I could see how you thought it was well done. let me know what you think after you seen the rest of it. I have seen the 57 and and yes that was more of the story. Can wait until someone decides to make it into a mini series and puts more in.

  • @proudmomm I've not read the book but I did watch the movie. Found it nice enough to warrant a reading of the book. So i guess it works the other way round sometimes...

  • this was horrible. They cut out Eponine who is so vital to the story, and they just plain screwed up Victor Hugos wonderful story.

  • @proudmomm, I don't think this version is horrible. I think it's really good (I've not seen the entire movie, just bits of what I could on this site, excluding the ending,Valjean's escape with Cosette from where they live after leaving the convent, Valjean rescuing Cosette from the Thernardiers, the fight at the barricades and Valjean saving Marius). I think it simplifies the story, WITHOUT sacrificing its heart. You want to see a film version that sticks to the novel, see the 1957 French film.

  • what's the music that plays when Jean Valjean says "They took my dignity"?

  • i haven't yet seen the movie, but i know that the scene where Jean Valjean tears up his yellow passport is not in the movie. Why was it cut from the film?

  • Today I watched this movie,such a good movie...

  • Have they cut out Eponine?!

  • @jessgrog Yep, no Eponine in the movie

  • Haven't seen this movie yet, but is there any singing part?

  • @TheLawllyPop No, no music, just a movie

  • Marius is so cute....

  • the old version is better

  • Huh??? where is Eponine???they left her out!!!do they know.. this novel wouldn't be complete without her?

  • 23 people can't hear the people sing. Oh, shit, wrong version. ;)

  • @EYDstudios hahaha!! I love it!!

  • 23 people didn't hear the people singing the song of angry men.

  • I couldn't STAND how awful this movie was. I had to stop watching it

  • I love this book and I think the movie is worse too much.

    :)

  • I love this book and I think the movie is wors too much.

    :)

  • mmmmm the historii is .... like sad?? true ????

  • I have totally fallen in love with this movie!!!

  • They left Eponine out. This infuriates me.

  • I KNEW IT!!

  • Ah, Geoffrey Rush for the win :D

  • ooooooo..me gustó esta pelicula...es muy buena... la obra debe ser mucho mejor...

  • I love how they say that the actors are all academy awarded except the last one xD btw there were 666 comments here now :o

  • @Musical1997 No, it is a Live Life Version Quite Epic thou

  • 23 People Are RETARTED !

  • @ART1975CZ *Retarded

  • @ART1975CZ Don't say "retarded", it makes you look like a huge douche bag and very unintelligent. Also, this is the internt, filled with millions of people, millions of people who know or have family members with mentally challenge friends or family members. Like me.

  • @ART1975CZ you mispelled retarded

  • I love Liam Neeson's version.

  • I would have been perfect... if they included Eponine...

  • @HappyThoughtsToU they left her out????? is it worth the watch now?

  • @Vampires22 Well to be fair, I did like it... but it's not the same without her. You should watch it though because it's very good, it's on Youtube here some where. And look out for the 2011 "Les Miserables-The Musical" Film... I'm sure Cameron wont leave Eponine out, plus it's rumoured to have a cameo from all the original cast. No word on the cast yet but I'm really exited! x x

  • my best movie EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
