Really cool Mark, and what a lovely voice you have! (makes me think of James Taylor every time...) Don't worry you really have your own style but theres definitely something similar in your voice...
@Northshore45 Gotta admit JT is one of my favorite singer/songwriters, but I'd never compare my voice to his, although I appreciate your comment. Hey, is that north shore Lake Superior? If so, you have quite a view! All the best. ~ Mark
Really enjoyed this, Mark! I was only familiar with the Marty Robbins version myself, but this one is equally as great. Of course you did a mighty fine job, as always. Cheers!
@rbseaver Hey Rob, thanks for the kind words. Glad your liked my cover of this great old song. Seems I'm liking those old songs more and more. Must be I've officially obtained the ye ol' fart age. All the best to you and your crew. ~ Mark
Hey brother Mark, thanks for the info on the song. I surely recognise the song but had no idea who did it......man, you would have been a hit back then......you still should be a hit! Cheers!
@oldnrone Ah, those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end. BUT, then came the 60s! Have to admit, I enjoyed the 60s much more. Teen and college years were hard to beat for feeling alive. Lots of stuff going on in them thar 60s. So, how you been? ~ Mark
I am not familiar with Guy Mitchell`s rendition however I would put this on par or even superior to the late great Marty Robbin`s Incredible performance!! Excellent little toe tapper here!!! I ran the numbers thru my calculator and you are correct, 1956 was exactly 54 years ago!lol. Nice one Mark!!!
@coolanddark Us math whizzes have to stick together, eh Dan. Mucho thanks for the very kind comment. Of the two recordings, I guess I was partial to the way ol' Marty sang it. Sure loved his recording of El Paso. Might have to give that one a try sometime down the road. All the best to you and Molly. ~ Mark
Perfect beat and tune for you! Makes me feel like anything but singing the blues though! ;) Real toe-tapping upbeat stuff! Really nice, MArk! ;) Great choice and wonderful performance! NAncy
@nllleonard Glad you liked it, Ms. NAncy, and glad it didn't give you the blues. I never thought of it as a blues song, though, it being so upbeat and all. Just another one of those 1950s songs that had you smiling along with Eisenhower as your folks drove the new highway out to one of the lakes on the outskirts of Detroit. All the best. ~ Mark
@1catbob Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I've got fond memories of riding in the back seat of my dad's car listening to both versions of that song coming over the radio. Give my regards to that cat of yours. ~ Mark
@kb1056 Yep, it's the kind of song that'll get the dust off your feet. Did some fishing on one of my favorite creeks yesterday and caught some nice walleye. Where's that camera when you need it? Might be heading up to Bliss Fest this weekend. Any chance of you making it up that way? Nice win for the Tigers last night. ~ Mark
@reliablebow Normally I have to take that boot off to do the mathematics. Thanks for the good vibes. Walked in the water earlier today. Nice way to beat the heat. I swear I can still hear the fish giggling. Take care. ~ Mark
This song is deceptive - these days likely to be sung by folks having a good time singin' it! This is a true beauty, Mark! Mighty fine singin and accurate Detroit historical notation! We got a bit of heat here - hope you're keepin cool!
@cadwalladee Yep, I had a lot of fun singing the blues (there might be another song there,eh?). Had to give credit to ol' Guy Mitchell as a fellow native Detroiter. Any time we can give that city some positive strokes, I'm in. Weatherman said another day of over 90 degrees and then it's going to cool off. I always thought the dog days of summer took place in August! All the best. ~ Mark
sounding very wonderful on this monday nite Mark and i see in related vids another great friend, another Mark, also sang this song a while back! and holy cowdoes he have the views! very nice rendition! liked the cheeriness u sang in this!
@justcallmethelma Yeah, I guess I gonna have to work on that darker side of blue thing. I just always heard that song sung in kind of an ubeat way, at least in my head. Thanks for the comment, Kathy. Hope you're having a great week. ~ Mark
Really like your rendition of this oldie! Great singing and playing! ...like the way you fill in between the verses and for the whistling.

Great job, Mark. Clean guitar stumming and pickin', smooth vocals. Thanks for the info about Guy Mitchell. I only remember the Marty Robbins version.
May the force be with you.
