You chose to ignore my obvious point--just because others have touched the walls doesn't mean you need to. Look at the Description de l'Egypt--most temples were buried in sand (thus, protected) until very recently. More tourists visit the monuments every day now than did in the last several centuries; if they all follow your example, these treasures won't last millennia more. You are not worth my effort. In the future, respect the monuments you visit. It's not all about you. Be well.
I know your point. But you've admitted you don't even know where we were filming. Most was actually done in fake areas anyway. Where are the original works in Abydos? On the ceiling? You over react without knowing the details. Do you always jump to conclusions? Must make you a great Egyptologist. And while you're on your high horse let me ask how much damage has been done by your profession historically? How many priceless artifacts have been looted by you guys?
As for buried temples. Do we get into most of those. Napoleon's army graffitied on the Dendara temple while it was buried?? The early Christians defaced Edsa and so many other temples while they were buried??? Abu Simbel has moved. How original is it that? Sure, original stones but don't tell me they haven't been touched and then touched up. The fault is the Egyptian government for not protecting these resources. People will be people and need to be protected from themselves.
And by your logic, you could also fondle just about any woman you see as they have likely been fondled before and you would be doing minimal damage to the 'structure'. Many people litter--does that mean it is just fine for you to continue the trend? Way to be a sheep.
It seems you have been in Egypt too long. Of course that's the Egyptian mentality of respecting women to which for all I know you've bought into over there. You analogy is so poor that it's not worth destroying but if you think of women as a structure then just stay out there in the desert... Did I litter, literally or figuratively? Do you know anything about what I was doing in Egypt or who I am? I think not so you shouldn't flaunt your ignorance.
Had you filmed in Vegas or Disney, we wouldn't be having this conversation. The Seti temple has ORIGINAL paint--this is WHY it is so precious to us (and anyone else who cares about history). You were at Dendera also, running up the stairs; but I don't know what other sites you fondled; the sound quality was so bad I couldn't watch very much. The oils on your skin are what darkens the stone--thanks for adding to the problem. You have no idea what it takes to be an Egyptologist.
People have been touching the walls of these temples for hundreds of years or did you not notice that they are already shiny or defaced? We didn't damage anything original or already undamaged so get a grip people.
It seems that neither intelligence or a sense of humour is required to become an Egyptologist.
1. I am not a travel company nor do I say I am so that's just a stupid comment.
2. Most scenes are not from the actual Abydos temple.
3. Most tourist temples in Egypt are no longer 3000 years old. Have you ever noticed that the wall have mostly been redone and poorly at that. You can see better quality Egyptian stuff in Las Vegas or Disneyland for all the effort Egypt puts into maintainance.
As someone who studied this temple professionally, I can't imagine what untold damage these people are doing tothe monument. To even video such stuff as "entertainment" is disgusting, and obvious the actors are merely putting of an act. It's simple to navigate inside the temple (there are at least 3-4 exits, and that's apparent from the doorways' lighting). No horror there.
I am appalled that any travel company would present this video as an incentive to join their travel group. Awful!!
Not sure what makes you think it is okay to run your hands along every bit of 3000 year old relief you find, but I hope you are aware that this stupid little stunt caused irreparable damage to these ancient temples--sometimes even the faintest touch can destroy relief and you all treated these amazing structures like your playground. What an incredibly selfish, childish thing to do! As an Egyptologist, all I can say is stay the hell away from historical treasures if this is how you treat them!
I wuz wondering how you were allowed to run around and go into little crevices! and i never noticed your charaters different looks i was to busy looking at the heiroglyphs
