  • I have an appreciation for all these actors and shows from that era. She also played in 'Hang 'Em High' with Clint. Was shocked to find out about her sudden death. Just can't understand it. Sounded like she lived with some demons she just couldn't conquer. A terrible shame. Good actress who hadn't even given herself a chance to realize her great potential.

  • Greetings - just a note about comment posting. I have retained comment approval on the videos that pertain to Inger Stevens. There may be a delay in seeing your comment appear. Sometimes I just plain miss seeing them, and sometimes I don't approve them at all. Inger is survived by many friends and family and, as these videos are intended as a memorial to her, I simply want to keep things as clean as one would expect at any memorial. Thanks, and hope you understand.

  • Some brilliant writing in these old episodes. Funny, when I recant a line of wisdom from period shows of this era, my twenty to forty something coworkers sigh, and drift into some sort of smiling Shakespearean romanticism, the likes of which you just cannot imagine. So much of the beauty of our language is lost in the pace of this techno-text world. Sad indeed.

  • @rickey5353 Well said. It is truly scary what we seem to have forgotten, lost completely, or just don't care about.

  • So many people say this woman was beautiful and I think they are right. I have seen her in a few programs and she is incredibly talented. She is also just about the most beautiful actresses I have ever seen. Short hair looked so good on her too. It's a shame she is no longer alive to hear all this, it would have been good for her ego. Such a sad lady; it really shows in her face rather to much to be just mere acting. I know from experience just how dreadful depression feels. Here's to you Inger!

  • @27182818R Thanks for the kind words - I, too, wish she could hear them. She was overwhelmingly attractive for sure, but also such a precious person. Yes, fortunate are those who have never experienced serious depression (and certainly hope you don't.) I'm not qualified to diagnose Inger's mental health, but although she may have had her sad side, remember too her incredibly sunny persona - that was the first impression she made on so many of us who grew up watching her.

  • This show was hypnotic. I was ten but still I was transfixed. WHY can't some network syndicate THIS perfect show so we could enjoy it now, rather than the CRAP they show over and over and over and over and over...??????

What, are the films of this show rotting and molding in some vault??? WHY waste them????? Grrrrrrrrr..........

  • @67rml Grrr indeed! I understand your frustration and you have many sympathizers I'm sure. I wish I had some answers. All I know for sure is that you can get DVD's of many, if not all, episodes of Route 66. So that means that the series is at least digitally preserved to that degree. As a fellow Baby-boomer, and experiencing it as you did, and remembering it as you do ... well, say no more. Just glad we had it, no? :-)

  • @sseklof

Same thing for the little younger boomer, Then Came Bronson.

  • @67rml I would like to "like" this about 40 thousand times. My thoughts exactly!!! I was madly in love with Inger Stevens...hell, I may still be. High heels and a skirt in the dessert...the world was once upon a time a better place.

  • @67rml Check your local broadcasting area to see if you can receive RTV (Retro Television) & METV (Memorable Entertainment Television) because they are airing this show on those channels. It is also now available on DVD, although I believe only the first 3 Seasons so far. I use a TV antenna to get the free digital broadcast signal in my area to watch this & other great classic shows like "Run for Your Life" & "The Fugitive". Along with other 70's classics like "Quincy, M.E." & "Kojak".Good luck!

  • Inger's niece, Athena Ashburn and her husband, now have their own You Tube channel - 20DollarShow. See three original episodes that feature a Twilight Zone flavored mix of eerie story lines delivering a timely social comment. Also see the article on Inger Stevens done by Gary brumburgh in the May issue of Classic Images magazine and visit his You Tube channel - gbrumburgh.

  • Inger Stevens was HOT when hot was not allowed on TV.

    She just couldn't help it.

  • Today, April 30, is a day many of us take to remember Inger Stevens.

Here's to you, Inger. Lovely lady!

Also a toast to everyone who makes an effort to keep Inger's memory alive - on You Tube and elsewhere:

lemster2024, swifty079, northbreed1a, baybea, dentelTV1 - Jerry, Brent, Gary, Athena, Samuel, Santiago and so many others - everyone!

See lemster2024's upload of the marriage of Katy Holstrum, The Farmer's Daughter - new today!

  • Whatever the overused term charisma really means, Inger Stevens had it in spades!!! Every male I knew was madly in love with her, and even though I was female I could never hate her for it, rather understand the magic that they felt. She had an aura

  • @brizpeg47 Well said! When I first used to see her on TV, I was too young to be madly in love with her - just liked her pleasant, sunny persona. But yeah, at this point in my life, that's what I'd be. Ha! Many of us still ARE madly in love with her - obviously!

  • I just doesn't get better than Inger. Dammit was was gone too soon.

  • @settings99 Yeah, people like myself who grew up watching her in TV and movies miss her - her beauty, talent, and personality. She was highly thought of by her peers. Most importantly though, she had the kind of heart and mind that the world needs more of.

  • @sseklof Wow, i just saw all the typos in my original post. But you know what I meant. I first saw Inger in Hang Em High and basically fell in love with her. I bought the movie because of her actually.

  • @settings99 Ha! Yep, in this time compressed cyberspace era, grammar gets truncated, if not rendered obsolete or quaint at least. Yes, a lot of us have fallen in love with her - an incredibly and uniquely attractive woman - and person.

  • Take a moment today - Monday, October 18, her birthday - to think of Inger. Still remembered, still loved, still missed.

  • THANKS for posting this clip & giving us all that groovy background info about the show & the late great Ms Stevens.....a truly gifted actress who is still missed by all those who grew to love her talent & beauty. You've MADE my day! :)

  • @JubalCalif Actually, comments like yours make MY day - so my thanks to you!

  • @sseklof

You are MORE than welcome...since you're an Inger Stevens fan, you're OBVIOUSLY a person of rare refinement, distinction & intelligence!!!

  • @JubalCalif Ha! I wish. But then, even a dullard with a wooden psyche would be stirred to passion by Inger - an exceptionally decent person with a very dear and tender soul, and a keen intellect - all wrapped in the package of a beautiful woman. Besides, it indulges the sentimental romantic in me to imagine that she would be very moved to know that many people still think of her and admire her 40 years after her death.

  • @sseklof

I second that emotion, sseklof! Very well put! She was often an underated actress who was often underused by the industry. I'm sure knowing she an an articulate fan like you would have warmed her heart!!!

  • @JubalCalif Thank you very kindly. Underrated and underused in her time perhaps, but many of us shall see what we can do to insure she does not go unremembered or unappreciated. Marachek, lemster2024 (Jerry Lem), northbreed1, swifty079, Gary Brumburgh, her niece Athena Ashburn, her nephew Samuel Rubinstein, baybea - and more new contributors all the time.

  • @sseklof

THANKS a million to you & all the others for all your hard work in keeping the flame alive in honor of the late great Inger! You're doing an absolutely awesome job!!! :)

  • Be sure to check out a new Inger Stevens tribute "Still More Inger Stevens" posted by my fellow Inger fan lemster2024. He is curator of the Inger Stevens Memorial web site. His tribute features some rarely seen photos plus an audio clip of Inger singing a traditional Scandinavian lullaby.

  • Someone needs to do a tandem tribute to Inger Stevens and Jean Seberg here. Two actresses of comparable fate and beauty. I would love to see a quality video of that.

  • I have to admit, I Loved Inger Stevens. To me she was a "Sultry Blonde", just pretty. Loved the TZ episode of the Hitch Hiker, as a kid we had a Mercury sim to the one she drove in the episode. Also, Loved "Farmer's Daugter", (1963-1966) was one of my favorite shows. Inger Stevens, Lee Remick, Donna Reed, were some of Favorites of the 1960's. Of Course Audrey Hepburn is the ultimate of the 1960's. Thanks for sharing the past of Inger, she is much loved in my book.

  • @Heiseyman Thanks for sharing. Whenever I saw Inger on TV as a kid I just instantly liked her - like when you meet someone and feel an instant and real connection. I really never knew much about her when she was alive. As I have learned what kind of person she was, I too have come to love her. Human she was, with flaws, but to me the most all-around attractive woman I ever saw.

  • @Heiseyman so you had a 59 merc?...i know the tz you are talking about..it was always my favorite tz ,,,,did you notice the merc she drove had no side vent windows in it???..i guess they were removed so the camera didnt show up on them in reflection ....i was born in 1965..but i always thought she was a pretty lady

  • I was crushed when she killed herself......So beautiful and so graceful.............RIP

  • Thank you very much for your support and spreading the word out on the series. Coming from a true TZ fan and my aunt that means the world! It means a lot to me and my family that there are fans like you that highlight Inger's beauty and talent. Much thanks! I look forward to you watching up-coming episodes. All the best to you!

  • My pleasure! I think Jerry Lem (Inger's Memorial Web Site) said it best:

"She deserves our best efforts." I think that is the highest compliment we can pay your aunt, as well as the truest. These efforts are our way to try and give back in the only we can. Much success to you!

  • Honor guard freak, eh sseklof?

  • Beautiful woman. I'm still young, and I don't know what it is but it seems like the beautiful women of many years ago are so much more attractive to me than many of the women of today. Something about them.

Anyway, she's awesome in this, and a fine actress!

  • Well, being an old guy, I tend to agree. Of course there are many beautiful women today too. Personally though, for me, I guess Inger will always be the ideal feminine. In body, mind, and soul the most attractive woman I ever saw. Almost glad I was never around her in person - would have been fatally smitten!

  • Inger Stevens also starred in the original Twilight Zone episode, "The Hitchhiker", around this time.

  • @Teflon65 This is my late Aunt Inger Stevens!! My new science fiction web series "20 Dollar" pays homage to her in the first episode (Life Is Priceless) from this famous episode of The Hitch Hiker.

  • @20DollarShow Thanks for viewing and commenting. When it comes from a family member, it is always treasured by all of us Inger fans. There are a great many TZ fans of the Hitch Hiker as I am sure you know and as evidenced by the number of views here on You Tube of swifty079's uploads. Best of luck with your new web series - we'll be watching!

  • I just viewed two episodes on 20 Dollar. "Life Is Priceless" indeed has cues from The Hitch Hiker with Inger's niece, Athena (Stensland) Ashburn, in the lead role. The other episode, "Temet Nosce" has a decidedly TZ flair as well. I am posting a link to "Life Is Priceless" in the information box under all the videos on my channel. 20 Dollar seeks to compete with conventional TV. Check 'em out!

  • The video author - sseklof - that's me, retains control over comments posted. To keep things respectful to Inger's memory, I screen comments. Not to dismiss controversy but because this is not the place to prove or disprove history. Therefore, I don't allow many comments concerning her death or relationships. Many people come here to fondly remember - and that is my main priority here.

  • She was so pretty shame she died so young.. Drug overdose 1970

  • Inger was married to a negro from 1961 till her death. This didn't stop her from bedding Bing Crosby, Anthony Quinn, Harry Belafonte, Mario Lanza, Dean Martin, Burt Reynolds and numerous others.

  • Inger's second husband was Ike Jones who, according to IMDB, was the first African American to graduate from UCLA's film school. He worked for Nat Cole until the singer's death. I retain comment approval on these videos - not to dodge controversial comments, nor to portray Inger as impossibly perfect. She was human. Quoting Jerry Lem's observation, "She led with her heart." And a very big heart it was. That is why she is worth remembering and why I don't indulge seamy Hollywood gossip here.

  • @weirdbeard63 :

You have some personal issue. Firstly nobody uses that word “negro” anymore and it can be considered condescending. He has a name and his name is Ike Jones.

Secondly there were no "proof" they were actually married (no certificate and the place of marriage, Tijuana did not have any record of the marriage either) but they had an almost decade long relationship her longest. I cannot explain why she had so many "adulterous" relationships with married men.

  • @Floyd005 Thank you for commenting Floyd and let me respond candidly and briefly due to word limits. There are 3 areas of controversy associated with Inger: her marriage to an African-American, her alleged affairs, and her death. I never want to appear to be avoiding these issues but these YT comments are just not a suitable forum for such debates. I retain comment approval because I want this to be a place to remember and honor Inger. I tend to ignore comments that could poison that purpose.

  • @Floyd Continuing, Inger's brother testified in court to the validity of her marriage - good enough for me. I won't even touch the race and "negro" issue here, but suggest such exchanges be held between you and the other commenter privately. RE affairs: Wasn't there, don't know, none of my business. Hollywood notoriously hypes affairs for publicity. Any affairs she may have had, well, Inger led with her heart, an explanation not a justification. Let he or she among us cast the first stone.

  • Edgar Buchannon reminiscent of the

movie "Treasue of the Sierra Madre",

certainly one of the most familiar figures

    in Hollywood.

  • What a beautiful woman , and wonderful actress. I remember hearing of her death when I was only 13 or so. Most likely her depression would be treated successfully today. Such a waste .

  • Obviously I agree with the beautiful and wonderful. But I can't associate the word waste with Inger - even concerning her death (which I won't discuss on You Tube). All of us are finite - it's what you do with the time while you're here. Inger made significant, positive, and lasting contributions. Can't do better than that !

  • Edgar Buchanon........the biggest bullshitter in Hollywood.

  • If true, it apparently served him well in Hollywood where he made the transition from practicing dentist to successful actor. Judging by his prolific career, he must have had something more substantive to go along with it.

  • Of course, I was short in suggesting that

he is a BS'r. If I may, he is certainly a

study in demeanor and innuendo and seemed to pose as a (background) influence as an eavesdropper, setting the scene as a questionable source of wisdom as he certainly does with impunity. This might have been his "mark" as my former comment suggested, not that he would be an illegitimate performer. I love watching him.

  • Sorry I was getting a little sanctimonious there - (thank God for dictionaries). ;-) I kinda figured you were referring to his style but I'm defensive, by habit, concerning You Tube comments. Thanks for commenting!

  • An open question to anyone who knows or would be interested: April 30, 2010 will be the 40th anniversary of Inger's passing. I wonder if there will be any kind of ceremony - perhaps comparable to the annual Marilyn Monroe Memorials held each August in L.A. They are well attended and overall very affectionate. I would like to see this for Inger as well.

Anyone know, or care to comment?

  • Inger Stevens.......Va Va Va VOOM!!

  • OMG!! It's Uncle Joe Carson!!!

  • Yup. Now we know what he was doing before moving to the Shady Rest Hotel near Hooterville. Betty Jo, Bobby Jo, and Billie Jo. Hooterville? Hmmm .... surely they didn't presage the restaurant chain. Nah, those were more innocent times.

  • I had such a crush with Inger Stevens when I was Younger! I now have a girl friend from Sweden who looks and acts just like her! (I am in America) BUT ! there will never be another Inger Stevens! Rest in peace Inger Stevens

  • Although Inger's talent and beauty were obvious, I think all evidence indicates she was embodied of an uncommonly decent and tender soul. All of us are unique and none of us are permanent, and since your girlfriend sounds delightful, all the more reason to treasure your relationship.

  • The Swedes are a great people. For those of y'all who took high school German, you'll find that, what with having both English and German, you'll be able to figure out a lot of Swedish, which is rather closely related to English and even closer to Old English.

  • Yes, Inger Stevens is so amazing, I bet I've watched "The Lateness of The Hour" ten times so far. I loved her in her 2nd Twilght Zone episode, "The Hitchhiker" also. She was so special.

  • Miss Stevens Is A Fine Actress. I Love Her And I Adored Her.

She And Mr. Duel Had This Unique Dimples

  • I certainly understand and share your adoration Jomei2810. Besides beauty, talent, and personality, Inger had that rarest of qualities - a truly kind and decent soul.
