When they make these demo videos, the production company usually supplies the weapons, props and sometimes clothes. In mainland China it is very common and fashionable to use the flashy, wobbly weapons with the tassels and flags for demonstration and photo shoots. If you gave Master Chen a cardboard cut-out his Taiji would be just as good. The art is in the person. It's not a big deal. As for "acupuncter." It seems that he has a very limited understanding of the circles in Taiji practice.
What a self aggrandizing fool. Anyone reading this, notice he still hasn't answered questioned put to him. Have you trained in China? Have you trained with any true masters. Unfortunately, young fool, most of my masters have passed on, and I won't sully their names by placing them here along with this nonsense. Young fool; less talk more empirical data. Don't say throughout most of China becuase it wasn't at any of the Chinese Sports Univ. I've attended. Blah, blah blah.
You question Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei's form? He is a Chen.. as in Chen Style Taiji.. the original family who created the earliest form of Taijiquan nearly 400 years ago.. Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei is one of the top 10 martial artists in China.. and he created the 18 movement short-form of Chen Taijiquan practiced today throughout the world. His "masters" were his family. Maybe you should do a little historic research before sounding like a fool.
It's easy to recognize a child's response. Please, I don't care if the guy is a water sprite, that doesn''t mean you don't question his style. I'm always flabbergasted when someone is referred to as "grandmaster"; there is no term in Chinese. Have you trained with any of the true masters? Young dunderhead read more than "a little historic research";if you would you might conclude that actually Yang style is what was practiced by the Chens, the "new Chen style" is what is practiced by Chens.
the only "new Chen" is the 18 form movement Zhenglei created.. We study both old form "long form" and the newer "short form".. my master is also a Chen.. again.. a direct descendent of those whom created the first style of Taijiquan.. how about you? Yang Luchan was the first non-family member disciple who was allowed to study Chen Taiji.. he then left to form his own style "Yang Taijiquan" 200 years after Chen style's creation.. keep up the research friend.. but just.. try harder next time
Sorry to comment but it is the other way around. Yang style came from Chen style. Yang Luchan studied under the chen family in Chen village. I am learning this form at present and scrolled sown to read some comments.
Well, and I've discussed this at length in China with students and masters, Yang indeed studied from Chen but the style (frame) he developed is closer to the original Chen style than what we now refer to as New Chen. So, although it is Yang style since it is closer to the original it is considered by many to be the earliest style (still preserved).
Of course it would have resembled Chen that is what he learned. Yang Luchan wasnt taught pao choi (cannon fist routine) only Lao jia (old frame). Yang Luchan's Grandson Yang Chenfu, did change it considerably and his student Chen Manching did also by shortening th rotuine. Having studied both (and still studying) the roots are realy clear to me and in application also. Chansing Gung (silk Reeling) is a huge difference between Chen & Yang.
I realize that many that comment on taiji aren't able to read or write Chinese, but just to correct repeated mistakes that I see on the internet, it should be Yang Chengfu, who was one of my master's teachers, and Cheng (or Zheng) ManChing (or Manjing), another style I have practiced.
But referring to Chan Su Gong, silk reeling, the circular motion is critical not only to Chen taiji but all Taiji, and even as I have now seen that Chen Zhenglei replied to a question about circular motion, that it must be maintained, it is a point I'm afraid he has not adhered to in this video.
Everyone's a master but when you put yourself out there on the web welcome criticism. First point, Tai ji is a circle so what's with the full extension in some of his movements? And I have to say a bit sloppy on some of your turns. Slower is better; not easier, better. If you can do it well slow you can do it very well fast.
Actually they are only better for domonstration. I daily practice a somewhat heavier sword should be used, BECAUSE it is more difficult. It is very easy to make a floppy wushu blade move, so it still looks impressive in demonstration, even when you screw up your fajing.
Come on, where do you think most of the weapons come from that you use? The mainland. There are a wide range of swords available, North and South, and as for weapons, I have seen groups come to study in China and take back big bundles of waxwood poles because they are unavailable anywhere else in the world.
Very good, this is really going to help my tai chi! ^_^

More of your nonsense. The only problem is that I'm not sure half the truth is any better than complete fabrication. Chenjiagou; then talk to me.

does anyone know who this is (more than "Master Chen"). Also, are there any other examples of this particular form around youtube?

It's a bit sad to see people criticizing before they really know about the sword. Obviously it's not a fighting sword.
The floppy ones are actually better (for TaiChi) because when they bend, it incarnates the ripple of energy flowing suddenly out of you body.

They can get real weapons they just dont use them for SAFETY reasons

I've seen floppier weapons. I think that is all they can get on the mainland.
Good footwork, though...
