hey wolfie, i thank you and your comrade's for your service !! wish more of your generation who served would write down their memorys. we're now losing WWII and korea vets daily and the storys die with them.. i understand if people wish to keep those memorys for themselves, they earned em... much respect, carry on..
@timjessa1 Much respect to you for respecting something that will be gone and you can only read about it. Instead of a first hand opportunity, hopefully we never go through a WWII again, nor Vietnam. Thanks again, Wolfie
@jason11998 Yes, but hopefully we can stop fighting in wars that we shouldn't be in. The poor soldier, marine, air force, sailor and coast guard pay the price for political decisions it seems. We should have gotten out of Iraq and Afghanistan like we did in Kuwait.
@WolfieRed1 OK,, again,,, this one is titled "Watch the Battle".. where is the battle?? Your vidoes are all the same.. with nothing about battles.. we see maps, choppers coming and going.... the 'nam country side... but no real action as your titles depict.... sorry, but not impressed... I served in 'nam when it was really HOT! you were there at the end after the Tet Offensive.... but thanks for serving...
@zerofivebravo well to be blunt, when the firing started I dropped my f...ing camera and picked up my 203. Nothing about the battle, I think its pretty well described. So what you are saying is your d..ck is bigger than mine. I was a grunt and lucky to get the film I got. I would think I would get some respect for being there instead of your bull shit, my company went from 29 from 115 when I first got there. But thanks for serving asshole. your buddy Wolfie
@WolfieRed1 Wolfie do you know anything about present day Vietnam and what its like? does their country still have remnants of the war(like mines and stuff)? my friend, who i have known to be a liar, told me this so im not sure if hes telling the truth
@timmy7796 I have a good friend that was there 8 years ago and said it was as beautiful as ever. I would assume there are problems with old mines and stuff. I would say the mine problems have probably mostly been dealt with by now. Thanks for posting, Wolfie
What a treat to see my old unit in action - yet with reservations because of the events that transpired that Easter day. I was a 116th Hornet from November 1970 through October '71. Thanks for sharing.
@pilot9955 Hornet 39, I have been in touch with a lot of Hornets. I got in country Oct 70, left like you in Oct 71. I bet I road in your bird a time or 2. Plemo told me that the gunner was Roggenbuck, you remember him? Wolfie
No amount of respect could be given to you guys, you went to war and saw all the dead and wounded then some asshole comes along and criticise you for serving your country, fuck all those mothers, respect to you!
Even though i'm british, i respect all of you nam vets! Apparantly, the average lifetime of a soldier in battle over there was 20 mins. Can you correct me if you know the fig? Thanks for all of the vids wolfie =)
@wikeewoo thanks for posting, love you British. Been to England once, would really like to go back again. Not sure where you got that statistic, I did learn something recently, a WWII soldier was in combat 10 day in 4 years. A Vietnam vet spent 240 days in a year. I think the 20 minutes is pretty low since I spent 403,200 minutes in combat. Or maybe I just schewed the numbers. Your new buddy. Wolfie :-)
@WolfieRed1 Haha, thanks wolfie! But yeah, britain is nice place, so nice that i would go to war when i'm 18...but war isn't what it used to be, just polititians mistakes...wait... yeah, it's always been that way! Anyways, ifi were richer, i'd get you over to britain!! But, i'm a big fan of the americans, seeing as though i was born there" But once again, you did great over in nam. I don't like to imagine what it was like! Respect from england from Jules =)
@wikeewoo what a croc of shit!!! you need to read your history sunshine, you would go to war for the UK? as an ex-serviceman (3RD BTN RGJ) and the father of two boys no way would I allow them to be cannon fodder for this country.
MY DAD WAS KILLED IN HIS 3RD TOUR VIETNAM G SGT JOYCE I KNOW THAT ALL OF OUR AMERICANS WHO WHERE KILLED OUR ALL TOGETHER NOW AND THE ONES THAT LIVED OUR ARE HEROES THE REASON WHY I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE SOME OF OUR VIETNAM VETERENS ARE STILL FIGHTING THIS WAR. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND SEMPER FI
@Marinesson2136 Very sorry to hear about your Dad. He is up there with some of my buddies and I've requested they pull me up when needed and they better have a cold one ready. Semper Fi Wolfie
@PEDROCLASSIC Please stop by at the Panel for November 23, 1970 and visit my buddies Zornes and Runge. Then April 2, 1971 for Glen Hata, then April 11, 1971 for the 11 that lost their lives that day. Wolfie
@WolfieRed1 For sure. i'll keep that in mind. mark my word. i will do that for you. i do have names that i wanna look up too. i'm not related to them in any way. Marines that have died in HUE in 1968 and the CON THIEN province in 1967 operation Buffallo, khe sanh, dak to, La drang valley war, kontum, Cu chi, the ambush valley in the central highlands ..etc. God Bless all
@WolfieRed1 You are right about that .They were so freindly that I was suspicous of them to begin with. They would come up and ask if I was an American and when I said yes, they were inviting me home with them. Alabama, Co. B 2/1 196th LIB 1970-71
@oldmanhurtin Thanks for posting, Crewchiefs and all AHC personel are special to me. You brought us food, guns and medics. 1st Cav was and is a great unit. Welcome to you my brother. Wolfie
TY for the video and service to country. 1971 was part of a sharp decrease in troop strength. In Dec 1970 over 500,000 troops, reduced to about 350,000 in Dec 1971. There were some heavy casualties in those 12 months. Do you remember the direct hit on a bunker in Cam Ranh Bay and killed about 50 men at one time? I think it was in 1971. Welcome Home.
@Micaiah2004 my dad was there Lee D Williams from birminghan Al... i was born in 1971 in may he was there then.. any vets knew my dad hit me up mrbackdraft004@yahoo.com dad was in 101st airborn div 1968 and 1971. he's still kickin in columbus georgia
@mrgoodnight2471 Tell your thanks for me and welcome home, thanks for serving. We didn't get any of that from our fellow Americans when we Nam vets returned. Most were too busy spitting on us to say anything. Most of those people are older now and realize the mistakes of their youth and if they still feel that way about soldier, then theirs a place on this earth for idiots too. Wolfie
WolfieRed1 : Thank you for your service and my prayers for those lost in this day in Vietnam. Thanks for sharing this remarkable film...as a tv newsphotographer I thank you for recording this history for all to see & study. As a younger US Army Vet I salute you for your service in a most difficult time & place ! Take Care ! TCUNC76
@TCUNC76 As an older US Army Vet I salute and appreciate your service too. Thanks for the comments, my film has been converted in HD using a frame by frame scanning process. I need to take the new HD version and re-edit what I have. Thanks to some friends I now have more footage to include. Amazing this journey of finding the stuff after 38 years and the 850,000 total hits I have. Wolfie
Hmm I thought the first comment of me was never saved, so I decided to write another... sorry for the double post.
@tomcornhole: just my opinion man, if I remember correct, I live in a free, democratic nation with the help of the USA, or else I'd be talking German now. And yeah, wtf do I know... hell I wasn't even born back then. People may ask why I adopted a grave of a US soldier at the US war cemetary in Holland Just like 8000 other Dutch that have done so... out of respect.. nuff said
@wpv001 I love the freedom to express your point of view, especially when you have good people of like minds that tell it like it is. Thanks to you and others who watch my 6 (my backside). It is greatly appreciated and I am honored by your support for my fellow soldiers, no matter where they served. Wolfie
A salute and gratidude to all the man and woman who fought in Vietnam for our freedom, many are saying that the USA lost that war, imo you WON ! Communism never got any further than Vietnam because of your effort.
the USA will ALWAYS have my unconditional support for the rest of my life, and I'll pass this on to my future children.
You fought bravely, in horrific circumstances and you sure beat the hell out of those commies for a good cause. I salute you all. Greets from the Netherlands
Amazing, to all that say that the war was lost...it wasn't, Vietnam was the only nation in the region where commies ruled, all the rest kicked the commies out because of the US involvement.
I refuse to believe that all those brave men fought for nothing, you made the world a better place and I always have and always will support the USA and it's brave soldiers for the rest of my life, and I will pass this on to my future children.
@wpv001 Always appreciate anyone that appreciates the sacrifices of soldiers, air force, navy, etc and realize they don't get us into these situations and usually pay the price for the idiots that do make the mistakes. I believe eventully after the Vietnam war has passed for 60+ years maybe the historians will find some good in it. The trouble is all historians are typically liberals that would never admit that maybe a war or conflict in advance of us getting attacked was a good thing?
Ho chi Minh, Vietnam's communist founder, is a disguting TRAITOR and MURDERER. He was a member of the Third Communist International established in 1919 by Lenin. He gave up Paracel & Spratly archipelagos with large oil resources to Red China. He even ordered to murder his own mistress named Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a "Father" of Vietnam who "sacrifices" his whole life for Vietnam revolution.
Great video ! Great tribute to those who serve. I'm not in favor of politically triggered (engineered?) conflicts, but I support those who have to get the dirty chores done.
Spaceman, well said. I think there was a purpose, but somewhere along the line politics and egos got involved and ... sons, daughters, brothers, fathers and mothers paid the price.
Fighting the communists was a right cause, but if the population doesn't have the courage, south Vietnamese, to help them self and their ally you cant win. For more information on the indoctrination of the communists read the " The Mitrokhin Archive , the KGB and the World " by Christopher Andrew and Vasili Mitrokhin. There are two parts, this is the second part. Further have a look at the vid of the people of East Berlin when the wall fell, the same as being liberated from the Nazi's.
Free download from real player. Will on installation give an option to attatch to your browser. When you then pass your mouse over a vid in youtube it give you the option to download the vid to your library folder. great vid..great sound, great bird.+++ we have one flyin in the uk see huey 509
Thank you so much for making this video. Merle Brown was my father's cousin. My father passed away several years ago but my mother, who isn't on the internet and her sister would love to see it. I couldn't figure out how to down load the video. Is there some that you know of that I could do that or otherwise get it from you?
Thanks for your comments Chaplain Brown was a real hero and did everything to support and help his men. Yes RealPlayer is free and you can download Youtube videos for playing later. Wolfie
My name is Kelly Schoolmeesters. Joe Schoolmeesters would've been my uncle. Thanks for making this video! My dad & aunt watched it this past weekend, and neither of them knew what had actually happened that day. So thank you very much for letting us know. We really appreciate it.
Kelly, all the men were very brave that day. Your uncle served his country and made the ultimate sacrifice, I am honored to be able to make a tribute to him along with the other brave men that served with him. Tell your dad and aunt I grieve their loss and all the other brave men and women that give their lives for our freedom. Wolfie
I would like to honor Corporal John Harrison of the British Armed Forces Parachute Regiment who gave his life freeing Stephen Farrell, a reporter with the New York Times in a daring pre-dawn operation on Wednesday. Corporal Harrison demonstrated courage and professionalism in the highest traditions of the British Military. As an American Combat Veteran we Americans have lost a Brother and extend our gratitude, prayers and tears to his family and friends. I salute you Corporal John Harrison.
My father was Seargent First Class in the Korean war. A specialist in communication and morse code. Platoon seargent he was lucky to be alive when the Chinese over ran the frozen chozen. As a member of the Minnesota army reserve his unit in 1966 he chose to relinquesh his position when the unit was called up for duty in Vietnam. with the last of 7 children born my dad had no plans to go back to war.. My uncle Buddy Houlahan was CIA from army intelligence. Moms first cousin Brooklyn NY, THE IRISH
Hi again Wolfie.. you can tell how often I'm on youtube snooping. I was there from May 70 to march 71.. a 30 day drop. We were up on the DMZ at the time, major offensive along Uncle Ho's trail. Some heavy duty bunkers and hard core fighters. If you check out our website, you'll find plenty of stories, some videos, sound bites from birds in the field. And a long story about being along the DMZ and the totally bunkerized hilltops, etc.
Again, I read the negative crap. I say ignore the ignorant

some times american's think they r better then every1 elce, but their country is soo shit they carnt afford health care & i had appendixitis and if i had that in the USA i wud of died as my family cudnt of afforded it
Eagle, when were you in 174th? I have been contacted by many of your guys. Thanks for the comments to RufusBoneHead. Typical naive statement by a young kid that bases his opinions on others. I guess he thinks we don't protect our homeland until somebody drops a bomb on us? That's what the French did and we had to bail them out. If we hadn't the Germans would have been dropping bombs on us in 1943. Thanks for your post my friend. Wolfie
approximately 58000 americans died in vietnam.. 1.5 million vietnamese soldiers and over 3 million civilians were killed.. how would you feel if this was on US soil and the numbers were reversed.. think about that before you praise americas involvement...
You probably need to ask the French about the 50,000 Americans that died to get the Germans out. As I recall we were asked in by the South Vietnamese government. Your statement is rather naive, I thought the Vietnamese were fighting for their independance and asked us for help? Your right we wouldnt like it, but then it has never happened and we surely wouldn't ask someone else to save our country and if we did we should would be grateful.
no one was praising involvement on a political level you jagoff. Just honoring the personal sacrifice of the individuals, statistic waving, clueless punks disgrace my entire generation. dont like dont watch, douche.
well said.. all vietnam wanted was independence and to unify their country.. americans who think they were going there to fight for there country are just plain naive.. nothing against soldiers fighting a real cause or protecting their homeland but what happened in vietnam was nothing but a war crime and completely unforgivable.. fuck you LBJ
i joined the army my junior year in h.s. D-2-3 31victor never saw combat.often wondered how the first action would be like.how scared would i be,would i get fragged?will i go die? i guess when it all goes down, you do what you gotta do or you die. i joined at 17 back in 1985. i thank god i never saw combat. I was born in 1968, so there but for the grace of god,17 or 18 years in either direction of time,i wouldve been in either vietnam or iraq i thank you for what youve done for us....
i was at ft leonard wood too! boot camp was delayed because i was in the hospital,,so they let me do bootcamp in 86 instead of 85..august -october of 86 for boot camp..we had reserve drill instructors,so we had a new set of screamers every 2 weeks..did you ever have sgt.bethune? i still think of that guy 25 years later...
I will not be back to argue with you, but I have to respond to you! YOU ARE A SAD INDIVIDUAL!! If you hate America & the brave ones who have kept us free, then why view this video n the first place!
I checked your YouTube page & I see you are still wet behind the ears! In case you don't know what that means... you're a kid, a spoiled brat who has no idea what you're talking about, knows nothing about life period! You wouldn't have made it 5 minutes in one of those Hueys! Whaaaa!
Like most of them had a choice to fight in that war, No it was called the draft. When your country tells you to go to war its everyone's duty to help fight for your country.

censorship from WolfieRed1, keeping the views he doesn't like off the page. some people just dont like hearing the truth. Jst like the American media...only releasing certain facts to the public. Oh well...enjoy living in ignorance.
I would not call it censorship. It is his video afterall. But of course you have the option of not watching it. Go get yourself a bucket of kimchi and relax.
so your sitting there telling this guy that what he was taught and work for was a load of shit and he is Ignorant?Where you there no , where you there no. What ever your opinion is doesn't matter so don't hate on a soldier that wants to believe what he did was right.
i think this is a great thing that you are doing its been a long time but the whole world and your nation will always remember the bravery of any1 who answers the call and i take my hat off to you all
Your dad was probably leaving as I was coming in. Have you been to the D 1/20 websites. See your dad listed on the roster. Hopefully he is in good health, if so please give him a hug and thank him for his service. Wolfie
my dad once talked about it (to me that is) ive over heard him talking to other nam vets before about it and it scary stories im in the army right now and those stroies were more scary than my experiance
A friend of mine emailed me this link Easter Sunday. I wonder many times why some came back and some didn't. Was it luck? Fate? The will of God? Although I did not personally know any of these men, I knew them all, because we were all brothers in the fight.
Good work wolfiered1. Semper Fi from an old Marine - Phu Bai/Hue 68-69
Pegasus1369, thanks. Lots a grade school - high school buddy in 1968. Marine - John Charles Brown 1 -3 Recon. Thanks for serving and posting. Yes, we are brothers, Semper Fi. Wolfie
This video was very moving! I lost my best friend that day and seeing this video only makes it more real as if it were last year.Thirty-eight years have passed and I still think of him daily and how he died for our country. Wayne enlisted in the Army and volunteered for Vietnam...he was a brave soldier and I will never forget his sacrifice for our freedom. And thanks to all that served and all that are serving today.
Oldsurfdawg, I didn't know Wayne, but over the years I think about him often. 3+ years ago I started a quest to find out more about that day. My videos have gotten me in contact with many involved that day, especially the aviation guys. The pilot of the Huey Wayne was on when it was shot down has visited my home. I have also been in touch with his normal pilot who flew his body off the hill. Wayne was a very brave and patriotic person, I grieve his loss and the loss of others often. Wolfie
I was in Elementary when this was going on. I grew up watching the results of war on a generation. To this day, it is hard to find Vietnam Veterans, who can share their experiences. It is too hard for most. We need to let the world know of these horrors, so we don't repeat them. Thanks to you, and all who served with you. Your courage will not be forgotten.
War is a method of population control. Our species, by our very nature, are limited in our ability to problem-solve.
History has shown that absolute power must be established if any one government is to establish itself to be ligitimate to all who may be percieved as a threat. Leaders want this 'fear' to be inculcated in its peoples to ensure allegence to the former. Until a universal "Leader" arrives on the scene, and possesses True, unadulterated and righteous power, we are doomed to fail.
Wow seems so long ago until I see or hear tyhe sounds of war. It wil never be long enough and never soon enough to hear them again. All brave men and you are a good friend to keep their service for others alive. Thanks for sharing your terrible memory with us, I am sorry for your loose and ours. Well done thank you.
i have friends that served in nam,one of which, after nailing a gook took his sandals & sent them home to his wife.when he arrived home he told his wife how he got those sandals.he said she freaked.(heh).godbless u guys that served i have nothing but love for you all.
No, I was the Grunt taking the pictures, a movie camera in one hand and my M16 in the other. I would like to know who the door gunner is, I have been told his last name is Roggenbuck or something like that. Wolfie
mate? id like to become friends with you, and maybe when you visit australia, ill have a beer with you, im not a weirdo or anything, just a genuine guy, who has an interest about the military, and if you are up to it, id like to hear some of your stories about the war etc, my name is michael anyway
If you ever have helped another person or country in the name of freedom, which costed lives, then this tribute hits home. Ask any firefighter/police officer...or better yet, any marine bravo or delta company in somalia. THANX WOLFIE, NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!!
How do you figure we helped the folks in Nam, just what did we accomplish? It was a stupid dumb ass war thought up by politicians, just like Iraq. Counting my dad four members of my family served in the military representing 3 branches. Nam 70/71, a wasted year of my life that I wouldn't trade for nothin.
wow man i was a kid at the time my dad was there and he died the next day in the lay drong vally.i knew things wouldent be the same,my dads name was SGT.PHILL.he died in a huey that whent down.he was the only man who servived, but got caught by nva&vc forces and they killed him in russain rolette.he was a good father and a husband.i never forgot that tellagrame saying that hes gone.i knoew he was in heaven for his good rights.........i wish you could but him in this vedio but i dont blame you.
Greetings WolfieRed1 & all supporters. Ya know, what really gets me on a lot of these YouTube videos, especially those of a political nature, is the number of downright filthy, despicable, and HATEFUL comments posted by Obama fanatics! If these people, with their ugly comments, represent what Obama is all about, we sure as hell don't want him as Commander-in-Chief! Of course he ain't fit for the office anyway! Semper Fi! :)
Wolfie, thank you sir, for posting this video. And thank you for your service! We didn't lose that war, we kicked ass! We were betrayed by our politicians and the liberal media. Semper Fi! :)
Semper Fi Marine. Don't want to think all guys that lost their lives and all that were wounded did so for a lost cause. I agree we didn't lose that war from a soldiers viewpoint, what we lost was America's appreciation for the sacrifices of it soldiers and their families. That is more defeating than losing any war. Any American that does not respect our soldiers is a traitor to me. Unfortunately, we have a lot of traitors in our country some are our most popular celebrities. Wolfie
Thank you, Wolfie! I agree with all you say...including the part about how we still have a lot of lowlife traitors in our country! And the left-wing, liberal candidate Obama that many of them support will be an unmitigated disaster if he's elected. We have to see that don't happen. He is NOT FIT for the office or to be the CINC of our fine armed forces! Semper Fi! :)
Benj, thanks for your service to your country my new friend. I wanted to be a door gunner in the worst way. Did we pass each other in Cam Ran Bay or somewhere else. I believe there is less than 2% of separation. Wolfie
Yes, and probably from the ARVN's who would get them from us and sell them to the VC. I would say that was greater than battle field recoveries. Sad, but true. Wolfie
Thank you for posting this. My dad showed it to me. He was in the Bravo Company crew that you mention. He remembers the whole thing very well and was surprised to find this on YouTube.
Give your dad a big hug for serving his country. Tell him to contact me anytime. I have been contacted by many that were there that day, thankfully they are still around. Wolfie
Found your post, would love to hear from your pop. Tell him I have identified all the Aviation guys that supported his unit that day and everyday. These guys were vital to our everyday lives and I never got a chance to thank them until now. Now is better than never. Give your dad a big hug, he is a hero for serving his country, he is a bigger hero for serving in Bravo Company. Wolfie

Even though i'm british, i respect all of you nam vets! Apparantly, the average lifetime of a soldier in battle over there was 20 mins. Can you correct me if you know the fig? Thanks for all of the vids wolfie =)
wikeewoo 1 year ago

He even ordered to murder his own mistress named Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a "Father" of Vietnam who "sacrifices" his whole life for Vietnam revolution.

purpose you say? basically, the us wanted to fight communism. and you let the political elite use you, for their purpose.
loebas667 2 years ago
Fighting the communists was a right cause, but if the population doesn't have the courage, south Vietnamese, to help them self and their ally you cant win. For more information on the indoctrination of the communists read the " The Mitrokhin Archive , the KGB and the World " by Christopher Andrew and Vasili Mitrokhin. There are two parts, this is the second part. Further have a look at the vid of the people of East Berlin when the wall fell, the same as being liberated from the Nazi's.

approximately 58000 americans died in vietnam.. 1.5 million vietnamese soldiers and over 3 million civilians were killed.. how would you feel if this was on US soil and the numbers were reversed.. think about that before you praise americas involvement...
rufusbone 2 years ago
You probably need to ask the French about the 50,000 Americans that died to get the Germans out. As I recall we were asked in by the South Vietnamese government. Your statement is rather naive, I thought the Vietnamese were fighting for their independance and asked us for help? Your right we wouldnt like it, but then it has never happened and we surely wouldn't ask someone else to save our country and if we did we should would be grateful.

Wolfie

Where did the NVA and VC get their M79s from? Take 'em off KIA's?
nomofica0 3 years ago
Yes, and probably from the ARVN's who would get them from us and sell them to the VC. I would say that was greater than battle field recoveries. Sad, but true. Wolfie

That would be a major problem, having NVA/VC "spies" enlisted in the ARVN.
Well, they must have been a very tough enemy.

Wolfie
