  • The opening lick he plays sounds totally Bluesbreakers-era Clapton.

  • Tone that can only come from DG at 1;41

  • David is right on the money. Rock n roll has been neutered by sound men. There has to be a happy medium so that vocalists can still hear themselves but for God's sake the guitar and other instruments matter too.

The mentality that vocalists are the only ones that matter is soooo over the top.

  • Some of you guys obviously know how good David is; the rest seem to be fixated on equipment issues, which is understandable, but trivial. It's the ideas. Listen, boys. This is the best "unknown" known guitarist playing on the planet today. Every time I rave about DG only the hip players know who he is. I don't get the rest. I'd record every one of those licks he was just throwing off to the interviewer, analyze them , and use them. They're golden. Like him.

  • 2:15 - 2:20 total texas dna marker.

  • 9:11 - Daivd?

  • hahha good spot there bro.

  • Very cool... Man feel ya on turning those amps up... It is a bad thing. I played Disney in July and they had a two Marshall's for me. My stage volume was so low and without in ears it's so hard to hear. I mean I get not wanting to cut people heads off but at the same time you really need to stand 15 rows back to hear the mix other wise all you hear are drums.

  • David and Lance Know tone!

  • David is the shiznittle bang, however, if that is one of his songs. That needs to be put down. "Got a lil somthin thats not on the menu". Give me a break!

  • 0:54 : L-R Marshall JCM800 or 900 Bad Cat Panther Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer Fulltone ChoralFlange Boss TR-2 Tremolo Fulltone Wah Boss TU-2 Tuner Ernie Ball Volume Line 6 DL-4 Delay Fulltone GT500 Full-Drive Fulltone FB-3 Fat-Boost 3 Guitar is a PRS DGT Signature.
  • What model is that Bad Cat head amp? Anyone knows it?

  • Bad Cat Panther I believe

  • Thank you. That's right, it's a Bad Cat Panther... i read that before righting this...

    It's sounds awesome!

  • yeah to hell with sound men

making me run my mesa lonestar at a bedroom level, *shudders*

  • I play a PRS Custom 24, McCarty and a Santana III through a Genz Benz Black Pearl 30 2x12. I turn the amp so it faces ME, instead of the crowd. Then I can turn up, lean into the amp for sustain/feedback, and the FOH guys LOVE it! (Especially for outdoor shows.)

You get the volume and response wihout messing up the mix out front. The only downside is you don't get to advertise your amp! (I don't have an endorsement deal with anyone so it's not an issue for me.)

  • Really nice jacket Lance wheredid you get it!

  • The song at the beginning is called 'Loud Music' off his solo album by the same name. It's great, would highly recommend it.

  • One of the best players in years. Taste man/ Taste

  • That was a really good yak between a pair of musos. Nice one fellas. What else can I say? Maybe save a few grand for a PRS, although an Epi does it. Love and health to everyone xxxxx

  • the intro song (not being played by david I think) is it a stones song? kinda sounds like mick jagger ;-)

anyone know the name of the song?

  • The Artist is David Grissom. The song is from his new album, I think it's called "40 dollar fine." Yeah! He sounds great! Go buy his album :)

  • It's "Loud Music," title track from his album. @guitar25com

  • @guitar25com

Loud Music is the name of the album and title track.

  • Does anybody know if what he's playing in the first part is part of a song or if everything he's playing is just made up?

  • Line 6 DL4

  • Can anybody tell me what kind of delay He's using? I love the sound he gets with this set-up!

  • Line 6 DL4

  • Lance is a fellow member of The Gear Page. Nice cat.

David is such a cool and unique player. Great chops and tone for miles. He's been like that for years.

David would sound great through a solid state Pignose amp while playing a $150 Squier guitar.

    Nice interview Lance.

  • Grissom, your playing is badass as it gets! You're #1

  • Awesome interview! I love DG. I love the quote about amps bleeding into mics is part of rock n roll. I've experienced the "amp in a box" with "in ears". It sux.

David, PLEASE play some live stuff in Nashville!

  • Thanks for posting these! I always love to hear Dave play, and hearing him talk about his rig is really interesting.

  • Grissom is awesome. But PRs guitars are even more awesome!!:0)
