The only problem with the original Captive and this follow up Liberation is that they couldn't realistically be completed. I spent about 5 months on Captive only to find that it had about 10,000 missions. I played it day and night trying to find something that would indicate a progression to the end!, but that was never going to happen :(
@viktorhat The CD32 has 2MB of memory, which it fills with code, graphics and sound effects during loading times. A music track can't be playing while this is happening because it would require two parts of the disc to be read at the same time. A bit like you can't play two tracks from the same CD at once. They have to be queued
I think that was Neil Morrissey XD I think I recognise the female computer voice as a blonde policewoman from the Bill. I have no idea of the rest though. I have this somewhere. I liked the cardboard case. Should have credits possibly
I think the version I had of this was bugged, you were supposed to send members your team of Droids off on individual missions, but every time I went through a door or portal they would end up together anyway. Also, the buildings were all like the tardis, fucking huge when you got into them and very easy to get lost in. Pumpin' into though.
The playing of the audio track was done entirely in hardware by the CD-Player with no need of CPU time. However, this process required that the CD-Reader was undisturbed while playing. As soon as a read request was sent from the amiga, hardware music playback was cancelled. There was a trade-off : Have CD quality sound but no access to the CD while playing or use the amiga's normal sound channels and do all buffering on the amiga (and you had to forfeit the full 16 bits sound of the cd)
Do you realize that the cd32 was unable to read file data while it was playing an audio track... That means absolutely all the graphics for this intro had to be preloaded in a meager 2 mb of rams! That's amazing.
im not sure but if you ever find the song anywhere id be much abliged if you can link it to me!, ive been trying to learn it from a mate but id prefer to learn it myself
Damn, what a rush to see this old, but fantastic intro again. Definately one of my favourite intros on the Amiga. The CD Audio really helps the CD32 version bring this game to the next level back then.
thing was, the game was terrible...loads of triangles running around thta either looked like midgit ed209's or jawas. Each character replied in a multitude of accents in ONE conversation, the small shops were bigger on the inside than outside and u would get attacked just by talking to someone and they someone else would attack you from behind.
Still, like many things CD32..."nice intro...shame about the cr@ptastic game"
I never actually heard it with the speech before!. I had the A1200 version, so to finally hear it is great :) It was an awesome introduction even without the speech though.

Cool! I just bought a CD32 on Ebay, haven't used an Amiga for like 8 years, and this looks like a great game for a starter :)

you crazy? it had hardly any games made for it. and most of them were just ports from the amiga 500/1200

This game was one of the most ambitous ever created. They just didn't have the technolgy to make it work. It deserves a big-money remake.
One thing i liked was that the robot's brains were in their chests, not their heads.

The best intro you can get on either the Amiga (there with no CD music and sound effects) or the CD32. Awesome.

Game was ahead of its time I think. Great concept but poor execution and anaemic hardware.

Oops...Oh yeah, the CD32 had a Motorola 68EC020 processor, but they were built in 1993, because that's written on my CD32 board :P
s34dr4g0n 5 years ago
Yeah that would be about right, since the A1200 was released in very late 1992 & the CD32 followed only a short time later :)

I still have my Cd32 at home :)
and in 1994 i loved this intro, yeah !! My favourites games on CD32 were Project X and Elite2-Fontier
