Totally awesome is QUEEN. Even from back in the late 60s when they were college buds playing original rock music at frat parties, local pubs & whatnot...in fact, QUEEN is the ONLY rock band that can boast that ALL 4 members are actual college graduates, majoring in music which, explains THE GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME. Sorry but, it's true - the Stones, Zeppelin, Boston, Rush - you name 'em - NONE of them can compare to the virtuosos that are QUEEN!! Only the Beatles can MAYBE come close!
@Korvinski That's a bit narrow minded.. I love Queen but I can accept that there are other bands that are equally good or better :P Beatles and Zeppelin being among them
@onthemoveaga Looking back, I think Queen had both the Beatles and Zep beat. Originality, musical ability, and songwriting.....Queen beats both of them, so I think. Just my opinion. As for making bad albums? Queen - Hot Space.....Led Zep - Coda....The Beatles - Let it be. Not horrific albums - all had their bright spots - but obviously the weakest links. There were many faults and follies; to think otherwise is pretty absurd.
@DickLodge68 I almost wouldn't call "Coda" an album. I was released after Bonham's death and pretty much just a release of what they had that they didn't use in the other albums. Like a "here's some of the stuff we have in the closet if you're interested" album.
@MinGophers It was released as an album and still considered by most that Coda was the last Zep album. The same thing happened with Queen's Made in Heaven, which was also released after Mercury's death. Regardless, it was a point made that Queen, Led Zep, and the Beatles never made any bad albums...and I disagree. Then again, it's all a matter of opinion isn't it?
@DickLodge68 I`d have to disagree with you on let it be. I`d say the worst beatles albums were...well, pretty much everything from the beatles before rubber soul sucked, I`d say, aside from yesterday and a 2 or 3 Lennon tunes. Just my personal opinion, of course, but I find Let It Be to be far better than the rather dislikeable early beatles.
@CYCOfilms Well, you are entitled to your opinion but keep in mind I've got a few years on you.. so perspectives are different. I'm not a huge fan of the "old" Beatles...but certainly wouldn't say it "sucked" Look at the other bands of the time. Don't restrict it to something "lame"...they were a good band that only got better. And IMHO McCartney was better than Lennon. But that's why we all have opinions. And George wrote some of the best songs! That was then, when they were fab!
@coolsquirrels Not really. It was a huge departure for Queen, yes, but most of the songs are good. I'd say all of Brian and Roger's songs on there are great, Back Chat is pretty good too. Album versions of Staying Power and Body Language are pretty lousy but in live renditions are much more enjoyable. Under Pressure doesn't count, it was released earlier.
Nonetheless, it is interesting to wonder which direction their music would have gone in had Paul Prenter not interfered. :L
@9tome6 Yea I saw the documentary and they talked about how Paul Prenter was a very bad influence on Freddie and the band. I guess we'll never know unfortunately
@9tome6 I agree and Freddie was not Freddie during Hot Space and Brian, Roger and John were pissed at him. Apparently this topic is going to be in the new flick about Freddie/Queen but that's another can of jam altogether! Btw, where's the last beat on this song?
@eightwasntenuff =P Brian, Roger and John were pissed at him? =P It's because Freddie was acting strange and was turning into a gay club lover, he was different and his bandmates were mad at him cos he wanted Queen to sound like a band that should be played at discos and such things, am I right?
@9tome6 Come on now! I bought this the day it was released and was so disappointed.....as were 90% of Queen fans, I'd say. Back Chat? Oh man! How about Put out the Fire...which was the only song I liked on it when I was 14. And Las Palablas is a beautiful song. Staying Power is great live but the rest of it is horrible! Ask any Queen fan what was the worst and most will easily say Hot Space. Yes, Under Pressure doesn't count.
actually, i don't really like flash gordon (not sure if to consider it an album) and hot space. but the 70s' had a pretty awesome series of classics, yes
it's like as soon as they started abandoning hard rock and approached the electronic scene, they started losing their popularity
@PolMcCartney hahaha I don't agree, when Queen released The Game in 1980 or even before that time with News of the world in '77 or Jazz in '78, they lost many many fans who didn't see the same Queen from ANATO, ADATR and their first albuns, the truth is that they lost a lot of fans when they turned more pop but they also gained millions of fans, and there was no prejudice, there was profit. They sold out everywhere and topped the charts everywhere in the 80's
@PolMcCartney Well Flash Gordon was a soundtrack album, so that's kinda iffy anyway. Funny, as long as Queen stated "no synthesizers" for years....I believe their best album The Game was the first to use synthesizers. And that's the album that simply sent them through the roof popularly and commercially.
@adarov Believe what you want to....Taylor played "most" of this song. But that was May that played the E string shuffle and some other riffs. It's apparent as Murray opposed to Smith. If you can't hear that difference, I can't help you. This was a Queen album, not "Fun in Space".
I think this album was like, the defining moment where they officially started to mess around with different styles... this band could write anything!
Yes,I didn't set it right..I mean a legend as a vocalist,as a lead singer.He's got the perfect "metal" voice.
However,I can't imagine Queen without his backing vocals!!Of course he has also done some lead vocals,in this band and in other projects, but it's not what he is well-known for.
Love this song. Well, right up until the part where the medley kicks in. Still cool, though. The riffing reminds me of E1M1off the Doom soundtrack, lol.

Roger Taylor was definately the most underrated one in Queen - a lot of people thought more of Mercury/May from a distance. He was far more than a drummer and a good songwriter, although this isn`t a classic - the bit at 3:34-3:50 is a bit naff to me but maybe it was cool in 1978.
