  • he's a handsome lil man

  • He reads better than many adults. I never knew such a condition existed. Thank you for posting.

  • raar,ik,las,ook,vroeg,ik,was,hyper,ik,was,als,meisje,4,bang,voor,mannen,maybe,ik,zag,dad,weinig,lag,x,buurjongen,te,zonnen,die,riep,my,ik,liep,weg,ik,was,maybe,leuk,kid,mam,zei,jy,kent,hem,ik,was,bang,voor,hem,ik,vertrouwde,hem,niet,weet,ik,nog

  • Ha! You have "no" on the synthesizer. Good idea--I'm assuming he probably will not listen to an adult saying "no don't touch it" but will immediately focus on the letters and associate them to the proper action :)Thanks for sharing. This kid is so freakin adorable. :D

  • it seems to me that he can read AND comprehend the words he saying because in some words, such as "clap" he clapped. that is very good!

  • have you ever tried changing the order of the words to see if he hasn't just memorized the order?

  • Oh my god! your child is a paraplegic!

  • What a wonderfull idea, Kevin do you think you can send me that program you design_ i will translate to spanish for my kid !!!!!

    Armandodv67 at gmail.com

  • I love the "no" sign on the keyboard !

  • im not trying to be a jerk or anything but i see absolutely nothing wrong with your child in this vid. He's not even 3 and he's reading big words,he's attentive, full of energy.....so he doesnt say words right he's not even 3 give him a chance to grow

  • @snowpanth I agree. Too quick to label these days.My daughter was diagnosed with autism because she learned to speak by repeating cartoons. She's 10 now and is perfectly fine although the "experts" won't admit their mistake.

  • i don't see any difference between Hyperlexia and aspergers. just 2 names for one thing.

  • smart lil kid, i hope he does well with social situations and everything else as he gets older too.

  • im happy that Hyperlexia is now being recognised but ive had it for 20 years... the shit ive had to go through... but enough of me whining because u dont need to hear that. I want people to know what Hyperlexia really is, i know what it is. Its not just good reading skills, the social difficulties especially throught my teenage years were so hard, it was hell for me. I still find it so hard to make friends... and ive never had a girlfriend despite my good looks. Luckily its bein seen earlier now

  • that is aspergers syndrome

  • no its not, Hyperlexia is very close to Aspergers but its not considered as that.

  • For me its being social... its so dam hard you wouldnt understand what its like... think of the worst uncomfortable feeling you've ever had and thats how i get when i have to talk to people, one on one i can talk fine but if im told to talk infront of a class or to 3 people or whatever i cannot do it. I get nervous, upset, very VERY frustrated which turns into anger, i often find that, everyday i could break someones nose if they look at me in a funny way... because of the frustration i feel.

  • can Hyperlexia be diagnosed at a much older age, like 17?

  • i was diagnosed when i was 17 with it, im 20 now... all my life ive had to struggle with it without any help from anyone. I was bullied because i couldnt talk to people like i wanted too... it is sad and, as silly as this may sound, i do feel sorry for myself. I've been through a lot. Because i was diagnosed late, its even worse for me. This guy is lucky that hes been diagnosed at a young age. I think in order to help myself, i must learn EVERY word and what the definition of that word is.

  • You have such a beautiful child ! God bless him !

  • Very interesting. I really appreciate the info you wrote.

  • He can read them words really well, pronounce them really well but watch when he gets older he wont know what any of the words actually mean. When i read a book i have to read very slowly to understand what im reading, its very difficult, its like its going in one ear and straight out the other side. To make it easier for this boy i would make someone sit by him in class and tell him what each word means, and make sure he gets it. As for communication... its a real bitch.

  • This may help him overall though. My son struggles to read even in a grade below the grade he is in. I wish I knew earlier that he could be AS because I probably would do the same thing, only using flash cards. I think his parents are doing a great job with him. =)

  • I love this little boy. He is so cute. I wish him luck. I hope he is getting better! Thanks for sharing. ^_^

  • This is so wondeful! I help an autistic child at a local preschool and we also place "NO" cards on doorknobs, vents, light switches. She understands well! lol

Well, I hope you and your family the very best. And when he grows up, he'll adore you both for capturing all these moments.

  • Good luck with your son.

  • I am sorry you have to go through that Brady2k8. I wish you the best.

  • Thank you, i was once like this... but for me it got worse as i began my teenage years, much worse and because not a lot of people understand Hyperlexia, they think its just about reading really well etc. its not and no psychologist can tell some one with Hyperlexia about their problems better than another person thats experienced them problems first hand. Its hard to make friends, its hard to talk, its hard to be social... stupid people think their childs are geniuses because they can read well

  • Not even the psychologists understand Hyperlexia more than me, i have it so i know more then they know about it. Kevin will want to play on his own, he'll suffer from stress in teenage years due to the pressure put on him by society and having to communicate to make friends, to you lot thats easy to him and me, it is very hard indeed, dont ask me why its too much to explain. Think of someone holding their hand over your mouth and no matter what you do you cant move it and talk, its frustrating.

  • I have had this for 19 years, i've been to thousands of checks by psychologists and all that bs, and tey still just leave me to deal with it on my own. If anyone wants to talk about this, i am the person you should ask. I am very rare to have this at my age and it is Hyperlexia i have i can assure you. I can read better than anyone i know, but that is NOTHING its no good when compared with communication and the struggle i have every day. None of you understand this. NONE OF YOU.

  • You lot really make me laugh. You think this is good? to have Hyperlexia? you obviously dont know much about it, its not only observed in children. Im 19 and i have it. And i'll tell you all, it is fucking HARD. I feel sorry for this young boy, no one will ever know what it feels like to have this, and i have suffered with it for 19 years and you lot think its a "gift" just because he reads well? watch when he hits teenage years, then the problems start. Kevin, im sorry m8.

  • I would love to get a copy of the vocabulary video as well! My son would love it. It is amazing when I think he is only three and wants to read a book sight unseen to me and gets all of the words right. Absolutely amazing. Has anyone talked about what else to do to help build up the comprehension piece? That is my worry after the decoding is the actual understanding.

  • Excellent boy n thumb up to mummy for the great job

  • Wow, reminds me of my lil guy. Our kids are amazing and the BEST teachers. What a Q-T you have there!

    ~Tina

  • Thanks!

  • Since he was 18 months.

  • When did your son start distinguishing letters?

  • I made it on my computer...

I can send it to you, just give me your email address.

  • Where can i get a copy of that vocabulary video?

  • Oh yes! Great job, Mom and Dad! I have twins on the spectrum who both decoded words early, too. Keep those books and videos in his hands. Now, at age 13, my boys are very conversant. Of course, they still have autism, but they can read books and signs and will be able to function in this world.

  • Uol! Ele está lendo TUDO!

    Meu amoroso Kevin! Incriiiiivel :0)

  • bright kid, cute video; it is in the posautive youtube group and its sense subgroup, thank you!

  • I love this .. my son is also hyperlexic. He has tons of sight words also. Along with numbers and much more. It is nice to see other children who are so gifted also. Is your son on the spectrum? Mine is. I have a question for you ... where ndid you get this program with just the words?

  • man that is sooooo good!!!!!!!! i just got the first baby bumblebee vid about a week ago. hope to see good things

  • Did he learn this just from you reading to him or some other way? My son is 29 months and is yet to say one single word let alone read them. Kevin is one clever little lad.

  • Sure they are amazing!

    Thanks Christschool!

  • Cute. I have one coming out with junior at 36 months reading. Our kids are amazing.

  • Correction, 42 months old (3.5)

  • He is funny and he likes to show that really knows the words.

    Thanks for comments.
