  • @aeriskitchen yeah i man how many kimchi? sorry ^^"

  • @BlackHeart0727

you mean.. the amount of kimchi for this recipe ?? I used 1 cup well fermented kimchi. ^^

  • Make jajjangmyeon! or 자장면

  • @heartsaandhearts

I have a video for it. please search "Korean Food: Jja-jang Bob (짜장밥)"

  • and they have bow legs!

  • korleans are spakking verly verly strangeh!

  • I will try it soon...

I just bought kimchi from one of the Korean stores here... (i don't have time to prepare it, so i just bought 1/2 kl.) I have tasted kimchi jeon, just once, when we went to a Korean restaurant in Prague and my husband likes it so much... I promised him to cook it... thanks... i found your recipe ... gamsahamnida "aeriskitchen"... thank you so much for bringing Korea's cuisine close to our kitchen ;)) mwwuuuaaahhh...

  • Humm, i shall try to make kimchi pancake, looks delicious!

  • Wat is frying mix, where can i get it

  • @mizzcachon

frying mix is.. specially made for deep frying food... it's mainly flour with other powder..for some extra flavor ..and deep frying texture.. you can find it at Korean grocery store.

  • @aeriskitchen The frying mix is most likely flour and baking powder or baking soda

  • Thank you so much for this recipe..my korean husband really love this dish :)

  • Why cant you be my wife!! =((

  • Whats Kimchi broth??

  • @strawberryjam161

it's the liquid you get in kimchi jar ... when the kimchi get fermented.. it will make liquid.. that's kimchi broth i called..

  • Enjoyed your kimchi pancake tutorial, very easy to follow. You are both very funny. I love kimchi! Could you please make a tutorial on how to make sweet rice cakes and include substitutions? I went to Korean market in Corpus Christi Texas, and bought sweet rice cakes--- soooooo delicious! I watch Korean dramas on computer every night and love them. There's no profanity, or nudity; very enjoyable. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING. Love you here in Texas!

  • @coracao55

I wonder what kind of rice cakes you tried..but I will add your request to my list.. thanks :)

  • Can I skip the Kimchi broth over??? dont have it=)

  • @Myushifu

then.. you might want to increase the kimchi amount a little more for flavor..

  • Can I skip the kimchi base, I dont have it=)

  • hi, when i go out and eat kimchi or seafood pancake in Korean restaurant, they usually come with some sauce (i think made of soy sauce), can u show me how to make the sauce thanks a lot :))

  • @k3nt1989

i will add it to my list.. thanks

  • Where can i buy kimchi broth? I know where to buy kimchi but i don't know if there is kimchi broth.

  • @elizendria

Kimchi broth is..the liquid (juice) you get from kimchi.. so if you buy kimchi you will get some kimchi broth from the kimchi.. thanks

  • Hi Aeri... this looks fantastic. Could I use whole wheat flour as well? And also, since I am a vegan, what could I replace the egg and milk with? Many thanks from Germany!!

  • @pyroprince78

well.. just use kimchi broth or water instead of egg and milk.. you might lose some flavor from them but it will be still delicious..maybe you can add some garlic powder to it to give some more flavor..

  • I tried this but forgot to add the sugar which did not turn out so good......but the kimchi was really good

  • i love 김치전 so i should eat 김치전 too ! can we eat this when it is not hot anymore ?

  • @skyagyal43

    yes you can ^^

  • i loooove kimchijeon! my friend got me addicted to it when i came to her house and her mom made them for out snacks/lunch xD

  • how do you get crispy texture without frying mix? I don't have any T_T

  • @mohini12

make your batter a little more runny.. and spread the batter thinly on the heated pan with generous amount of oil..and when you flip the pancake.. press it well with spatula.. these are all the tips for crispy pancake.. with patience.. fry then for good time both sides..

  • Ahh. My mom makes these too. (: but her recipe is more watery. She adds the mix first, quickly adds in the kimchi, and adds more batter on top. MMMM.

  • I don't understand why people think kimchi smells bad.

It smells like cabbage and pepper paste.

    O.o

  • @syn010110 I think some people that think it smells bad think this either because of the pickeling smell or else because of the fish sauce or fish smell. But I dont add any fish anything to my kimchi, I make vegetarian Kimchi :)

  • kimichi does not smell good. i ate it at a Korean restaurant.

  • @TheAs57

I don't like kimchi smell either..but the taste is good. ^^

  • @aeriskitchen hahah i love both the smell and the taste!! the smell alone salivates my mouth!!! ;D

  • @aeriskitchen it is too spicy. do you cook chinese food too ?

  • @TheAs57

    No.. why ??

  • Can you show me how to make kimchi

  • @huejie

I already posted a video to show how to make kimchi..so please check it out. ^^

  • I am making this tomorrow (: even thought i am very young LOL

  • what is a frying mix? im sorry. im really young and still a beginner at cooking so i dont know what it is

  • @applebananastar

Oh.. it's okay. Many people asked some question as you did. ^^ Frying mix is.. flour mix for deep frying food. It is mainly flour ..but it has some other ingredients to make good flavor and texture for deep frying. :) You can find it in a Korean grocery store. thanks

  • i made them today and i think it's cos i'm impatient but the pancakes didn't turn out crispy and were burnt LOL i don't think i should attempt cooking anymore XD maybe when i'm a little older :D

  • @blipblopify

Don't give up.. ^^ the more you try.. the better you will cook. thanks

  • I just bought this at a korean store...and it was super good! thanks for sharing the recipe!

  • 음식 못하는것 진짜 없네 ㅋㅋㅋ

다 잘하면 식당 하나 오픈 하세요 ^^*

  • @chunkim1214

아니예요..저도 배워가면서 하고 있어요. ^^ 감사합니다.

  • if you don't have flour can you use pancake mix?

  • @L0veMyK0r3anDraM4s

    yes you can. ^^

  • OH! i luv kim chi jeon!, if you add som mozarella cheese in the mix b4 u fry it, it will be good! well for me atleast

  • @galjus123

Yes..it can be good.. ^^ just make sure the cheese will not make your kimchi jeon too salty..in that case you can adjust the amount of salt.. ^^ thanks for good idea..

  • I had no frying mix at home,to make the taste a little more interesting,I added cornmeal and to have a little more vegetable in the pancakes I added corn from a can. It was very good *^------^*

  • So I made these today and they were very tasty but I had a problem with getting it crisp. If I got the batter crisp it would burn a little and if I was patient and wait till it was golden brown it was not crisp at all.

I was wondering if I added beer, vodka, or a rice spirit like sake or soju would it help to crisp up the batter? Also if I use all Frying Mix (which I bought just for these pancakes) would that make them really crispy? I like things super super crispy.

  • @maraskywalkeriii

the tip to make the pancake crispy.. is.. make the batter thin...if the batter is too thick.. you can add a little more water.. and spread the batter in a heated pan.. thinly as much as you can...and use plenty of oil in the pan will be another tip for it.. don't flip your pancake too often.. just sometimes press the pancake with spatula.. that's another tip... I hope this work for you..

  • i cook pancake kimchi but not add milk just flour ,egg and kimchi only to fry it, it still delicious too because kimchi have a good taste at all not need add the salt and sugar~~ :)

  • I made these again and these were SOOO GOOD!!! I made them thinner and added more milk and a little more water so they COULD be thinner!! Thank you so much aeris! Keep up your amazing work!

  • Hey thank you i love korian food is better than chinesses food camsa hamida

  • is there a dipping sauce usually served with kimchi pancakes? if so, what do you recommend?

  • @wagamamawizard whoa. first of all, kimchi itself is quite salty. it is a fermented food... if you want you can dip this in soy sauce or korean hot chili paste

  • @wagamamawizard

i don't need any dipping sauce for kimchi pancake..because it has enough flavor in it. ^^

  • @wagamamawizard , i went to a restaurante were they served kimchi pancake too and they served it with soy sauce i think. i made kimchi pancake today:] i tried to do the same sauce.

i just put soy sauce and sesame oil together. it tasted kinda the same. it gives kind of a salty flavor which i like since i love salty things . LOL hope this helped

  • Hi im a fan from Singapore. How to know if kimchi is well fermented??? I always buy it from store but I can't tell the difference between well fermented or normal. Thanks. Your videos rock!!!'

  • @ibmzik Just wait till it tastes a little sour..! :)

  • @ibmzik you can actually tell from the smell, color if it looks like the "sauce" really penetrated into the cabbage and the taste will be a bit sour.

  • if I want it to be crispy but I don't have frying mix, what can I put in?

  • @shachenta

just use normal flour then ^^ spread your batter thinly when you fry it.. with generous amount of oil..that will make it a little more crispy..

  • if I want it ti be crispy but I don't have frying mix, what can I put in?

  • what is frying mix?

  • @madhulikaP

it is basically flour..but they added some ingredients to make it better for deep frying food. ^^

  • is it ok if the kimchi is store bought?

  • @4everanasianfreak2

yep.. it tastes better if the kimchi is fermented enough.. ^^ which means.. when you bought the kimchi from a store..and the kimchi is kind of fresh.. it's not good for kimchi pancake.. ^^

  • is it okay if you don't add the frying mix??

  • @glittersandicing

yes..it's okay.. just use normal flour instead ^^

  • @aeriskitchen thanks :D

  • how did you make the kimchi broth?

kimchi pancakes look very yummy !!!

i want to try making it!

  • @jaeluve91

If you make or buy kimchi jar... while the kimchi is fermenting.. it will get some liquid from the kimchi.. i call that kimchi broth.. ^^

  • @aeriskitchen aah thankyou!! ^_^

    i will make it today~ hehe~ ^_^

  • best kimchi pancake ever ^_^

added some onion too, saw it on family outing =] ty

  • Looks so awesome! I love kimchi...I put it in soup, noodles, etc. Thanks!!

  • @Wivanunu

    me too.. hehe ^^

  • Just had Kimchi Pancakes last week for the first time and they were amazing!!!!!!! OMG ^^ hehe This sweet lady sells them in her market In Savannah Ga (she makes it herself) yummy yummy. I am so happy you made this video because now I am in Cayman and wont be in Savannah for the next 3 months and I want more.. so 감사합니다! ^^ I will try this soon first I have to figure out how to make Kimchi. :) adventure time :D lol Aeri Hwighting!

  • @LAislandlife

^^ you are welcome. thanks for your comment. :D

  • Is there a specific type of oil you like to use for this?

  • @Roflcopter565

I used canola oil ^^ you can use vegetable oil or other cooking oil you use.. thanks

  • @aeriskitchen I ended up using Olive Oil, because we had so much of it. The kimchi pancakes were really good! (but i made mine too thick) >_<

  • @Roflcopter565

hehe.. great.. olive oil is healthier..

if it's too thick.. just cook longer next time.. ;) and sometimes.. if the batter become too thick... it will be more difficult to spread out the batter on the pan.. so if it was that case.. you can add a little more water or milk in your batter..^^

  • @aeriskitchen Oh! Thanks for the tips! Can't wait to try again >=]!

  • Respond to this vidAH! i read earlier comments.. and i got Kamsahamnida! We have a Super H Mart nearby which is an asian store with all various things asian. (it has korean, chinese, japanese, and thai). Also, those look amazing!! My brother tried to make korean pancakes with scallions. It was DISGUSTING!! But, i like kimchi alot! Can't wait to try this! (kimchi is still fermenting!! =*[ )

  • Eh, i've never heard of frying mix.. Where could i get that!! =O (or is it All Purpose flour?)

  • @Roflcopter565

nope it's a little different from all purose flour.. you can think like.. premixed flour for frying food... you can find it in a Korean or Asian store.

  • @aeriskitchen Thanks for replying and making the pancakes! I'm going to attempt making them now! (hope i dont mess this up too badly)

  • I also love mixing with a fork xD. It works way better than some weird spoon or whisker

  • @blackrose8120

    I agree ^^ hehe

  • Hello Aeri!! I made this today by following your recipe! It was SO GOOD!!!!!!! :D It tasted just like how a restaurant would make it. Thank you so much :)

  • @thesixthprincess

    good job.. thanks :D

  • hey aeri ;D i was wondering, could i use korean pancake mix?

  • @sweetbaby12

    Yes, you can.... ^^

  • does soy milk work for it too? or would that make it too sweet? (looks super delicious!)

  • @EmiliePage

I'm not sure about soy milk.. if you don't have normal milk or don't want .. you can just use water instead..thanks

  • 오늘 한마트로 가고 김치살게요!!! 완전 맛있겠어요!!! 냠~냠~냠~냠~

  • i love kimchi but i dont like kimchi pancakes .. my boyfriend's mom always cooks this for me and i have to eat it :( hmm should i say something to her? i dont want to be rude or hurt her feelings..

  • wow if your bf's mom makes you kimchi jun thats high praise. seriously.

  • yea my boyfriends mom made me a huge stack of kimchi pancakes .. they are still sitting in my fridge. this makes me feel HORRIBLE for not eating them!!!

  • hi TaTaTew09,

If you are not a Korean.. she will understand if you don't like it... you don't have to express your feeling too directly or honestly... but don't have to pretend you like it either... how about tell her.. you love kimchi but not accustomed to the taste of kimchi pancakes.. so ask her give you kimchi and rice... she is nice to you to make kimchi pancakes.. and you are sweet also to worry to hurt her feelings.. just my opinion.. ^^

  • aeri thanks for the advise seriously!! i try to be open minded about korean food it kills me not to be able to eat some of the food my boyfriends mom cooks for me, because i dont like seafood! and no im not korean im latina so yea the food and culture are very very different! lol but trust me im trying to train my tongue muscles to like seafood.. its not easy :(

  • hi TaTaTew09,

I can understand you.. if you were not grown up with eating seafood.. of course..it will be not easy to eat it.. there are many other Korean foods not using.. maybe you can try them.. you don't have to push yourself to eat things you don't like..hehe you are sweet.. have a great day !!!

  • looks really yummy!! but adding scallions and seafood will kick it up a notch. Bam!!!
